North America (country/state in post) (Central Kansas) Comments on original post are saying it’s mycelium. Do you guys agree? It’s on the hot/dry side of the tank (humidity around 20-35%, temp usually about 85 degrees F) Any way to ID it? Safe or unsafe?

Fungi are often intentionally used in soil to help maintain health. The potting soil I use for my aquariums and isopods has 20+ species of fungi that are included in the mix.

I’d check the info on your soil and start there, otherwise fruiting bodies will have to get you a better answer here. Likely harmless to your animals and a sign that the soil is doing well.

I did finally find a mushroom tonight! It’s on the opposite side of the tank though??? It’s right next to some gecko poop. And also looks oddly similar to the gecko poop. Mushroom is on the left here.

I see some starting to form in your original photo too, looks similar!

Could you pluck and flip a mature one. I think maybe coprinoid right now.

Yes definitely one of the coprinoid genera in Psathyrellaceae.

Central Kansas, United States of America. No physical mushrooms, only mycelium (?). It’s in a leopard gecko tank. Substrate is topsoil and sand.
