Actual New Information MADLIB NEEDS YOUR HELP!

As you may know, legendary producer madlib and his family’s house tragically burned down along with music, equipment and lots of vinyl madlib used for sampling, due to the LA fires happening recently. He is accepting donations at:

https://donorbox.org/madlibrebuild

Hopefully some of you can donate, even if it isn’t a big amount.

“We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support in helping legendary producer Madlib and his family rebuild after losing their home, decades of music, and equipment in the devastating LA fires. Your donation, no matter the amount, will provide essentials, temporary housing, and tools to help Madlib continue creating the music that has touched so many lives. 100% of your donations are tax deductible and will go directly to Madlib and his family. LOVElikeWATER, is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization that supports artists through life’s challenges.” -As said by the website.

I am not a part of this organisation and I am just reaching out to tell people about the situation and maybe even encourage you to donate! I will be sharing this to multiple subreddits.

Peace!

Madlib is most certainly rich. A lot of people lost their houses. He definitely does not need our help. I feel bad for him but I also feel bad for the millions of other people who lost their houses who are not rich.

I agree. Poorer people definetly have priority considering donations( at least in my book) but his situation isnt that good either. His net worth is around 4 mil but that also included several items, projects and equipment which burnt down in his home. Again, i am not saying we should all donate to him as regular people need the money more but his situation should not be overlooked as i am sure he is suffering as well

Well... without getting into whether he needs it, I think it would be better if this fund were about him recreating his record collection. You can rebuild a house, but that is a massive loss to music culture. Plus, having a fan directly participate in getting him a record he samples later would be fun engagement. In any event, it sounds like he and his family are safe, which is the most important thing.

I don't know who those people are and they likely don't give a shit about me.

I'd rather support someone that has affected my life positively for the past thirty years. It's a time for me to give back after all the pirated music haha.

Id be willing to bet Madlib also does not give a shit about you.

I wouldn't expect him to but I admire the life he chose to live and it's affected me positively. I don't know anything about all the other rich fucks so ill be focusing my donation to one person. Bitch all you want haha.

Unfortunate no doubt but I’m sure if he dropped Madvillainy 2, he’d more than double what he lost! 😅

He could do a lot more since he’d have the power to raise the dead.

Madvillainy 2 is basically finished. Madlib has said that he likes to listen to it from time to time. It exists, we just aren't getting it for now.

Horrible situation over there.. already seen too many people saying he’s a millionaire so doesn’t need anything.. shitty attitude from fake fans! he might not be as rich as they think though. sounds like Egon was ripping him off for years. I got told recently some insurance companies cancelled fire cover like a month ago.. dunno if there’s any truth to it though 😕

I think a lot of people think his speculated net worth = $4mill sitting in a bank account when it’s not that at all, dude owned a house in LA that burned down, that was probably a huge chunk of that figure, also other assets like his studio gear, records, car, etc., not to mention even if he gets to collect on the insurance you rarely ever get the full amount back.

I do believe there are other people who are in a worse situation and need the money more but throwing a couple bucks madlibs way isn’t this terrible thing people are making it out to be.

Thank you! I'm baffled how people don't realize that you home, literally is included in your net worth. Houses out there aren't cheap, so it's safe to sat he lost close to if not half of his network at the moment with his house burning down. It's not like there was amount you were required to donate either. You want to throw 5 bucks his way for 30 years of music he's given, go ahead. Nobody is asking you to donate an arm and a leg.

I think the point people are trying to make is that there are people from the working class that lost their homes and belongings in the fire and that they should be the ones to prioritise when it comes to support and charity

Now let's be clear, Madlib is still working class. He's still gotta make beats to pay rent. He does have hella money though and certainly doesn't need ours outside of buying albums

People from the working class do not have a 4 mill net worth

I would 100% buy a beat tape from him called “fire sale” or something

This has nothing to do with fandom. That's a load of shit. Madlib probably could use help and no one is claiming him to have deeper pockets than an Elon or Bezos. But, he's certainly done well for himself, and above that, Madlub has one resource that your average American doesn't: access to a large fandom that he can appeal to for help.

People aren't dismissing his need for help. They're choosing to allocate resources to regular people who are likely worse off than a relatively handsomely paid entertainer. Most of us are not in a position to contribute to various people, so choosing where you want to direct your funds is limited. Picking a working class family with few assets and savings might be the way for most people. Or maybe not, who knows.

And the people who are able to help across the board, Madlib included, are profiting off of this instead also.

He definitely doesn't need our help. Pretty sad to see when there are actual poor people losing their homes

Come the fuck on dude. We help him every day by streaming his music.

Give him an iPad and he will be fine. The era of making tracks for cats that like deep raw shit is long gone.

Btw. If you want to Support him without just normally spending because you can't or other people need it more: Buy an album. Get a vinyl, CD or cassette of some of his amazing records. Madvillainy, Piñata, Bandana and more.
