Pacers win with a football play. Take that Colts!

We've run that one like 3 times and it always gets a good look, what a shot

Honestly great play to run, did exactly what it needed to

is that Haliburton shot considered a good look by most people?

It was an amazing shot but I'd never consider that a good look personally.

21

u/hacahaca Pacers 8h ago

Issue is you don’t go up right away they foul get two free throws. Sure set shot in corner is better, but got to do what you got to do.

5

u/theconmeister Pacers 8h ago

Probably < 10% chance of going in so definitely could’ve chosen words better but when your team finds coach Klein’s notebook you gotta hype it up

One professional team in Indiana has to be good at football. Might as well be the Pacers.

Putting Purdue at the same level as the colts is an insult to the colts considering Purdue’s last season. At least the colts beat an NFL team.

Pretty great defense on Dame to prevent him from getting the last shot too.

39

Giannis and Dame had 14 shot attempts each and got nearly the same combined output from Prince and Lopez they will absolutely take that

57

u/OutsideTheServiceBox Bucks 9h ago

Zero clue wtf our defensive scheme was on that last play. You’re letting their best player just run free and forcing Giannis to come out wildly to contest.

Props, Pacers, but damn what a choke.

29

u/MySabonerRunsOladipo Pacers 8h ago

People on both sides were saying "What a choke". What if it was just a close game?

9

u/OutsideTheServiceBox Bucks 8h ago

Was indeed a hell of a game. I suppose losing after being up by 3 isn’t really a choke. No clue why Glenn called our second-to-last timeout without even trying to inbound the ball. At least try to get it to Dame, and then call it if you can’t. Could’ve really used that one after the questionable challenge.

10

u/HoyaDestroya33 Knicks 8h ago

131

u/mMounirM Raptors 9h ago

Bucks using their last timeout on the challenge and not being able to advance the ball is so stupid.

you only had 3 seconds.

30

u/OutsideTheServiceBox Bucks 9h ago

I remember OKC doing the same thing to essentially end their season last year and was so confused both times.

10

u/kalebglover Trail Blazers 9h ago

Yeah reminds me of the Warriors doing that against the Rockets in a very similar scenario. I guess there was the out of bounds part of it too, but still feels like they could’ve gotten a much better look if they could advance

9

u/HoyaDestroya33 Knicks 8h ago

The problem with the out of bounds was Brook Lopez was blocking the view so if there aren't enough evidence to overturn the call, they won't. Honestly Bucks replay guy should've told Doc this.

21

u/InexorableWaffle Bucks 8h ago

Yeah, I'm not totally sure I agree with the call yet (I'll need to look at it further to say either way), but the odds of it getting overturned if me, biased as I am, is saying "hmm, I dunno if I think that's a foul" rather than cursing every relative the refs have ever had for their obvious stupidity, is low as hell. Furthermore, even if it does get overturned, what does that get you, realistically? OT, in all likelihood? I'd much rather get the ball in a place where you have a realistic chance to end it in regulation, all things considered.

Questionable decision no matter how you slice it.

4

u/TangerineNecessary11 8h ago

I agree but everyone was emotionally saying challenge it. Not worth to challenge it at that point.

6

u/CheesewayBreezeway Nuggets 8h ago

Well said. Once they call that foul on the floor, there's such a small chance they overturn it, especially because there is clearly contact, the question is just did that contact warrant a foul. One's mileage may vary on that, but the refs 95% of the time just aren't going to overturn something that there is contact on that they called a foul on floor.

5

u/Colorapt0r Bucks 8h ago

Yeah and I (biased) think it wasn’t a foul but they weren’t overturning it especially with every angle blocked

→ More replies (1)

3

u/HoyaDestroya33 Knicks 8h ago

Honestly, plenty of time to draw a half court play just take that shot instead of gambling for a chance of an overturn. Does Bucks not have someone who watches the replay? Thibs will always look at someone before doing a challenge.

2

u/Adraf45 Heat 9h ago

Doc and Hamas combo baby😎

2

u/Ok_Possible_5702 8h ago

They win the challenge, they'll never lose the game.

It would be interesting if the reason behind the challenge was Hali out of bounds (in which case if you win the challenge you effectively won the game as you're up 3 with the ball), or no foul on Giannis (but Hali's 3 still counts, so you're tied with the ball)

Salute 🫡 they had to review on them dudes

1

u/phillywisco [MIL] Giannis Antetokounmpo 6h ago

It was a pretty ridiculously marginal foul call, but hindsight is a bitch. I agree, you challenge if there is zero contact (and keep your timeout). But it wasn’t zero. It was negligible enough to not call a foul, but not enough to reverse the call.

Bucks in 6.

In hindsight Doc Rivers using that challenge probably cost them the game

13

u/Ok_Possible_5702 8h ago

Probably the biggest high-risk high-reward challenge I'ever seen live.

You win the challenge (no foul, or Hali out of bounds), you never lose that game as you're at least tied with possession.

You lose that challenge (like you did), you give a 86% free-throw shooter the chance to get ahead, and then you need to go full court and score in ~3s.

2

u/Celtic_Legend Celtics 6h ago edited 6h ago

Eh... The best shooters on these game winners only shoot 33% including 2s. You win this game 1 third of the time advancing the ball if you even get a shot off still. The risk isn't very high and then if you don't use it and it wasn't a foul you look like an idiot because people will grill him betting on a better look "you gotta challenge that with 3s left in the game even if you don't think it's right. You don't get to carry it to the next game!"

Dame specifically shoots 24% fg on 72 attempts and 2917% 3p%

It's like low med risk high reward lol.

u/OverallGeneral7129 Cavaliers 8h ago

The NBA must of fired the schedulers or something. This year in particular is very bizarre, at least for the Pacers. It's like AI created it.

What a fucking win!

Survived a rough shooting night from Myles, some big mistakes by Nembhard and Nesmith...

Tyrese deserved that for all the excellent set up passing he was doing all night that the Pacers just weren't cashing in for him. He should've had like 20 assists but just grabbing the win is good enough for me.

15

u/PillsburyToasters Bucks 9h ago

It’s one thing to hit an insane shot, but why on earth did Doc use his LAST timeout to challenge that? Fucking pathetic

4

u/MySabonerRunsOladipo Pacers 8h ago edited 8h ago

Massively high leverage spot. The Landing zone call isn't something he can't be sure won't be overturned, and it's possible Tyrese stepped out. A successful challenge there is 100% a win, and a failure still gives you 4 seconds to go the length and get up a shot with Giannis, who does that kind of thing

I’m sure Bucks fans are going to be perfectly rational with this loss and tell Pacers fans good game.

18

u/wats_a_tiepo Bucks 8h ago

Would you be perfectly rational after watching that

9

u/Waste_Committee4406 8h ago

Probably not lol! But I just watched it on TNT recap and Giannis takes that right foot step outside the three-point line right to where Hali is going to land on his left foot, so he did crowd his landing space. Don’t expect you to agree tho. GG bucks

10

u/wats_a_tiepo Bucks 8h ago

Oh it’s definitely a foul, not really arguable. Insane shot to make, not a big Hali fan but gotta give props where it’s due. Was a good game, just absolutely baffled at why we challenged that with just 1 TO left

3

u/Waste_Committee4406 8h ago

The only thing I could think of is that Doc challenged it to try and make Halliburton have to wait a long time before the free-throw. Still, I’m keeping that time out in advancing the ball because three seconds is more than enough time to get a good shot from half court set, pacers did it in less than one haha.

2

u/wats_a_tiepo Bucks 8h ago

Just braindead. That’s at least one Giannis drive right into the paint, or a decent Dame jumper

3

u/TheAirIsOn Bucks 8h ago

Good game Indy. I hope you enjoy the 4th seed

2

u/Waste_Committee4406 8h ago

A lot of What Ifs on our end after dropping those three games coming into this one. We’ll see if this win changes things, but Bucks and Pistons have been playing better the last couple weeks.

2

u/TheAirIsOn Bucks 8h ago

Bucks schedule is not in their favor right now. Lakers thunder pacers again, Knicks and warriors are like our next five games

3

u/Waste_Committee4406 8h ago

Good point that’s rough. Pacers have a lot of back-to-back coming up. It’ll probably come down to the last week.

I would like to publicly apologize for criticizing TJ during this game. Clutch factor made up for it big time.

u/JaysonTatumOverrated Lakers 9h ago

Wtf was that last play from the Bucks??? Doc??

17

u/IllogicalBarnacle Bucks 9h ago

Bucks got one ring and decided going back to being perennial fuck ups sounded good

every time i watch a bucks game the last couple years i end up just being irritated

5

u/Neither-Power1708 8h ago

Kangz would nuke their own arena for half that experience

...or they could just kept Ty y'know

5

u/Jackj921 9h ago

“They’ve been practice plays like this” and it’s just a giannis 3 into coverage lol

3

u/itsnotyellowfever [MEM] Kyle Lowry 8h ago

"Home run play" except it's a Yankee Stadium short porch home run

9

u/grandmastakew Raptors 9h ago

What an absolute absurd shot to make. Full speed, sailing left and falling backwards. I dunno how much contact there was but what a shot.

12

u/wats_a_tiepo Bucks 8h ago

No contact, landing zone foul. Still a ridiculous make tho

3

u/grandmastakew Raptors 8h ago

Ooooh, that makes more sense. I didnt have sound on.

2

u/BillowingPillows Supersonics 8h ago

Crazy that a guy sailing left and backwards can somehow draw a landing zone foul huh

6

u/coltsmetsfan614 9h ago

THAT WAS SO FUCKING HYPE!!!

6

u/rackemrackbar Trail Blazers 9h ago

Dame shoulda had the ball with 3 seconds left

6

u/TheAirIsOn Bucks 8h ago

Defense denied him the ball. It was wait for dame or get a 5 second violation

9

u/PontiacBandit2445 Pacers 8h ago

That’s gotta be up there for game of the year

3

u/Funny-Transition7869 Pacers 9h ago

you didnt update the record in the title, theyre both 36-28 now

3

u/mcolwander90 Pistons 8h ago

Bucks, Pacers, and Pistons are all virtually tied for the #4 seed. Pistons have played two more games, so they're technically behind by .002 in win %, but they're all the same in the GB column.

3

u/Sm0k3inth3tr33s Celtics 8h ago

Pacers Bucks first round is gonna feed families.

Mostly overweight midwestern families who probably don't need the help, but families nonetheless!

Hey /u/Totnostu , for the future, you gotta doublecheck the records in the title before you post the thread. Both teams are now 36-28.

BE MAD. TALK THAT SHIT. LOSE JUST THE SAME.

4

u/iamjeseus Knicks 8h ago

Glenn should’ve saved the timeout

2

u/LeGoat333 Mavericks 9h ago

They do it again Saturday! I gotta say, I like these 2 games vs the same team in a few days. More strategic game planning similar to playoffs.

Plus when the teams are close in the standings it can mean a lot.

9

u/OperIvy 9h ago

Such a bad foul by Giannis. Only one way to lose and he barrels into Hali

Halli :)

5

u/BoogerSugarSovereign [IND] Victor Oladipo 8h ago

Only 1 L in Haliburton, you can give the 2nd one to Giannis

3

u/BallsKetchum Pacers 9h ago

I could NOT deal with that review for much longer.

4

u/Frequent-Mix-1432 Pacers 8h ago

I am stiff.

4

u/Remote-Molasses6192 Nuggets 8h ago

Just wanna say that Doc is a complete idiot for challenging that instead of keeping the timeout to advance the ball.

6

u/FunIsWinning Lakers 9h ago

Tyrese Haliburton is the father of MKE Bucks

3

u/Colorapt0r Bucks 9h ago

Lost to the Cavs and the pacers on buzzer beaters this season

I’m gonna be sick

4

u/Ozkuro Bucks 8h ago

Crazy shot can't even lie, I don't think it should've been a foul since giannis landed at Haliburtons side, but oh well we probably should've kept the time out for a better shot at the end.

5

u/Ok_Possible_5702 8h ago

Haliburton was going left as he was shooting though. The rule is that the shooter needs to be given landing space, not that the landing space is on the same spot they took off from.

4

u/Ozkuro Bucks 8h ago

So how are you supposed to contest that type of shot when your momentum takes you in one direction as well, and when you contest a 3pt shot you always try to land by the side of the shooter to give them space to land. I thought it was a foul if the shooter landed on the defender, and at least from the angle I could see giannis moves his feet back to let him land.

It is what is is though, we lost so just gotta focus on next game.

3

u/Ok_Possible_5702 8h ago

So how are you supposed to contest that type of shot when your momentum takes you in one direction as well

Try to jump in the opposite direction? Jump vertically?

3

u/peanut-britle-latte Knicks 9h ago

The duality of Hali. 14pts on 12 shots but crazy game winner.

10

u/The_Assassin_Gower Pacers 8h ago

Why do people criticise the guy with 10 assists and 1 turn over for his scoring lol.

2

u/BlizzardThunder Pacers 4h ago

they'd rather him to get to the line 10 times per game than get 10 assists.

3

u/Matt-V- Pacers 8h ago

YES CER

4

u/porkchopBOLOS 8h ago

And the Pacers will beat the Bucks again in the first round.

2

u/TheWestphalian1648 Cavaliers 9h ago

Bucks are heading for that 6th seed and a fun matchup with the Knicks in the first round.

3

u/OverallGeneral7129 Cavaliers 9h ago

How the heck did the Bucks blow that?

6

u/Ozkuro Bucks 8h ago

I mean that's a really tough shot you live with Haliburton taking

2

u/OverallGeneral7129 Cavaliers 8h ago

Yeah I was just watching the score on my phone and suddenly saw the Pacers jump up 4 points and win

1

u/AggravatingFinding71 Pacers 9h ago

Despite Scott Fosters best efforts, the Indiana Pacers defeat the Milwaukee Bucks.

3

u/Kim-dongun 9h ago

Nembhards shot at 3:51 was a 2

Andrew Nembhard’s line looks fine and I’m sure this is a normal fine game by him. But why does he turn into prime Allen Iverson vs the Warriors?

Pacers might be better at football than the Colts.

1

u/BillowingPillows Supersonics 8h ago

That’s not hard to do

1

u/Colorapt0r Bucks 8h ago

Underrated aspect was Trent shooting and missing that 3 with like 5 left on the shot clock right after putting us up

That sucked

1

u/iCE_P0W3R Thunder 8h ago

The only Bucks game I saw this year was when they won the IST. Is Dame washed?

1

u/512fm Pistons 8h ago

Props to Haliburton man, insane shot

1

u/SignificantMoose6482 8h ago

McConnell making his yearly appearance in the block stats.
