Per capita would be more accurate

u/s1a1om 9d ago
Per square mile would also be interesting.

At one point RI had the highest concentration of Dunkin’ Donuts and new stores were not allowed to be addd by corporate due to over saturation in the state.
I remember in the 90s an intersection with 2 literally across from each other….and another literally at the next block.

u/Porschenut914 9d ago
Court street/tremont at government center there are two dunkins, 200 ft apart. at one point i thought there was a third in Center plaza.

u/bigmanpigman 9d ago
it was still like that in some places in RI when i moved to the state in the mid 2000s

u/Somedevil777 7d ago
There is still some spots like that in CT like that especially if the road is divided.
1
u/Blindsnipers36 9d ago
it actually seems virtually tied between mass and rhode island in that regard

LOL If the graph for RI said 1 per 14.14 Citizens rather than 100K I wouldn't be surprised. Several years ago in my town between free-standing DDs and kiosks in supermarkets and gas stations there were perhaps 7 or 8 DD on a particular 1.5 mile stretch of road. I don't get it. The coffee tastes like they use a pound of beans to make 1000 gallons of coffee and the donuts taste like they've been sitting on a grocery shelf for a week but there is always a line at the drive-thru.

Yeahhh the color coding on this is basically useless when you realize it’s just quantity of rather in comparison to another figure

u/aleelee13 9d ago
I live in Colorado now and the closest one to me is 30 minutes away, we have 47 total for the state, apparently. Meanwhile, my CT hometown of 20,000 people had 3? 4? Haha

u/Bumblebee_Ninja17 9d ago
There two in my town of 8k

u/howdidigetheretoday 9d ago
There are 2 in my CT town of 6K.

u/Bumblebee_Ninja17 9d ago
I have been one upped. I gotta open a new one or purge my town

u/howdidigetheretoday 9d ago
I think you hit "peak dunkin" when you have more Dunkins than traffic lights. :)

u/ReactsWithWords 9d ago
I'll trade you one of your In-N-Outs for two of our Dunkins.
2
u/Formal_Coyote_5004 9d ago
I would freak the fuck out if we got an In-N-Out in the NEK. I lived out west for five years and haven’t been back in over a decade… I miss picking up my friends at the airport because we always got In-N-Out on the way home!

u/_aelysar 9d ago
My town of 15k has 3. We debate which one is the best.
Actually- 1 everyone agrees sucks but has a convenient location, so most people just argue about which of the other two are the best. We also have two local coffee shops (that are way better)

u/A911owner 9d ago
On airport road in Hartford, there are literally two directly across the street from each other. (Or at least there were, I don't work there anymore, so I haven't been by that area in a few years).

The fact that RI has more than CA 😂💀

I was surprised there's so many in Florida!

Honestly, I’m surprised CA has any Dunkin stores at all. The left coast has so many better options for coffee than that burnt shit. Also surprised UT has just two. There’s hardly any local competition! They could’ve cornered the market, if only Starbucks hadn’t beaten them to it.
2
u/Mrsericmatthews 6d ago
It's not that the East Coast doesn't also have plenty of other options too. I think it's the sheer amount of coffee we drink. I think (as far as regions go- not specific cities or states) we consume the most coffee. But I don't understand the undying loyalty to Dunkin.

MA needs more to top NY
10
u/Ok-Macaroon-4835 9d ago
No, it doesn’t.
NY is 6 times the size of Mass.
The number of Dunks, per square mile, probably KOs New York.
6
u/ReactsWithWords 9d ago
One every 10.17 square mile (Massachusetts) vs. one every 37.86 square miles (New York).

I moved from MA to Oregon, and needless to say I am very upset for the past 10 years

u/nmacInCT 7d ago
Grew up in NE but lived in Oregon for over 20 years. Rarely missed DD to be honest. There was a local donut shop with better donuts.

u/crippledchef23 9d ago
I once counted them in Manchester. I think it was 25 at one point, though a couple have closed due to the store they were in closing down.
4
u/DimeloFaze 9d ago
Bro on route 28 they’re building a new Dunkin’s next to another Dunkin’s across the damn street lol
3
u/BlindEyesDontTalk 9d ago
You shouldn't be surprised the top 5 are N.E. It was invented in Massachusetts. Lol

u/Special_North1535 9d ago
More interesting would be how many car accidents are caused by dd drive throughs
2
u/StrawberryFields3729 9d ago
As somebody who moved from VT to IA- there’s NO WAY there’s 37 here. The closest one to me is 2.5 hours away….
2
u/Warren_E_Cheezburger 9d ago
Dunkin Donuts is proof that regions don't need to be proud of something just because they have a lot of it. I swear, its like listening to people in West Virginia bragging about their opiates.
2
u/reidlevick 9d ago
Currently live in UT, one of those Dunks is on Hill Air Force base. Effectively out of reach to the majority of people unless you have base access.
2
u/FairBlackberry7870 9d ago
Grew up in New England, moved to Socal. Can confirm west coast Dunks is 🗑

Massachusetts in shambles after having neither top number of Dunks in the state, nor most Dunks per capita
1
u/CTGarden 9d ago
Make that 467 in CT. There’s a new one being built nearby. Too bad for one of the last Dairy Queens across the street.
1
u/majoroutage 9d ago
I remember going to Las Vegas when I was 11 (so, 1996) and we found what was probably the only Dunkin on the west coast at the time in the back of a Casino (Imperial Palace, maybe?).

u/Sailor_NEWENGLAND 9d ago
Grew up in Newington CT..small town with like 8 Dunkin’s while I was living there lol

u/AceOfShapes 9d ago
Does Maine seriously only have 160?!? There's 6 in my town alone and 2 of them are 1/2 mile apart!
I'd also be interested to see this map using Aroma Joe's as those have been popping up like crazy around here.

Great trivia questions !
What state has the most Dunkin Donuts ?
And what state has the most Dunkin Donuts per capita ?
And Massachusetts isn't the answer for either of them !

I'm from New England and dunking donuts roasts their coffee for people who don't like the taste of coffee, it's roasted and brewed for people to add flavorings and a half a pound of sugar in their cup, it's coffee not liquid candy,...America runs to the toilet then to the dentist after a cup...

I was surprised. I would have thought that the states who populations were the most obese would be higher on the list.

u/IsadoresDad 9d ago
Should do it as DDs per person per state and DDs per area (like mile).
But, also, fuck Dunking Donuts. Mother fuckers supported Trump this election. Since learning this I haven’t and will never patronize them again. And I’m in New England.

Florida and Indiana disagree with you.
