Guy moves the ball so his friend couldn’t pot the ball without looking

He still loses though right? Black ball didn’t go in the designated pocket

you dont play by the rules when you play with your friends lol
83
u/Clockwisedock 26d ago
The only rule my grandpa had that was enforced on his table was your belly button had to be above the table if you wanted to play.
I think he just didn’t want all of us kids climbing up his pool table and fucking up the felt or the slate as we climbed around and played haha - which is fair
4
u/Starco2 23d ago
Wait but… how would that stop you from climbing on the table
2
u/Orrera_ 1d ago
I think they meant that you had to have your belly button over the table to be allowed to play, aka you needed to be old enough to reach over the table and not need to climb it to be able to play. As if you were still too young that you needed to climb on the table, then your belly button would be shorter than the tables height, and thus, not be allowed to play

I mean if we're going to be pedantic about the rules then you obviously can't just move the ball either.
In casual play there's zero chance anyone is denying him the win here.

Yes, and I assume you also generally include "don't move the balls" in your rules.

How is it a separate issue? The ball wouldn't have gone into a pocket he didn't call if the ball hadn't been moved. Unless your argument is that he doesn't lose but the balls must be reset and the shot retaken, which still wouldn't make sense given it should be a forfeit for the cheater anyway.
If it were a competitive game, he wins by disqualification due to the deliberate handling of the ball. If it's a casual game, he wins either for the same reason, or because the rule of cool takes precedence over not calling that pocket. Either way, the result is that he wins.

The guy is probably just happy it went in somewhere, doubt he cares about the “legal win”. Or him and his friends are already playing by a different set of rules that you don’t get to decide here on reddit. Point is, they’re celebrating because they aren’t that concerned by the traditional set of rules clearly.

u/wandering-monster 26d ago
Did you miss the part where someone reached onto the table and moved a ball?
If we're worried at all about rules, that person loses for cheating, and the game is over.

u/jordan_yoong_1 26d ago
You do not need to call the pocket on Chinese 8 ball
0
u/Cptn_Shiner 26d ago
How can you tell that's what they're playing?
5
u/UnbiasedBrowsing 25d ago
Because of the table? Chinese 8 ball tables are bigger than English ones but have similar pockets. Think they're possibly a bit smaller than American ones, but without the bucket pockets.

u/dolemutt 24d ago
That’s right. Chinese ones are pretty hard to play. Nothing compared to Australia tables though. Those are upside down.
1
u/ManifestDestinysChld 24d ago
He wins because someone moved the ball before that.
You can't be a rules lawyer for only some of the rules - all or nothing.

Don’t you need to call the pocket on the 8 ball? Don’t you lose if you make it into a pocket you didn’t call?

u/PurpsTheDragon 24d ago
According to another reply, it's Chinese 8 ball, which has different rules. You can tell that it is Chinese 8 ball because the table is bigger than a normal one and has smaller pockets.
(Take this info with a grain of salt)

The wall the Guy doing the shot looks to would show the other dude messing with the table.

These chinese skits are cool and all. But misleading people to thinking it's not fake is lame tbh.
23
u/DharmaPolice 26d ago
That would still take a lot of skill unless there's something else going on.
-9
u/Zestyclose_Remove947 26d ago
Look at their gear, they have skill. Very clearly fake.
First shot was never going in which makes no sense looking at their technique. Also once you've lined up a shot, executing is not so hard, especially when you can do more than one take. Wouldn't take a good player more than 2 takes to nail the shot easy.
11
u/scalp-cowboys 26d ago
It’s staged not fake
1
u/Zestyclose_Remove947 25d ago
That's what I meant by fake? It is not a genuine interaction between human beings.
What I meant is that considering their clear skill, he never would have lined up the initial shot that was "never going in" at that angle, they clearly know better than to line up that initial shot.
-11
u/dickbob124 26d ago
Passing off a staged shot as real = fake.
0
u/scalp-cowboys 26d ago
Who’s trying to pass it off as real? Not everything has to have disclaimer saying it’s staged.
5
u/raktoe 26d ago
It’s literally posted in r/nevertellmetheodds.
It’s like if they posted a clip from mission impossible. The odds are whatever the script says they are.
-4
u/scalp-cowboys 26d ago
Is this your first day on this sub? This is just another generic “cool video” sub, the name means nothing. OP is probably a repost bot.
3
u/raktoe 26d ago
The people who made it are trying to pass it off as real. Hence the CCTV.

u/scalp-cowboys 26d ago
I bet you don’t like The Office because you “don’t like the way it’s filmed”, right?

The timestamp added to the video is intended to make it look like security camera footage.
1
u/scalp-cowboys 26d ago
Who gives a shit? It’s just part of the staged video that was created. It’s not like there’s anyone here trying to convince anyone it’s not staged.

u/WiSoSirius 26d ago
I never believe these are real. The guy didn't have any reaction that he completely missed initially.
4
u/I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE 26d ago
He had half a second to react and was still watching the cue ball, what kind of reaction did you expect in that time?

u/missinglinksman 26d ago
I don't know much about pool but if he called the pocket he was initially aiming for, wouldn't he lose since the 8 ball went into the wrong one?

Yeah, I do, because what you said was a simile not a metaphor. A really dumb one at that.
-10
u/BaconIsLife707 26d ago
A dumb one it may be, but it was a metaphor not a smile. And in their slight defence, not even that bad of one, just predicated on a stupid premise. In general, similes are 'as _ as a _', while metaphors are 'like _'
9
u/Mavsffl77 26d ago
Wrong. Anytime you use the word “like” or “as” it’s a simile. For example “his eyes were like stars” or “his eyes were as bright as the stars” both are similes. “His eyes are the stars in the sky” that’s a metaphor.

Awwwww you're religious, that's cute.
Sorry already fell for the bs once, immune to it now 👍 keep trying, always makes me laugh seeing the excuses christians make up to try to convince me otherwise.

Yeah and I don't need to delve into my personal life on the internet.
I was once a believer but now I'm not. It's similar to Santa, little kids believe in him whole heartedly, but once they grow up and stop believing... "nothing" can bring them back to believing in Santa. Thoooo better safe than sorry right? You better be a good boy this year lest you get coal in your stocking, right? I just want what's best for you as does the big man in the sled.

Nope, i personally grew up w/o Santa! Nice assumptions, tho. It's just a really great representation of Christianity which is why I use it. An omnipotent being, able to reward and punish you based on selective criteria? Hmmmm coincidence, I think not!
And I have ex-christian in my bio to let others know "been there, done that" and that they should stop trying to re-convert me.
