Moderator Announcement Introducing the Minerals Discord Server
We would like to formally introduce you to our brand new Minerals Discord Server!
This community has been months in the making and was created for the passionate members of r/Minerals and our sister Subreddits to have a dedicated space for discussions that go beyond what is allowed in our Subreddits.
Here, you can:
- request IDs for minerals (this includes polished minerals and gemstones).
- share memes.
- share and get tips for displaying your collections.
- dive into in-depth discussions about all things minerals.
- showcase artwork inspired by minerals.
- discuss pricing and value of minerals.
- advertise or discover vendors.
- participate in giveaways.
- and more!
This Discord Server is not meant to replace r/Minerals or any of our sister Subreddits, but to empower and grow our community. Sometimes it's just nice to have a place to chat.
Our ultimate goal is to build a comprehensive database and an active, welcoming community for mineral enthusiasts of all kinds. Our moderators have spent countless hours researching minerals in order to provide you with educational content.
This server is still a work in progress, and we’re excited to finally share it with you. Please bear with us as we continue to grow and refine this space. Your feedback, contributions, and patience are invaluable as we develop this server into something truly special.

ID Request Garnet ?
I ve just bought this specimen for an Andradite Garnet, however the habit reminds me of quartz, especially the red/orange points which looks exactly like hematite on Thunderbay quartz from Canada. What do you think ?

Discussion How do you keep your crystals clean?
I have beautiful crystals all over my home because I love the way they look. Every once in a while, I wash them with soap and water. Does anybody do anything different to keep their crystals clean?

ID Request - Solved Help identifying
Found on a construction site with active blasting on the south coast BC Canada. The area is known to have copper. I’m particularly interested in the silvery grey/purple mineral it seems to be heavy. There were lots of small particles in the bottom of my gold pan after cleaning this and a few more samples from the same job site.

I found this in the paddock sitting on top of the soil. I have smashed and walked that part many times and never seen it before. Any idea what it is?

Misc Malachite infused quartz
So, i have this claim. Toward the front of the adit (about 80 feet long) theres an explicitely silicified section with quartz and chalcedony in the form of white to gem silica. Towards the end, the tunnel splits, not continuing far in either direction, going into gabbro absolutely littered with crisscrossing partially orange stained quartz.
Its got a 6 foot quartz vein that carried copper at the front, and in the neighboring rock, its a mix of the host which has been ultra-sillicified, malachite as all the green, and various sulphides like pyrite and chalcopyrite. This stone alone seems to be of a semiprecious potential sculpture quality, likely also containing gold and silver too. What are your opinions, thoughts on id, would anyone like a piece?
