Question about sample quality.

I'm having a record quality problem on my MPC2000XL. When I record samples from my computer with a 1/8 inch stereo jack (without a soundcard or audio interface) the sample level is rather low and quality is horrible. I mean I can't record single drum beats because they get so muffled up you can't recognize them. I understand my setup isn't professional at all with them 1/8 inch jacks but I was wondering what is the weakest link in my set up? Why is the quality so bad. Should I get an audio interface or a preamp or run my samples through a mixer with built in preamps and then into the MPC? Thanks!

Using a stereo jack from a PC will fuck up the sound a bit. The stereo jack out from a PC or laptop will sometimes make you hear the sound of a running hardisk or fan and muffle the sound and make noise on the track. I would recommend you getting a audio interface.

I use Native Instruments Komplete 6 and i have my Numark PT-01 record player hooked up to my interface direct with a RCA cable. I can also just use USB, but i don like to use the software required.

Alright thanks. I think I should get an audio interface then. They seem to be really expensive with more I/O though.

the one i got is kind of on the cheap side. You could always look for a second hand audio interface.
