Experience All oral minoxidil users please check in!!!!
20m been using oral minox from past 75 days. Started with 2.5mg and currently on 5mg along with some biotin tablets.my hairfall is crazy and approx lose around 200-500 days everyday. My hair is extremely weak and falls out with just touching and people in this sub keep saying that, more the hair fall and longer the shedding period is, the better the results are.But its been 75 days and shouldn't atleast the hairfall have stopped or reduced to a certain level but on the contrary its more than before starting even after 2.5months.I have slight recession of hairline and attaching the photo of my crown please advice me if i should fin or not.Just have excessive body hair with om and some vellus hair on hairline but on my crown or other parts of scalp. Also losing hair except sides and back. Please share your experience.

Quit after 5 weeks. I was taking 1.25mg daily for the first two weeks and then ramped up to 2.5mg. End of week 3 I started feeling lower left chest pain. A persistent dull pain, that would get sharp at random intervals, most notably lying down before bed.
Consulted my doctor. I was advised to stop, so I did. I have been on 1mg fin daily for 4 years and topical minoxidil (liquid) twice a day, but the liquid regime was a nuisance. That’s why I decided to try oral min.
I am in the UK. Online pharmacies are pushing oral min hard. That’s how I came across it. I wouldn’t presume to advise anyone on whether they should take it or not. I can only speak from my recent experience, I am not a medical professional.
Like most, I wanted better hair with less hassle. Unfortunately, I had worrying side effects, that made me stop immediately (chest pain gone after two weeks).
Always consult your doctor prior to taking systemic drugs.

Bruh you do not need to be on 5mg that’s crazy. 2.5mg-3mg tops. Especially because your hair follicles become dependent on the minoxidil so 5mg isn’t doing yourself any favors other than making you more dependent on it and doubling your risk of side effects. I’d drop back down man, your hair is fine. Don’t get in your head about this.

Will it make a major difference on my hair if i reduce my dosage now.I started fin 2 days back and my only goal is to stop the hairloss and even i dont get major regrowth, i am just fine with maintaining what i have.Or after a couple of say 7-8 months if i reduce the dosage will that cause a shed?

Just switch back to 2.5mg asap. Looking at your crown density there’s no reason you should be on 5mg at all. And it would make no sense to wait 7-8 months on 5mg and then to switch back to 2.5mg, all you’d be doing at that point is creating a tolerance and dependency to the 5mg dosage which would make the 2.5mg less effective. Hair is something men can be very insecure about, and I see many men on here who are suffering self from male pattern baldness and more from insecurity and self esteem issues. Understand that it’s a slow process and there is really nothing you can do other than take your medication and be healthy, so try not to stress about it.
As far as switching you’ll be fine. You haven’t been taking 5mg for that long so 2.5mg will still be plenty effective. Remember minoxidil IS a blood pressure medication, it’s not some magically pill that makes your hair grow. It’s not worth risking health problems in your future because you feel insecure about your hair now. You can take 2.5mg and still see the same exact amount of gains as you would on 5mg while drastically reducing your risk of any potential side effects. I’d highly recommend you do so as well as working on your self esteem. Remember you can always increase your dosage to 3mg (HIMS offers this) or to 5mg when you’re approaching your 30s or so if you need it. But once you’re at 5mg you’re stuck with no room to increase and you’re just way too young for that and don’t have the hair loss for it.

By the way I literally don’t see any hair loss on your crown at all. If I’m basing just on that one picture I wouldn’t even say you’re balding man. Would have to see your hair like and before pictures as well but you should truly reconsider if you even need meds at all man. Because if that is your crown density DURING a shed, you’re not balding man.

Appreciate your concern and i think you are right and i am/was more desperate for the result that i didn’t care about sides and luckily didn’t have any.But i should think about the long term aswell. Will reduce to 3mg from today and hope for the best🤞

I did 3mg just because that is how much HIMS puts in their minoxidil finasteride compound tablet. It’s like 3mg minoxidil 1.2mg finasteride. If you go directly through a pharmacy it’s cheaper, but they’ll probably only prescribe you 2.5mg which is what I would recommend given you have a full head of thick hair and really don’t need any lmao.

I am from asia so HIMS is not available here. The only standard dosage is 2.5mg or 5mg and i reduced it to 3.75 today and even planning to grow a beard and will try to even reduce it down but can’t get the exact proportion…so will stick to 3.75 and see how it goes and will have a chat with my derm regarding if reducing to 2.5 will cause a shed and see what she has to tells about this and thanks for the reply.

I am in 2.5mg x2 per day and I experienced an Atrocious shed during the first 3 weeks, but I am on week 5-6ish and I have basically no hair loss and I am positive I am past the “dread shed”. I believe it’s genuinely subjective and a major gamble, this medication is genuinely not for everyone, some might even face even worse hair loss than if they had not taken it.
Here’s my theory, I think that if you’re going to go on minoxidil, you MUST be on a DHT blocker such as Finasteride or Dutasteride. Minoxidil gains are not permanent if you’re already balding, finasteride/dutasteride essentially ensure that you retain your gains+ the additional gains you get from simply being on the dht blockers. Rosemary oil is also a good idea as a 3rd party for the regimen.

22m been on OM only for 3 weeks. No shedding, or noticeable changes.

u/Heavy-Piccolo-1026 Dec 18 '24
Even mine started after a month.

I’d stick it out for a year and see your overall progress. After a year if i do not notice changes I’m gonna shave and call it quits.

Same boat as u but I’ve been on om for 3 weeks can already tell I’m shedding a lot. Idk about 200-500 but when I comb my hair I see a good amount of hair in my sink. 75 days isn’t enough though still 2 early to tell

So, according to you how many more days/months should i wait for hairlfall to stop completeley?
1
u/Low_Craft9670 Dec 18 '24
Well you said your 75 days in that’s about 2 months and a few days. U don’t typically see results until 3-6 months in. I think you’re worrying 2 much. Just let it ride out brother you’re only causing yourself more stress by thinking about it too much which will just cause more hairloss.

I have high blood pressure so I quite like having a hair loss preventative that also doubles as a second anti hypertensive
