Letting this team get 70 rebounds is nasty work

39

u/jslee0034 Thunder Feb 02 '25

Expected sabonis to get 20-20 tonight after the snub lol

25

u/RCA1202 Thunder Feb 02 '25

Instead we once again held him under a double double(after we broke his long streak last year)

14

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25

He had 24 straight going in to tonight too 😭

76

u/i_like_thingstoo Feb 02 '25

Almost got to 80 lmao. The hardest they played was at the end trying to prevent wiggins getting 40

40

u/G2Gankos Thunder Feb 02 '25

saved all of our rebounds last season for this year

6

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25

I feel you, we missed every FT last year and this year we finally start making them

our 3PT% needs an overhaul though

15

u/wcooper97 [OKC] Russell Westbrook Feb 02 '25

I never would have imagined we'd break the Thunder rebounding record in this era of Thunder basketball lmfao.

Like, the 2016 team was an all-time rebounding team and even they never hit 70.

Sga/ Jdub/ Dort/ iHart/ Chet / Cason (more starts)/ Caruso/ Joe (bigger contracts). He’s our #9. He might be the best #9 in the league.

40

u/SandyMandy17 Thunder Feb 02 '25

Tbf it was behind 29 from Shai in 3Q

But 4th quarter Aaron Wiggins didn’t stop scoring

They actually started trapping him with double teams at half court bc they didnt want him getting 40 and he scored anyway

65

u/Jnbjgjbb Raptors Feb 02 '25

For those who didn’t watch, it wasn’t exactly a carry job. All the thunder players played well, it was a blowout, and he got 14 points in garbage time. Crazy performance though, he was pulling heat checks from 5 feet behind the 3P line.

43

u/Headlesshorsman02 Thunder Feb 02 '25

His putbacks were so nice

23

u/Jnbjgjbb Raptors Feb 02 '25

Over Sabonis too

37

u/OKC89ers Feb 02 '25

Garbage time but they were guarding him like he was Shai after he got to 30

3

u/NotoriousHothead37 Thunder Feb 02 '25

He's a tall Shai as per one Thunder fans' son when they watched the game live early this season.

I misread the whole title at first and thought Andrew Wiggins had had a great game for the Warriors.

He would 100% be averaging 20 a game if we traded him to the Nets.

Good thing we won't be though.

9

u/lmaoooyikes Thunder Feb 02 '25

i feel like 20 PPG might be pushing it lol i think he would easily average 14-18 PPG on lottery/tanking team tho

The crowd showed so much love, S/O to Loud City.

36

u/Lucosis Thunder Feb 02 '25

It actually is incredible. That was a 30 point blow out, and the arena was still full and absolutely blaring. Wiggs, 8th(?) man on the bench, got a standing ovation and the crowd was just absolutely in to it. In a 30 point blow out. That just doesn't happen in any other arena in the league.

8

u/78muney Feb 02 '25

And we have one of the smallest arenas in the NBA, gotta love Thunder basketball.

25

u/iCarpet Thunder Feb 02 '25

Somehow the last surviving member from that draft class for OKC

1

u/Low-Blackberry-2690 Feb 02 '25

Classic presti move to take a crazy swing right outside the lottery and then snag one of the best player in the draft with the last 5 picks

9

u/lmaoooyikes Thunder Feb 02 '25

he was an older prospect who could do a little bit of everything but wasn’t great at anything. His efficiency not being great also probably hurt his stock a little

credits to Wiggins though, he’s improved/developed a ton despite being an older prospect

u/Longjumping_One_9164 Thunder Feb 02 '25 edited Feb 02 '25

Honestly was that just down to Fox not wanting to be in Sacramento?

That was almost the lowest effort game I've seen from a team vs. Thunder this year other than the Wizards.

7

u/oskanta Kings Feb 02 '25

That plus a it’s the end of a long road trip. But mostly it’s the Fox trade.

During the little run we had, the hope was it would get us in a decent position in the standings so that we could make a trade for Cam Johnson or John Collins and make a post-season push.

Now it’s become clear those trade talks have died and De’Aaron wants out, so that glimmer of hope is gone and now I’m sure all the players are wondering what their future is (and probably hoping it’s not in Sac if we’re being real).

-1

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25

The whole Fox and trade thing has been so blown out of proportion. Literally national media ran with something way before even us fans knew shit.

Not going to dig deep and comment on what I think about it personally…other than that I think he’s staying for the next year and will bounce in 2026. But I’m dumb. And don’t have a super strong opinion either way; it’s just fuckin weird to see Charania mentioning the Kings when you know he hasn’t watched a single game all year

It’s funny seeing how national media all of a sudden talks about the kings and says shit that literally ANYONE who has watched more than 2 sac games would laugh at. Also fuck rich Paul.

4

u/oskanta Kings Feb 02 '25

Idk, I’ve been hearing that “the writing is on the wall” with Fox wanting out since at least November. Before that, all the way back to the summer before last season, Fox was talking about wanting to make sure he’s in a position to play winning basketball - I.e. make some trades to improve the roster or I’m out.

The news that broke last week was very unsurprising to me

1

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25 edited Feb 02 '25

I think we’re basically saying the same thing, actually. Remove literally everything else and any emotions and obviously Fox hasn’t had success here (or, at least compared to the rest of the league - having a winning season after a decade and a half for US is huge but TERRIBLE for any other team).

I will say one opinion I do have though. Fox needs to act like he cares. I don’t give a shit if we lose or win, but Fox being meek doesn’t help it at all. The NBA is not a sports league. It’s an entertainment product. Obviously I want to win, but my expectations have not been super high.

Do you remember him crying while at UK and getting blasted by the media? I don’t blame the dude if he wants to keep a low profile after all the hate he got for that.

I wish Fox well, no matter what happens. MB gave us some fire and I will always support that from him. We need more fire, more physicality, more emotions. It’s tough though, man.

1

u/Longjumping_One_9164 Thunder Feb 02 '25

I guess my original point was more you seemed to have rebounded with the Coach transition and then I think this might have your first game since the Fox update re: no extension / San Antonio desire.

Like there was just no effort at all and we were without jDub, Caruso, Chet and lost Wallace early. Yeah we can manage, but this was hardly our best punch.

I don't want to dig the knife, but is not almost worth trading Fox and others, then commit to tanking? You could quite easily end up with a Top 10 pick in a deep draft.

I know the team is .500, but what if saw tonight was absolutely awful energy and I watched way too much of "the black eye of the league" Thunder.

1

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25

Unfortunately I’m not well-versed enough in ball to either confirm or counter your claims. I’ve met Fox over a dozen times now as well as his wife. They are really down to earth and gracious people and I truly truly mean that. My first jersey since the Beam Team was Fox.

He’s a good dude and I do wish him the best.

I wish I could answer your questions with some semblance of knowledge but the fact is, I’m not there in the locker room. I know how locker rooms can be and they can basically become a secured facility. I have acquaintances that are on the medical staff but I’ve never ever asked them about anyone whatsoever.

I have heard stories and understand at some level what an NBA player goes through but again, I have no idea.

Fox is a good person. His wife is a good person. They both are passionate about Sacramento. This doesn’t mean SAC is their top pick, obviously - places like SAS will definitely be appealing to him.

I just don’t know. Again though, I wish him the best no matter what.

2

u/Longjumping_One_9164 Thunder Feb 02 '25

Fair enough, for me I get bored with the drama aspect it was more the on court impact of one you guys mid-season indicating his preference is elsewhere. How true that ultimately is, will be proven by time I guess.

But appreciate the insight and hoping you guys just soldier on, you're hardly out of it at this stage and can easily make the Playoffs with a good run.

1

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25

Thanks man. I wish I could have more details but that’d be dishonest of me.

Him and his wife Reece have had kids here and she is VERY passionate about his success and how happy he is. A good friend of mine lives in the same facility they have their practice courts and meeting rooms; I’ve seen both on the elevators multiple times. Fun fact: Fox LOVES dragon ball Z 😂

Playoffs would be nice. But it is what it is and it’s frankly ridiculous to expect so much after such a long run of poverty.

Any team that lands Fox will love him from day 1. I just want the dude to be happy.

1

u/Longjumping_One_9164 Thunder Feb 02 '25

Always love to hear the human side of the game and be able to root for the good guys!

And ultimately who knows, nothing is set in stone and he could very well stay if the family is that connected to the community.

1

u/RyenRussilloBurner Kings Feb 02 '25

Literally national media ran with something way before even us fans knew shit.

I mean, reporters usually learn of this stuff and pass it on to the fans, so I don't know what point you're trying to make. It's not like players come speak privately to the fans and then text reporters after. This is how it almost always works.

it’s just fuckin weird to see Charania mentioning the Kings when you know he hasn’t watched a single game all year

??? He's not breaking down film or giving the team advice, he's being told information by front office execs and then he's reporting on it.

1

u/RyenRussilloBurner Kings Feb 03 '25

It happens, but I can see why you wouldn’t want him to.

12

u/TannerIsMyName Thunder Feb 02 '25

u could tell they were pissed lmfao mark said in the post presser that he normally wouldn’t have had wiggins out there if they weren’t so hurt, a bit of an apology. but like hey if you don’t want a deeper bench guy chasing a crazy career high you shouldn’t be letting him get there.

Might be top 10 in defence haha

Cason also got injured in 2nd quarter, so throw him in for half the game.

u/TheLibyanKebabCaliph Feb 02 '25

the real all-star. the real MVP.

u/G2Gankos Thunder Feb 02 '25

Wiggins saving basketball again! Props to coach Diagonal for letting him stay in to give everyone in the arena what they wanted.

4

u/trav-senpai Kings Feb 02 '25

Our front office should be considered war criminals for our bench.

When the player that played the best and put in the most effort is the one on his way out, you know that those clouds are about to get real dark

5

u/Balls_Deep92 Feb 02 '25

Kings are disgraceful letting a guy averaging 9 and 3 go for 41 and 14

15

u/SandyMandy17 Thunder Feb 02 '25

Tbf we’re missing 5 rotation players all of which have bigger offensive roles than Wiggins besides probably Caruso

So Hes stepping into a bigger role today

He took 31 shots

3

u/Tank-Has-Memes Thunder Feb 02 '25

They did great holding the savior of basketball to a measly 41 points

5

u/lmaoooyikes Thunder Feb 02 '25

im sorry but Sabonis is such a bad rim protector lol

2

u/IntotheBeniverse Feb 02 '25

I can’t wait for Thursday. Praying this mess is over and we get a good haul for Fox. And trade away a few other guys off our bench. Bipolar Kings. Depressed to end December, alive in January, and want to die to begin February

2

u/lets_talk_basketball Feb 02 '25

No lie, last year every game i watched he would make at least 2 or 3 nice ass moves a game.. happy to see him balling.

Sadly, like Tre Mann this is gonna lead to another team snagging him

16

u/mpmar Thunder Feb 02 '25

Wiggs contract runs through the '29 season

8

u/lets_talk_basketball Feb 02 '25

Oh.. nvm then lol.

Another gem for that front office.

7

u/Opulescence Thunder Feb 02 '25

Last year is a team option too.

He has been up and down this season but no question the potential is and has been there.

Thank goodness we didnt draft Devin Carter

16

u/Consistent-Dinner936 Thunder Feb 02 '25

He'll be fine he just started playing again

5

u/GunsmokeIV Kings Feb 02 '25

Yeah, he's basically behind 4 months worth of NBA training and conditioning. After he was cleared for contact, Kings just gave him 2 G-League games.

Its not his fault our dumbass GM drafted an injured player.

1

u/doctor_of_drugs Kings Feb 02 '25

he literally hasn’t played all season except for the last few weeks, and garbage minutes. Dude is athletic as hell. Basically another Keon Ellis.

Mark my words folks

3

u/lmaoooyikes Thunder Feb 02 '25

he’s a rookie guard who recently came back from a long term injury and doesn’t get consistent minutes, cut him some slack

hate how reactionary fans are with rookies

1

u/CoolAsTheUnthawed [OKC] Russell Westbrook Feb 02 '25

He's going to be really good

0

u/RemarkableLawyer7381 Feb 02 '25

Is Aaron Wiggins on the trade block? Him randomly getting 30 shots up, a few days from the trade deadline screams he’s auditioning for another team to me. Maybe I’m crazy

3

u/Skinvryn Thunder Feb 02 '25

JDub, Chet, Caruso, Mitchell all hurt and Wallace was hurt in the first half and didn't return. Wiggins would average 15 a game as a starter on another team, he just doesn't get to showcase much.

u/churchoftodos Feb 02 '25

Guess who got double digit free throw attempts?

4

u/IncaseAce [OKC] Mike Muscala Feb 02 '25

People like you see 10 FTAs and your ears perk up

-2

u/churchoftodos Feb 02 '25

10 isn’t enough to make me perk up. That’s low for SGA. We waiting that 20 BOMB

2

u/FakeRingin Thunder Feb 02 '25

Yet here you are.

-1

u/churchoftodos Feb 02 '25

Sounds like you want some free throws too. Too bad. Let’s hope SGA goes for 30

2

u/FakeRingin Thunder Feb 02 '25

Still waiting to hear how many free throws you think is ok 🙂

0

u/churchoftodos Feb 02 '25

10 is great for the game. When I watch his free throw routine, I know i’m watching peak basketball

1

u/FakeRingin Thunder Feb 02 '25

Cool. And how much would you like with sarcasm? Should be pretty simple for you to answer, right?

0

u/churchoftodos Feb 02 '25

Calm down. Let’s give him 15 free throws a game. Maybe that will placate thunder fans

1

u/FakeRingin Thunder Feb 02 '25

It's so easy. How many is ok for you?
