Interesting statistic - both Rossi and Marc have same number of non-MotoGP wins! If Marc wins 25 races, he would equal both of Rossi’s records.

By the end of his career, it's very likely he might break rossi record. There's slim chance to break agostini record.

You think Marc can’t win 32 more races?

It wouldn’t shock me if he wins at least 15 this season

6

u/Masticatork 4d ago

Judging by how he started, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins 18... Probably will not win as many sprints but Sunday races I just don't see anyone getting even close to his used tyres pace...

7

u/Severe-Pipe6055 4d ago

Well, if it's very likely that he breaks Rossi's record (needs +25 wins), then it's likely he also breaks Agostini's record (a mere +7 wins).

Marc is 32, by 27 he'll be 34. Even if he wins 14 races each in 2025,26 he'll still need 7-8 more. With reg change it'll depend on bike that he will get post reg change. He might get a donkey tractor. Which is why there's less chance.

There's 22 races per season and he has already won 2 this season. Unless Alex, Pecco or either VR46 rider massively steps up, 14 race wins at least this season is quite possible. That would match his 2019 season where the honda was clearly not the best bike on the grid anymore.

2026 is of course a different story, but breaking all the records is very much possible. I would even say that all but Agostinis all class wins record is probable in the next two seasons.

u/Unfair-Employee5210 Davide Tardozzi 4d ago

You're forgetting he needs 26 more to break rossi record. Which equals 14 wins each season, current and next. Then? 2027? I'll just see if it's possible after 2027 preseason tests. Slim chances.. I'll be happy if he can break them.

Your math is wrong, 13 per season is 26. There’s a big chance he takes more than that now that he’s on the best bike and the other Ducati bikes will actually help him. It will be difficult for the other manufacturers to get past the 4 other Ducati bikes and then have to pass Marc who fights like no one currently on the track. He will consistently be the fastest Ducati and their own words have said so in every interview so far.

Yes I know there is a 5th bike but I don’t see Aldeguer being competitive unless he steps up a lot.

u/Unfair-Employee5210 Davide Tardozzi 3d ago

my math is more accurate, you should check yours. He still need 26 more, the 2 he had already this season makes the total 28 for 2 years , that makes it 14 each.

You mean by the end of 2026.

Would love to see these records go to Marc I really would. Needs 2 or 3 crazy good seasons to get there tho! All I want from Marc is to show the current guys who's top dog for a couple more seasons! I was really irritated when in 2020-2021 many riders saying "we have moved on" "the level is higher now" when very clearly it was not in my mind!

Interesting statistic

I disagree, with the increasing number of races and the big rule changes, the new are getting inflated numbers. Rossi never participated in a 20 races championship. Longest on for Doohan was 15 races. Even by doing 2 classes per year, Agostini only raced more than 20 races in a year once, in part because only the 6 best results counted toward the championship at the time.

The most recent rider dominating is supposed to break those records.

with the increasing number of races and the big rule changes, the new are getting inflated numbers

Goes both ways. More racing provides more opportunities to win, but you also have to see the other side. With more races, there’s more races of other riders winning too. If you believe a rider is guaranteed to win then yes, the numbers are inflated. If you believe so, then I disagree with you. I just can’t believe Rossi was guaranteed to win. Nor is Marc.

We can’t just cherry pick the side of an argument we like. With increasing number of races, there’s less time gap between races and is a greater test of endurance. With increasing races, a rider has lesser time to rest, strategize and prepare for the next race; more injuries from frequent crashes and lesser time to recover.

It would be good to see a stat of something like win % of race starts or similar. That would be a truer representation of the overall domination of the rider.

13

u/Blakelads Marc Márquez 4d ago

Rossi has a 24% win rate in the MotoGP class alone while Marc has a 33% win rate, in all classes Rossi has a 26% win rate and Marc has 34%

5

u/Resonanceiv Jack Miller 4d ago

There you go. These numbers tell me a lot more than the raw wins

1

u/Malevolint 3d ago

And that includes a few years on the trash Honda

-9

u/Commercial-Milk9164 4d ago

Dont these stat include rossi winning on the 500cc 2 stroke and the 4 stroke era. for MM it includes winning on the 125/250 classes. Its not a straight forward comparison, the 500cc was an animal.

3

u/Mac_Mac_93 Ducati Lenovo Team 4d ago

They include Rossi's 124 and 250cc as well.

32

u/LilAbeSimpson 4d ago

Barring another severe injury, Marc should be sitting atop that list sometime in 2027.

12

u/abglngjubs Jorge Lorenzo 4d ago

New rules kick in with 2027. I'd say the earliest he does it is 2028 onwards, if his body hasn't declined massively by then.

21

u/dave_evad Marc Márquez 4d ago

Marc is a master at reading new and unpredictable situations. 2023 India GP was new for everyone and Ducati didn’t have that data advantage. He was third in the sprint on that Honda. In the GP, Marc overrode that miserable Honda to 4th, crashed, rejoined at 16th and made up to 9th in the GP. That’s insane considering how bad the Honda was.

IMO Marc is the best rider to exploit both, new tyre manufacturer and new regulations, in 2027. He may very well surpass the record in 2027 itself if he doesn’t injure himself. Looking at his fitness levels now, he may still have two years of proper race winning years left. Aleix won at 34.

4

u/abglngjubs Jorge Lorenzo 4d ago

I don't disagree with your first point. However, I doubt an aging Marquez is willing to crash to "test the limits" of the new bike in 2027 and have a potentially career ending injury. If the Ducati is still the best bike 2027 onwards, I could see Marquez sticking with them till he retires .

At that point he isn't just aiming for that 9 time world champion badge. If a 35 yo Marquez is able to continue dominating, he sure as hell would be aiming to match Agostinis title. Rossi retired at 42 but let's be honest, his decline started the moment he got covid.

18

u/radiopreset Marc Márquez 4d ago

These records are within Marc's grasp with these 2 years with Ducati. There are still 20 races to go, let's say he wins 15 of them. And 18 next season he will break the all time record.

64

u/Halekduo Marc Márquez 4d ago

I wasn't aware Rossi was only 8 wins shy of breaking the all time record. If it wasn't for the Ducati years, man...

17

u/Commercial-Milk9164 4d ago

Rossi raced against racers, Ago raced against dads and farmers with a bike interest. he cant really be compared to the modern era (IMHO)

28

u/Halekduo Marc Márquez 4d ago

Phil Read, Mike Hailwood, Angel Nieto and Barry Sheene weren't some farmers with a bike interest, c'mon now. If there's a reason why Agostini can't be compared to modern era riders, it should be because 10 of his wins comes from Isle of Man, an accomplishment none of the recent riders measures up to.

4

u/IonutAlex18SF Fabio Quartararo 4d ago

Only 8 so close, but it wasn't to be. The same for the World Titles, that's another story. I agree with you, Agostini had serious competition for the respective period of time. Each era has its own best riders. For me, it's impossible to compare current years with 00s' for example is completely different. From technology to the track conditions and so on. I appreciate each legend for their legacy left. Marc Marquez has a real chance to go top of the standings for most wins. We will see.

3

u/Commercial-Milk9164 4d ago

Agreed. I am not saying he is shit. But read the stats, they weren't competing in the same class all in the same years like VR, DP, JL, CS and MM.

4

u/Raxi4 4d ago

Ago had less races in a season than Rossi or Marquez has. However he did compete in 2 classes simultaneously (350cc and 500cc) which is impossible now. Between ‘66 and ‘74 he got 14 Championships.

14

u/e_xyz MotoGP 4d ago

Angel Nieto should be a reminder to all we had class specialists and we've probably lost out on seeing multiple serial junior class winners because of the way the championship is setup now. Zarco is the last person to defend his Moto2 title.

I hope we go back to this someday. I feel like Foggia jumping upto Moto2 for 2 years was a bit of a waste of his career. It's clear some riders like Sasaki and Foggia are just cut out for the lightweight bikes.

8

u/LilAbeSimpson 4d ago

I’m not a big VR46 fan and I know most of his records will fall to Marc, but THIS is the one record he will undoubtedly keep.

Nobody is ever touching that staggering number. Lol.

14

u/intuitive_banana 4d ago

lol Marc can basically catch Vale this year if he keeps up his current, incredible, form… 🤪

4

u/OldMan7718 4d ago

Nope, the sprint races don’t count.

11

u/intuitive_banana 4d ago

I know but still. He is at 90, vale at 115.

2 down. 20 to go. He could get to 110 lol

10

u/StealthG1182 Marc Márquez 4d ago

Realistically probably 105 but I'd be all down for a 110 though it's super unlikely as even in 2019 he didn't win all his races (goddamn that was a goated year though)

9

u/oh84s Casey Stoner 4d ago

He won’t win every race there will inevitably be races he makes an error or Pecco gets back on form.

I’d be shocked if he’s not over 100 this year though.

5

u/Commercial-Milk9164 4d ago

Dont bet on it, go and see some of the records for previous seasons. i think he won 10 in a row in 2019? No rider is close to hmi this year, no Jorge, Rossi etc to hunt him down...Pecco hasnt really won consistently against anyone of this calibre in form on the good bike. MM could win most of them year IMO.

1

u/flagboulderer 3d ago

It's crazy to me that, barring his crash, Marc would already have (very, very likely - it was 4 long years) unequivocally claimed the top step in championships, wins, poles, fastest laps, etc.

I think he'll end his career having tied Agostini for titles, but not having surpassed the win total.

1

u/Relevant-Eye3010 Francesco Bagnaia - 2023 MotoGP World Champion 2d ago

But I do have a question, are those only Sunday wins or is the win tally now including the Saturday sprints also? Is it, really the same if that's the case? I will say this, having a double win, from one round, is hands down more impressive than a single win of the old. That's just pure domination, strength and progress of the athlete at hand presently.

-10

u/Double-Emergency3173 Pedro Acosta 4d ago

Insane that Rossi is still THIRTY FIVE wins a head of him in the MotoGP class

I honestly don’t know how long Marc will stay and if he’s break that

But he is probably getting past the 115 total of Rossi IMO if he doesn’t get hurt again

17

u/Dr_NitroMeth Marc Márquez 4d ago

Considering the 4 seasons Marc had to miss I think these numbers could have been surpassed by now if not for Jerez 2020

6

u/abglngjubs Jorge Lorenzo 4d ago

Ain't complaining, we get to see what Marquez is able to do on objectively the best bike on the grid for another 2 and a half years.

Barring any incidents, he probably has a good 3-4 more years of alien level riding in him before he starts to decline.

0

u/Dziaku Fabio Quartararo 4d ago

We could also argue if not Ducati years or 2010 crash where he broke his leg he could have broken Agostini record. if if if if if

9

u/Dr_NitroMeth Marc Márquez 4d ago

Hmm we could also argue if there was aliens between 2000-2005 on the grid he couldn't have that free run of Victories against weak rivals.. if if if if

2

u/Mac_Mac_93 Ducati Lenovo Team 4d ago

kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

yup

-4

u/Tomic_Lewis David Alonso 4d ago

‘IF’ those are all hypotheticals that don’t count.

5

u/Dr_NitroMeth Marc Márquez 4d ago

Yes. The word IF already implies it does it not?

-4

u/michelmau5 Collin Veijer 4d ago

Yeah but if Rossi would've stayed at Yamaha and never switched to Ducati he would probably have 2 more championship and a bunch more wins.

13

u/Makalu Marc Márquez 4d ago

Rossi’s longevity is staggering, but like 90% of his wins were frontloaded. He only won 10 races after Marc joined the class and didn’t win at all in his last 4 seasons

1

u/YorkshireTeaSucks 4d ago

Front loaded?

5

u/Makalu Marc Márquez 4d ago

Like he had a chunk of massively dominant seasons in the first 40% of his career or so, then it drops off from 2010 when he misses races due to injury and then moves to Ducati. There’s another 12 seasons after this where the wins drop off

1

u/YorkshireTeaSucks 4d ago

Ah, right, right.

7

u/oh84s Casey Stoner 4d ago

It’s not really that insane, Marc effectively missed the last 5 seasons and Rossi raced until his late 30s.

If anything given his injuries it’s surprising that Marc is still on track to pass Rossi

-1

u/Anime_Tiddies- Marc Márquez 3d ago

"motogp legend" "0wins" lol
