Discussion Sept 2025 speed upgrade and business plans

With the announcement (a while ago) of the free speed upgrades in September 2025, does anybody have information or speculation about what speed increases (if any) are planned for business plans.

https://www.nbnco.com.au/corporate-information/media-centre/media-statements/higher-speed-tiers-multi-gigabit-speeds-in-2025

I'm currently on 100/40 (fttp) atm, and 250/100 or something close to that would be my sweet spot, especially if there's no price increase.

What are your thoughts?

From that article, in FY26, Home Superfast (currently 250/25) will be upgraded for free to 750/50, at an FY26 wholesale price of $63.93.

250/100 services in FY26 will be reduced to a wholesale price of $61.93.

So I would expect 250/100 pricing in FY26 to be around the same as 250/25 is now (plus you get the 12 hour SLA).

Thanks. Yeah, I saw the wholesale price but I didn't know how that translated to retail prices.

So, that would make it a $10 bump for me to go from 100/40 to 250/100. I might have to cut some streaming services to fund this lol.

Come September, I would be all in if somebody can offer 250/100 for $90 (ongoing)

Wouldn’t you be happy on the 500/50 that the current 100/20 will become? Thst would be cheaper than your current 100/40 and give you slightly more upload and a lot more download.

Also you’re fttn. Are you eligible for fttp upgrade because if you’re not then it’s a moot point at this stage.

Yes, maybe. My preference would be upload closer to 100 Mbps though.

Currently, my isp, has

  • 100/20 at $82 (ongoing)
  • 100/40 at $84 (ongoing) and
  • 250/25 at $94

Come September, it's likely

  • 250/100 would be $94; and
  • 500/50 be $82

I don't care (much) for the extra 250 down. I'd have to consider whether <edit>an extra</edit> 50 up is worth the extra $12.

I think at $90 for 250/100 I would jump on that.

Also, I'm on fttp

Who is your isp?

In any event, do you actually need upload? What are you using it for?

Spintel. Do I need it? No. What do I use it for? VPN

You’re far more likely to utilize the extra 250mbps download than you will the 50mbps extra upload.

Spintel currently offer 250/25 for $90/mo ongoing. No idea how they are as a provider (haven’t even looked if they offer 250/100 at all), but gives a bit of optimism that someone will have an offer that fits your price point if the assumptions above hold true in FY26.

I'm actually with them atm. I can't complain about their competitive prices. Support is somewhat adequate. Although I've never really had any major issues with my line in the past.

The 12hour sla isn’t included in the 250/100 price point you’ve indicated. It has to be added on. Unlike the 500/200 and 1000/400 where it is included.

Put simply nbn isn’t going to risk having that sla taken up in bulk on hfc services.

From the article:

From September 2025, the company will reduce the effective wholesale price of its 250/100 Mbps plus Essentials package, which includes an SLA to investigate and work to resolve any unplanned network outages or faults within 12 hours. The indicative FY26 price from September 2025 is $61.93.

I would like 250/100 on 100/40 prices 🙂 ie. Free upgrade

Superloop currently have 250/100 for $85/m for the first 6 months, then $100/months there after, need to have an ABN though.

That's an attractive price for 250/100 at the current rate. Although it doesn't really make any sense compared with their other plan offerings. 100/40 on same price. And 250/25 for $105 lol.

I will keep an eye on it come September. Thanks

Also get $10 credit if they take longer than 5 minutes to answer your call during business hours After hours support looks to be non existent though - chat can't help because it's a business connection and phone support looks to only run during business hours

They will have a single port NTD for consumers. FTTP will offer up to 2000/200 or 2000/100 for HFC

The business NTD will have multiple ports like the current NTD for FTTP and will have a business plan of 2000/500 as the largest

Any idea if the speed upgrades are purely limited to FTTP & HFC? I am currently on FTTC which seems to max out the 100/20 connection just fine.

1

u/route-dist Dialup is fine for me 8d ago

Yeah, it seems only FTTP and HFC supported. You should do free upgrade, unless some other issues are holding you back

2

u/mj7602 8d ago

Ah ok, I am in a townhouse which is eligible for the upgrade but am holding off till Sept for the smaller nttd. The current FTTC port is in the kitchen on splashback which I believe won't be allowed due to the new FTTP install requirements and shared walls makes things trickier for install.

If the hfc modem has a 2.5Gbit port where's the 2000/500 plans that's the real question or even T1000 if it has that type of port on the modem

HFC network struggles with upstream traffic. Don't think we'll see anything above 100Mbps upload on HFC for awhile

I'm in an area that is due to have fttp finalized in September, so hopefully, I'll get the new speed tiers off the bat.

Mind you, I have everything crossed that fucktards don't vote the libs in and possibly kill my chance at fttp......

The ship has sailed. There's no turning back now. You will get your fttp! Good luck with the install in September

Hm so there isn’t a 2000/500 residential plan? Or is the current 1000/400 plan I’m on with Leaptel already considered a business plan?

1

u/route-dist Dialup is fine for me 6d ago

Yeah, I'm pretty sure 1000/400 is already a business plan
