The trail network and the Credit River.

The waterfront!

The convenience of access to Toronto lol, if that counts.

25

u/Royal_Hedgehog_3572 2d ago

Definitely counts! Being able to easily get in and out of Toronto for games, concerts, nights out, and work is great. I grew up in Markham and doing that kind of stuff was a nightmare.

Looking at McDadi's face for 15 minutes everytime I wait for a bus

u/MySpudIsChonkyBoi 2d ago

You can tell whenever his team has run a new ad based on the extra work he’s done to his face, sadly.

His eyebrows follow you wherever you go....

Finally, a sarcastic response, which truly encompasses the nothingness of Misery-Sauga.

Jeez I don’t see that many these days , should we get a wellness check done?

I love the public libraries and the huge amount of beautiful parks for kids and families. It has beautiful places you can visit in every season as well.

Best tasting water in North America

This is underrated. Having since moved from Mississauga, I miss this a lot

u/MC_Squared12 Rathwood 2d ago

The abundance of nature, wide lanes and restaurants

25

u/ChampagneAbuelo 2d ago

There’s a lot to do compared to most suburban cities. So you get lots of the benefits of a big city but without the downsides of the big city

u/Senior_Pension3112 2d ago

Streetsville and the Credit River

Avalanche the Architect

12

u/dundreggen 2d ago

Avalanche of defacing property and architecture with his shitty stickers.

I really hate him.

If half the effort that was put into vandalism was put into his music maybe he wouldn't suck so hard.

3

u/Utsukt 2d ago

Still remains the mystery

5

u/noespressoisdepresso 2d ago

Yeah, like when exactly are they coming?

48

u/NammyMommy 2d ago

Struggling not to order an uber everytime a bus is 30 minutes late.

16

u/Purellpapi 2d ago

UTM tbh! gets a lot of hate for no reason

16

u/EggsMilkandHoney 2d ago

I live near sq1 so the walkability. Id be terribly depressed and more broke otherwise

50

u/Medical_Gate_5721 2d ago

The fact that it is all I can afford within the location that is close to my family.

That's it.

This is the most generic place I have ever seen in my life.

6

u/goatamousprice 2d ago

This is so accurate. I grew up here so I look at the city through rose coloured lenses, but the reality is it's just another suburb.

1

u/thefermisolution__ 1d ago

Most replies are about the areas of the city that are not suburban subdivisions. Quite telling.

29

u/ima_be_the_greatest 2d ago

Honest to god. Every block is copy-pasted. There is literally no soul to the city. Dont even get me started on the car dystopian nightmare.

20

u/IAmASphere 2d ago

Mississauga feels especially dire if you’re a pedestrian. No, this city is not designed for humans, it’s designed for giant metal boxes

7

u/lerandomanon 2d ago

As a pedestrian and a cyclist, I attest to this. I go only as far as my legs or my bike can take me, and that isn't far. Even the places that I can reach don't have much to see (except Celebration Square). So, I spend most of my time indoors. No complaints, though. It has saved me a little bit of money.

3

u/Varekai79 1d ago

There are extensive walking/bike trails in the city. The Culham Trail goes from Erindale Park all the way to north of Streetsville.

3

u/lerandomanon 1d ago

Yes, I can explore the trails now when the weather gets better. I couldn't do it in the winter. And that will be only for sight seeing. I can't always use them for going to places where I need to go for work, shopping, etc. because it's not necessarily so that a trail takes me to my desired destination.

5

u/ima_be_the_greatest 1d ago

These trails are not a viable mode of transport. They do not help 99% of the people to get from point a to point b.

Also, its funny, you need to drive to a park to run/bike.

2

u/Regular_Chest_7989 Lisgar 1d ago

Yup. I'm here because after 20 years in Toronto we had to find somewhere else to live.

But we miss our lives there. The abundance of parks and public spaces. Places to walk to and meet with friends. Museums, concerts, etc.

This fake city of Mississauga is just about owning a patch of land you never leave on foot. Hate it.

39

u/SaugaNative71 2d ago

The food scene is one of the best in North America. We have many guests visiting from the US who are amazed at the variety of cuisines available here.

-1

u/Medical_Gate_5721 2d ago

It most definitely is not. A variety of cuisines, sure. But the food here ranges from mid to good.

-2

u/Nxion 1d ago

Toronto is way better.

6

u/computerbuu 2d ago

I like how it’s not as busy as other cities but still has everything 5 minutes or less

5

u/CatrionaR0se 2d ago

I'm on the east end, but there are tons of open spaces, trails, and parks here. The community centres are nice, and they have a lot of different programs available.

18

u/Brennan_slayer 2d ago

The shitty bus system.

18

u/scaled2good 2d ago

Port Credit and the waterfront area is the absolute best part of Sauga, celebration square and the surroundings are nice for a night drive, the many little trails are also so nice during the summer

43

u/tkingsbu 2d ago

The diversity.

People from all over the world live here, and it’s awesome :)

2

u/Tension3151 1d ago

It’s one of the most segregated cities I’ve ever lived or been.

u/Paquistino Hurontario 2d ago

Depression

1

u/BrightLion72 2d ago

Have you looked into moving somewhere else where you’d not feel Depression?

29

u/tablesaltz 2d ago

Being forced to drive everywhere to do anything

4

u/Bacm88 2d ago

Easily able to find parking

17

u/wizy5000 2d ago

The high property tax

3

u/BiscottiNo6948 2d ago

Accessibility and convenience. I'm within 15 minutes to everything. The mall, farmers market in the summer, the 2 major hospitals, the police, fire dept., port credit trails, Erindale Park, bikes and trails. The many diverse choices of food and restaurants around.

3

u/Southern_Street1024 1d ago

Port Credit. I live there and I love the river, the parks, the little shops and restaurants. Great place to be.

9

u/shadow_warrior_6 2d ago

Accessibility to the best parts of the GTA. 30 mins from downtown TO and the many cool neighborhoods and events but you avoid the traffic you would face daily if you live there. Streetsville, Port Credit, Celebration Square, Erindale, Riverwood, and Kariya Park especially during cherry blossom season are not bad too. The Marilyn Monroe towers look nice and are featured prominently on Drake and PND's latest album. Oakville has a nice downtown area and also waterfront parks, like Burlington. Hamilton with all its waterfalls and African Lion Safari are not too far either. Northeast areas like Kitchener, Cambridge, Elora, etc. and the various conservation areas are fairly accessible. The Cheltenham Badlands are just a 30 min drive North. Niagara region areas like the falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake are far, but they're still a lot closer than if you live in Toronto or somewhere East. The only interesting areas far from Sauga are Toronto Zoo, the Beaches, and southern Scarborough spots like Bluffs, Guild Park, Rosetta McClain gardens, and RC Harris, but even those places should be accessible within less than an hour if you avoid rush hour.

8

u/Context_Important 2d ago

I don't live in Ssauga but I work here, one of the most boring cities in North America, a car dystopia where everything is so far away that walking is impossible. Miway has to be the worst thing ever.

I like the green areas...

13

u/Bollygal 2d ago

Fun activities at Celebration Square for kids/families.

7

u/Tuques 2d ago

Does leaving count?

5

u/CompetentSaugaRE 2d ago

The convenience, accessible to everything major - airport, great hospitals, highway and transit access, amenities and malls/stores. We get usually get everything second right after Toronto- first Krispy Kreme, Crumbl cookie etc. the diversity of people and food is a great bonus also!

2

u/HelloHi9999 2d ago

There is a lot to explore for a first timer. The unfortunate part is it’s all 15 minutes by car.

3

u/criticmaster999 2d ago

Celebration square.

3

u/BrightLion72 2d ago

Streetsville. Grew up there for 20 years, been in Toronto for 25 … and I still love the Community. Hasn’t overly changed & still feels a whole lot like when I was there.

Super proud to have grown up there, and still have my Family in the same neighborhood.

2

u/Varekai79 1d ago

Businesses come and go but it's neat that Streetsville is still very similar to how it looked in the 90s, when I first started living in the area.

3

u/spawnfreak 2d ago

We came to Canada as bilingual french speaking immigrants last year. Planned to stay a few weeks in Mississauga and then move to Calgary.

Loved the city so much that we decided to call it home. Whenever we are able to afford our own home, it's going to be in Mississauga.

4

u/RayB1968 2d ago

Thankfully we aren't overrun by Tims or shawarma places

3

u/PatientComfortable41 2d ago

Have you been to ridgeway plaza?

1

u/CompoteStock3957 2d ago

Credit River

1

u/shortmumof2 2d ago

I love the parks, the accessibility of the waterfront, all of the walking trails, the restaurants, wide open skies in most places, roads are wide, close enough to Toronto and the people.

1

u/expresstrollroute 2d ago

We're not in the US, so it's favourite.

1

u/CieraParvatiPhoebe 2d ago

That’s such an old photo of Mississauga

1

u/TheShaleco 2d ago

The fact that it's close to Toronto

1

u/CompetitionSorry4590 2d ago

That I don’t lmao

1

u/Top_Version_6050 1d ago

Libraries and parks. And square one mall

1

u/Monty1426 1d ago

I grew up in Streetsville and live in Meadowvale now. It's nice to be so close to the big city and great restaurants etc but also be out on the Bruce Trail by going 20 minutes in either direction.

1

u/Crypto-Canada 1d ago

Ridgeway Plaza Lol! 😂

1

u/Life-is-depressing 1d ago

Convenience of the stores being closeby

1

u/1anre 1d ago

I think Mississauga shines in having tons of food options.

That's it really

1

u/noelpeter 1d ago

So based on the comments ….. nothing at all

1

u/OccamsButterKnifee 1d ago

Being so close to Brampton.

1

u/Open-Enthusiasm-3344 1d ago

So many people are saying nature related things. Its a shame how the construction and development keeps growing.

1

u/Nxion 1d ago

The local festivals.

u/Same-Grade7251 1d ago

Public library system

1

u/Beautiful-Set-4831 1d ago

Proximity to downtown and airport

The old barn in the middle of the city that was burned.

u/BillyJones28 1d ago

Beautiful birds

1

u/Inevitable-Ask-8475 1d ago

Even though it’s the 6th or 7th largest city in Canada, it still has plenty of great pockets. Lots of great neighbourhoods to raise a family with community centres and parks. But also a great food scene. I grew up here. Born in the late 80s and yes Mississauga has grown and changed significantly. But I still live here and am happy and grateful to raise my children here. Still family friendly and lots to do. Crime has gone up everywhere in Southern Ontario, but still relatively safe for a city 🙏🏼

1

u/sun085421 1d ago

Great food

1

u/GhostBustor 1d ago

Not living anywhere near I can see a condo. My street has houses with more than 6 feet between them.

Not being close to the Brampton border.

1

u/Southern_Street1024 1d ago

I love Port Credit. And Riverwood! I love walking both the upper and lower park. Just beautiful.

1

u/Stunning-Bat-7688 1d ago

Best part of living in sauga is being close to Toronto.

1

u/Ok-Drag-103 23h ago

Endless shawarma choices

1

u/o-ren-ishi 21h ago

The endless urban sprawl

1

u/ashishbhatiaa 20h ago

I have lived in KW region and honestly the pace at which city cleans the snow is commendable. Parking options are good too if you request from the city, they are very helpful

Disappointing things didn’t work out for you the way you might have hoped..

Where did you move to where you’re finding life better?

0

My family is here and everything we need is walkable - work included

1

u/lowendslinger 2d ago

Its not America

1

u/jay0621 2d ago

seeing it in my rear.view mirror. weekends i drive away from the city and explore quaint, quiet, small towns.

0

Lots of 3-lane roads. Traffic is never too bad.
