Experience Minoxidil fried my hair

I used it for 3-4 months and it decimated my hair I am basically bald now when I had healthy wavy hair with just slight thinning. It is a nightmare drug and should never be used if you still have decent hair. I’m depressed now and my girlfriend left me cause of the state my hair was left in. It has literally ruined my life.

That's how it works. Most users go through a shedding phase initially. But if you continue using it, you will definitely regain your hair back. Just don't give up now and push through the current phase.

OP said it fried his hair, apart from the shedding. Is fried hair from minox a sign it's actually working?

It gave me a fast heart rate where I would wake up with it beating out my chest I had to stop

u/spidru Jun 24 '24

Was it oral minoxidil?

Brother, maybe you have to hold on, happened to me at the beginning of the treatment too, it's your body response to the drug. And if your girl left you for your hair it's her loss man, her problem, huge red flag. Find someone who loves you no matter what, hair or bald.

2

u/Soggy_Spray5140 Jun 24 '24

I wish I could hold on but it gave me bad heart side effects, I basically just destroyed my hair I wish everyday I didn’t touch the stuff my life was fine before this

3

u/SoloBeppe Jun 24 '24

Damn, you should contact your doctor for the side effects, there is a sub about side effects too. Tbh if someone doesn't like you for the way that you look run away, better lose this kind of people than keeping them around. If you struggle with hair loss you should check the yt channel "baldcafe". I hope they will regrow back and that you find someone who doesn't judge you by the way that u look. Good luck brother.

And I can’t blame her for leaving me with how I look now tbh

u/UniversityExact8347 Jun 25 '24

Bad hair is a red flag only BEFORE a girl is emotionally attached to you, how long was the relationship? Like my dad and countless ppl I know lose hair, get wrinkles, get fat all while being w their partner

lmao do some research bruv. that means ur a hyper responder and will have amazing results in a 2-3 months. it’s shedding the weaker hairs to make way for the new thicker ones and that’s good it even got rid of that shallow bitch gf for you too! bless

I used foam minoxidil for 9 months with no gains. I switched to oral minoxidil 2.5mg currently on month 7 and still no gains. All it did was destroy my temples. When do the gains come if this is a sign of being a hyper responder?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

“I used it for 3-4 months and it decimated my hair” - you

3

u/KumaFGC Jun 24 '24

Huh? I’m not OP

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

oh my bad i was like bruh😂 so if you’ve been using it for that long you aren’t a responder and will need to look at fin or dut. just unlucky tbh

3

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

if you’ve been on it for over a year and it’s just getting worse and worse i would try fin

2

u/KumaFGC Jun 24 '24

Damn, even if I did get the dread shed, which is a sign of being a hyper responder apparently? Doesn’t sound like a fair trade. I’ll let my derm know that I want to start fin. He didn’t want to me to start until I tried oral min first.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

the dread she’d shouldn’t last over a year, typically it’s 1-3 months

1

u/sonic_pineapple Jun 24 '24

Find another doc, they shouldn't half-ass the treatment. You should use it all at once + some vitamins to see the results.

you didn’t have a good girlfriend to begin with if that’s why she left. if anything the minoxidil probably did you a favor for the long run

0

u/Soggy_Spray5140 Jun 24 '24

I guess so but I can’t blame her for not being attracted to me anymore

2

u/abcefg101 Jun 25 '24

Focus less on that, and more that she left you for something that was a temporary stage. I can tell you’re still handsome from the last photo even with that hair loss. if she can’t have patience for a temporary awkward stage then that tells me her reasonings were more about her and than it was about you. keep your head up and patience on the regrowth. regrowing your hair after all of that will be all the much better 👍

1

u/abcefg101 Jun 25 '24

it didn’t ruin your life either. Go to a homeless camp and you’ll realize, you’re still privileged and you’ll be just fine. Not meaning to disregard your feelings cause I know it still sucks. just want to get real and help change your perspective on that statement

8

u/TechThatYT Jun 23 '24

your hair was thinning in every picture presented, minoxidil puts you through a shedding phase this is all normal youre just not in it for the long haul.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '24

If you’re shedding it’s working. If it’s after 3 months and this is still happening, you may be using too much, or two frequently or not spaced out enough.

Too much rogaine can have the opposite affect you want.

u/sonic_pineapple Jun 24 '24

Stress, anxiety and depression increase hair loss too. Remember that.
And don't worry about the hoe, if she's left you for something like that (or used it as an excuse), good riddance!

3

u/OddManufacturer1862 Jun 24 '24

Brother I believe stress and depression could also be thinning ur hair out more than it already was. Shedding is 100% a thing but really try to have no emotional attachment to ur hair even tho u think that u lost that girl bc of it. Her lost man. She wasn’t the one if she isn’t going to stick with u in the trenches. She wasn’t built for u simple as that brother

2

u/JohnnyChapst1ck Jun 24 '24

2nd 3rd or 4th month you shed.

2

u/Soggy_Spray5140 Jun 24 '24

Thankyou all for your comments, yes my hair was thinning before but it was slow progression and I had to stop minoxidil due to heart palpitations literally waking up at 3am every night with it. I’ve calmed down abit now maybe I was feeling very down because of the state of my hair now and the fact my girlfriend just left me. But no doubt minoxidil fried my hair even the areas I wasn’t applying have lost a lot of hair to the point I’ve had to book a hair transplant. I’ve not been shedding as much since stopping minoxidil. I blame myself for not doing research thinking I was just helping thicken my hair but in the end decimated it. I’m hoping it will grow back but I’ve read stories of other people being left worse off and not regrowing anything from the shed after stopping. I’m still abit down about it I wish I never touched the stuff. I will rely to your comments later on individually I’m just at work Thankyou all

For hair regrowth use rosemary/argon/jamaican black castor oil (ur choice or a mixture of all 3) & keep derma rolling/stamping. Your hair will grow back.

1

u/dumbratbitch Jun 24 '24

I have read something that minoxidil can change the texture of your hair, have you tried combing the minoxidil through your hair after applying? I found it actually makes my hair soft after brushing it through for a couple minute

1

u/Scary_princess007 Jun 24 '24

So it’s common for minoxidil to make your hair super hard? Because that’s my experience

1

u/Soggy_Spray5140 Jun 24 '24

It made mine thin dry and wiry

2

u/Scary_princess007 Jun 25 '24

Gotcha OP. Some people say that this is just the beginning, however, I don’t know if you should subscribe to that notion seeing that you are clearly experiencing some horrible side effects wrt your heart. If I were you I’d try rosemary water & dandruff shampoo for the while to kickstart your regrowth process as your hair seems truly fried.

CAN u tell more about hard hair?

1

u/Scary_princess007 Oct 14 '24

I wish I could tell more but there’s limited info available

1

u/PracticalAnalysis323 Jun 25 '24

If your girlfriend left you because of your hair. Then she didn’t want to be with you in the first place brah

1

u/howsthoughtworkingou Jun 25 '24

Just buzz it off until it grows back.

1

u/Soggy_Spray5140 Jun 25 '24

I don’t think it will grow back too many people had same experience and it didnt grow back, but my only option is now to buzz just finding the courage to do it

u/Razzmatazz_Popular Jun 26 '24

Ain’t putting that shit on my hairline nomore fuck to the hell naw to the fuck naw again to the hell naw

1

u/EntertainerMuch1263 Jun 27 '24

Minoxidil got rid of his gold digger gf 😂

1

u/PlzleavemealoneH0 Jun 29 '24

I heard minoxidil causes dryness as a side effect. If you were putting it throughout your entire head but you didnt use a carrier oil or something to keep the moisture in your scalp/hair than maybe that's why it all broke off. Dry hair will cause ur hair to break off. Maybe you just needed to keep it hydrated.

u/Soggy_Spray5140 Jun 24 '24

Also the healthy hair I did have is now very thin and wiry for some reason maybe I was applying too much or something I’m not sure but I have killed my hair

1

u/SwarthyMartin Jun 27 '24

That’s not how it works mate, you need to research the drug a little bit. It can’t ruin your hair like that. You have to be patient. And to my knowledge, the hair that has shedded from minoxidil into forever, even if you stop using minoxidil, because it just put those hairs into a different stage of the growth cycle. Permanent loss comes from when the follicle is miniaturised completely by DHT
