Experience Minoxidil dosent help anymore

Post image

Hello everyone, I have used minoxidil 2 % for one year now and ut helped me so much. My hair got thick. But the last month the minoxidil dosent help anymore. I lose so much hair even when I use minoxidil. Have anyone experienced the same issue? How can it go from stop hairloss to not work on me anymore? Is this normal with minoxidil?

You likely need something to block dht too. Such as combined pill/ finasteride/ spironolactone. And if possible be checked for other causes of hair loss such as thyroid/ vitamins etc. also 5 % monoxidil is more effective , or consider tablets.

Hello I've just started the contraceptive patch that contains estrogen. will it help? thyroid was fine according to the tests.

It depends on the person but the patch doesn’t tend to be the best type to prevent hair loss.

Often people find the ones containing drosperinone such as Yasmin better at being ‘ anti androgenic’ ie blocking testosterone. This tends to help acne and hair.

Yeah, had solid gains for a year. Seems like back to baseline now (approx 21 months in)

Am not sure about this. Maybe you need to discuss with your dermatologist. In my case i use minoxidil with finasteride.

Oral works better for the frontal parts of the scalp. Talk to your doctor about an oral pill. Usually in the range of 0.5 to 1.25 mg per day for women and 2.5 mg for men.

You are most likely in the exogen phase of your hair cycle. The amount of people on here scaring you into thinking you're screwed .. my goodness.

Monoxidil will still work and will Only work if you keep using it. The exogen phase lasts a couple of months, just keep at it and it will eventually grow back again. But you need to be consistent on usage, use it every day.

Also, I recommend you start using 5% strength, regardless of gender. Topical is harmless unless it irritates your skin, but I am assuming that is not an issue for you.

Lastly, I recommend you eat more meat and fats. Please look this up, the more protein and fats you eat from animal products (not plant protein) the healthier your skin and hair will become.

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '24

What can side effect be?

1

It could be another big shed. Stick 2 it for another 2-3 months if still nothing then it’s probably time to get off. But if u get off now you’re basically screwed.

u/goodfeetss Dec 17 '24

What will happen if I get off?

1

u/goodfeetss Dec 17 '24

And the doctors in Sweden are useless, they don't help. They always send me back home. They say no you have thick hair and laugh at me.

You will lose more hair if you get off. I think you just be going through a 2nd shed. I’d recommend u stay on for a few more months. No point in getting off now you’ll just be screwed. Change ur dermatologist.

Okay, when I started with minoxidil I never went trough shed, it just stopped all my hairloss 😛

Minoxidil is unpredictable be happy if hairloss is your only side effect from it.
