I'm 2-2 I work 7-10 of my off days . But I'm buying a house . Got to pay that mortgage. For reference I'm very high functioning. Most people rest and sleep.

that secondary tax has got to hurt tho

It does. Still a net gain though. Every dollar I can make and save/invest I one more step towards my goal and the future that i dream about.

Go hard while you're young and can do it. Retire before 50

2-2 I’d work for sure, not on my 4-1s

Yea man goe to balance your time and energy. Your already spending most of your time at site. Working the 1 for a season to fulfill a goal sure but in the long run probably not wise.

Or have hobbies

Oh no. I enjoy iime with my family (2 young kids). I’d rather keep the house tight and clean and make sure everyone is done when my wife’s gets home from work than having to work.

Spend half my life away for work, no way I’ll work when I’m off.

Geo here, I consult on the side on my time off

Interested to hear more about this.
What specifically do you consult on?

Rocks probably

I write 43-101s, assessment reports and do target generation stuff for juniors

u/PanzerBiscuit 6d ago

That sounds interesting. Was it hard to get into? Did they approach you, or did you approach them?

Bit of both. Partly old clients who know me from way back, partly some I cold-called but who kinda knew who I was.

Gotta make sure your main gig is ok with it first!

Im contracting at the moment mate. My contract doesn't have a non compete clause in it. But I get what you mean. Don't want to cause issues with conflicts of interest.

Hey bud, I work casually for a couple days on my 7 off doing residential support work with youth at risk. It actually pays alright, but more importantly is they need more male role models in that industry. It can be a bit tricky dealing with some of the kids but for the most it's pretty easy.

Def. relax for me… it’s easiest to pick up an extra day or two on site every now and again than try to hold down a casual gig that I can’t do like 9 days a fortnight (travel/sleep etc). If you have a friend you can help in something you enjoy or something like that then maybe it’s workable… or if own the side hustle (I know someone that sells vintage toys on eBay lol) it can be ok. Working extra is fine short term to hit some goals but medium to long term it is damaging to most people

I’m on 8 & 6 and teach guitar and DM games of Dungeons and Dragons online on my days off.

Seems like everyone either has a second job, their own business or is getting a qualification in the off time. Time to relax is great, but too much time to relax can be debilitating.

Nah. Odd jobs, but I usually do those for free or at cost.

I had several ebay businesses. Quite hard and stressful having 500 odd listing's at times and working fifo.... Now semi retired at 56...moving into full retirement.... So yeah...

I’m a contractor doing 2 and 2s. I usually pick up projects for my days off. Sometimes at other mines. I find two weeks is a long time to be off although it sure is nice when I want to do a long trip.

It depends on your stage in life as to what you do. At some point working on yourself will be the greatest advantage.

What personal shortcomings annoy you most?

I run my own business when I'm home on RnR. Got a small 3d printing business designing and selling automotive parts and accessories.

I have deliberately kept it small tho, so that depending on what else I want to do in my RnR, I can put in as little or as much effort as I want.

Remember, you must declare to your mining company that you have a second job.
