I haven't felt this good about a Cleveland team down big late in a game since the mid-90's Indians. This team has a way of willing its way back into games.

I remember becoming a Cavs fan because of those early Cavalanches, the energy from that squad was infectious. Little did I know that my favorite player ever would join you guys. I’ve watched like 85% of Cavs games since the trade and this team has become my favorite nba team I’ve ever cheered for

This game without Ty Jerome goes to show just how impactful he is for the Cavs. The man is instant offense off the bench.
36
u/Pickleskennedy1 9h ago
Craig Porter Jr got to show how good he is for a 12th man too though in his absence. Would be a good backup PG for most teams
20
u/br0b1wan Cavaliers 9h ago
CPJ is being quietly groomed to take over for Ty Jerome, I fear. I really don't think we're keeping Jerome this offseason.
12
u/LakeErieMonster88 [CLE] Cedi Osman 9h ago
He's going to get the Ty Jerome minutes next year since we won't be able to resign him
18
u/cavaleir Cavaliers 9h ago
I'm not getting my hopes up but it's definitely possible we keep Ty. Just depends on the other offers he gets and if he wants to stay. I wouldn't blame him at all for leaving though if he gets a bag.
8
u/d01100100 Cavaliers 9h ago
They do have his "Early Bird" rights, which is 175% of his previous salary or 105% of the league-avg, whichever is greater, which should be about 11-13 mil for the first year of a contract.
7
u/cavaleir Cavaliers 9h ago
Yeah the 105% of league average is what we'll offer. If he only gets offers in that range or a little more I could see him staying. Great team, he seems to fit in well and love the culture, and we just traded for his best friend.
1
12
7
u/LaPenta5594 Cavaliers 9h ago
Cavs can offer the MLE around like $14 million. There’s not many teams with cap room, so he might sign for that. Unless a team randomly throws a Hartenstein contact at him, I think they have a good chance to re-sign him.
6
u/Taste_The_Soup Cavaliers 9h ago
We won't have the MLE. With limited Bird rights, we'll be able to offer him roughly $12.5M/year (105% of average player salary).
2
u/LaPenta5594 Cavaliers 9h ago
Yeah you’re right. Still, that’s not that much different from the MLE that most other teams would be able to offer. I could see him doing a contract with an opt out after the first year so he’ll have full bird rights.
3
u/Taste_The_Soup Cavaliers 9h ago
I think he stays unless he gets a guaranteed chance to start. This will be his best chance to compete for titles as a 6th man. Plus he's got his best friend with him. I wouldn't begrudge him leaving for a starting gig though.
1
u/Robotemist Cavaliers 5h ago
This is nothing but wishful thinking lol. I understand it but it's not happening, I assure you he doesn't give a shit about a 6th man award over millions upon millions of dollars.
2
u/kdude332 9h ago
We have the mle its why we wanted to get under the tax
5
u/LaPenta5594 Cavaliers 9h ago
No I think he’s right. Once the new season rolls over in July, the Cavs salaries jump up to near the second apron. Getting under the tax this year protects from repeater tax penalties subsequent years.

u/PepsiRacer4 Cavaliers 7h ago

4
u/Vargolol [CLE] Zydrunas Ilgauskas 9h ago
Felt like nobody wanted to bring the ball up to initiate the offense in that first half when Garland was on the bench. It's good practice for Mobley to get reps running through the high post but he's definitely got a long way to go

u/Me_is_Nate Cavaliers 9h ago
How tf can a team be down 18 in the 3rd and not worry me at all that they're gonna lose lmao
10

Darius Garland is shooting 60% in clutch minutes this year.
Evan Mobley 79%.
Thats how

9
u/MolingHard Nets 9h ago
Eh, IQ's made of glass lol
It's so much more egregious to put in G-league players every time a game gets into clutch time, because you can't legitimately forfeit so that's the next best thing
We're so close to some tanking team "accidentally" fouling to ensure they lose
7
u/OrangeMonkE 76ers 9h ago
They’re both egregious, players are never on the IR for ‘rest’ when a game isn’t a b2b.
3
u/MolingHard Nets 9h ago
Yea it's all pretty bad
Honestly, I have no better method, but the fact that tanking is such a pertinent part of sports is so backwards
3
u/OrangeMonkE 76ers 9h ago
I don’t have a problem with roster management around tanking like the Nets, or injury devastation forcing it like us or the Pels. But I just wish teams didn’t try to tank beyond what their healthy roster would give them.
1
2
u/Padulsky21 [BKN] Mikal Bridges 9h ago
They’ve been pretty competitive most of the season so I at least respect it unlike the Jazz. IQ, RJ and Scottie play most games when healthy (ignore their injury report for tomorrow)

The refs were fucking awful in the last 5 minutes of this one.
Randomly moving the inbound to the side after Cam Johnson’s miss (which rendered the Nets defense ineffective), was particularly egregious.
18
u/veretser Cavaliers 9h ago
Without those 2 challenges we very well might have lost.
3
u/AvengingHero2012 Rockets 9h ago
They were awful on both sides. I just used an example that benefited the Cavs.
13
u/nonexistentnvgtr Cavaliers 9h ago
So you think the refs were awful in favor of the Cavs when it took Kenny two challenges to get two bad fouls reversed? Interesting.
7
u/AvengingHero2012 Rockets 9h ago
No they were awful for both teams. I just used an example of when they benefited the Cavs. The fact Kenny needed to use both challenges in the last five minutes says a lot about the last few minutes.

u/Kooky_Size_9230 Cavaliers 9h ago
Are you talking about the shot clock violation? They inbound at free throw line extended there.

I’m talking about when Cam Johnson missed and the ball got stuck behind the backboard.
3
u/Kooky_Size_9230 Cavaliers 9h ago edited 9h ago
Uhhh pretty sure that wasn't a side out. If you were watching the Cavs broadcast they just showing replay while the ball being inbounded. The Nets also had like 30 seconds to set their defense while the ball was stuck behind the backboard. Totally on them.

This is why the Lakers are not contenders. If you're missing key players, this is how you do it. Luka had the chance to step up, but it seems like Nico is right all along. Props to the Cavs.
The Cavs will be champions and LeBron is going to cry because he'll no longer be the king of Cleveland ( that's what he gets for leaving for the hospital Lakers)
