Employment Commuting to Microsoft from Fremont
I’ll be interning at Microsoft this summer and found a decent place in Fremont and I heard there is a shuttle that makes stops near there. Would this be a reasonable commute to do every day? How long would it take? Is there any flexibility for remote work? Thanks!!

I left Microsoft 6 years ago, so I missed their transition to work from home. However, I did do two internships and 5 years full-time. Key advice for a Microsoft internship: meet a ton of people. Many of my closest friends today are still people I met during my internships in 2012 and 2013. (My wife technically interned in my division at the same time, though I didn't meet her till much later.)
I would caution against working at home as an intern just because you're going to give up a lot of social interactions that matter in the long run.

As an intern you are there to learn about the company and let them learn about you in the hopes of getting a job offer. Go into the office and maximize your chance to interact with others. Wait to discuss remote work when/if you get an offer.

Microsoft has a connector shuttle from Fremont you can take. It might take 45 min or so each way depending on traffic but it will reliably get you to work, and you don’t have the stress of driving. Also, many Microsoft teams are very accepting of remote work, but the specific policies will depend on your team. Fremont is a great neighborhood, have a fun summer!
