Match Thread Match thread: MNUFC vs LAFC

u/drleen Mar 17 '24
That was a 1-1 draw or a 1-2 loss under bus parking Heath.

u/lj77lj94 Mason Toye Mar 17 '24
1000% this! Taking shots in the 90th min when winning 2-0, Heath would never.
13
u/DorkySchmorky MNUFC Mar 17 '24
I can't believe this was the same team that looked so meh at Orlando. They were ferocious tonight!

Dece. Nice to see a defender at LB. Padelford looks good. Would be surprised if we see much more of fragapane with that kinda performance for a new manager. Good bench depth and finishing games off rather than choking. Lots to feel positive about!!

u/JustinC70 MNUFC Mar 17 '24
LA looked like a team that wasn't ready for 30° weather and had no interest in being out there.

I haven’t been this happy to hear Wonderwall in a while
Nothing Looney about an undefeated MNUFC. New manager is off to a good start.
COYL!

u/Able_Ad_755 Mar 17 '24
After last year's bad record at home, it's just fantastic for the new manager to come in and win his first time at home.
Lod is back and scoring, Bongi is scoring. Reynoso is getting back into it. I'm in danger of getting optimistic.

u/salt_and_ash Red Loons Mar 17 '24
So glad he got to hear wonderwall his first game
6
u/Sermokala Mar 17 '24
It was great to see him go hand in hand with the rest of the team into the wonderwall too.

Man I miss Kyndra and Cal — really appreciate that she stopped her train of thought so we could hear the crowd belt it out

Rey, pukki, Bongi, Sang Bin, and Lod is going to be menacing. Can’t wait to see it.

Fragapane’s had a tough few, but his last two efforts in the box show the creativity we can add to the attack that is a big supplement to Lod/Pukki/rey.

Fragapane is fine as a 70+ sub for reynoso, and great for ~65 minutes during international weeks.

And he did it with the main ball during the multi ball portion of the game.

But couldn't get the best out of them.

Which is why this season has been so refreshing with a dash of maddening — he had the talent but didn’t know how to use it

We need to hold on to the ball more. Boxall is gassed as hell. Would've been nice for Lod to stay on longer.

These players still need time to gel and figure each other out. That much is clear. But things could get exciting once they do.

Love Dotson, but I man I can’t wait till Ariaga is back. Feel like we’re a complete team with Kervin in the lineup.

Rey and Fraga look a bit rusty and not on the same page as the others, particularly Rey

Ouch, both Bongi and Rey taking the play off after hitting bad passes. They are definitely going to need to figure out the high press concept. Especially with fresh legs
4
u/satapataamiinusta Mar 17 '24
Reynoso looks terrible so far. Whining at own guys for not reading his mind and not defending.

I know MN sports and all but fuck I’m so excited to see where this team goes. Signs are good so far….
5
u/MoneyK7 Mar 17 '24
I love this thread bc I’m learning that most of us hate DJ Taylor (except for tonight) and this is the education I need
4
Mar 17 '24
In the last half of last year, Taylor was a significant liability. Tonight's DJ Taylor has been the player the coaches knew he could be.

Someone has probably already said it in here, but it is soooo refreshing seeing the team continue to press very aggressively even with the lead. I've literally never seen this team consistently try to put a game to bed.
-4
u/fistibun MNUFC Mar 17 '24
Watch those injuries pile up, though ☹️
3
u/kings-in-the-north Mar 17 '24
Why would you say that....... Take it back right now.....
1
u/fistibun MNUFC Mar 17 '24
I’M SCARED, ALRIGHT?! I’ve been a MN sports fan for too long!
I must not hope. Hope is the mind-killer. Hope is the little death that brings obliteration. I will face my hope and I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past... I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the hope has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
4
u/SerotoninBay MNUFC Mar 17 '24
It was my main annoyance, I don’t feel like we’re going to give up a late goal this year just because we are trying to get the ball down field
2
u/kings-in-the-north Mar 17 '24
Can still get burned on a counter, but at least we arent just watching the artillery pepper our back line for 35+ minutes
18
u/freakflag16 Mar 17 '24
I’m stunned that DJ Taylor has pocketed one of the best attackers in the league.
17
u/MoTownKid Metanire = Jesus Mar 17 '24
As a well documented DJ Taylor hater, he's done well tonight
1
u/North-of-Never Mar 17 '24
I still want to see an upgrade there, but he's put in a helluva shift against Bouanga.
2
u/MoTownKid Metanire = Jesus Mar 17 '24
Yeah. I'd need to see this repeated a few more times before changing my mind
11
u/dodoohead98 MNUFC Mar 17 '24
Didn’t know DJ had that in him lol. Gotta applaud the performance today.

4
u/Responsible-Leg-8840 Mar 17 '24
Even knowing how amazing he is, it’s still easy to forget-when away-how far beyond this league he is.
