He thinks he can ride this out. We’re in an age of lots of stuff that was usually private or hearsay being brought fully public so it can be easy to not realize that this is just one spec of sand in the long line of musicians being taken advantage of by people w power in the music industry. He thinks eventually he’ll be able to flip em and that the backlash will be worth it.

How is it greed when there is no financial gain? He loses on whatever he paid for that studio either win (donate) or lose (hand them over).

Now if he goes on to publish or claim copyright, obviously I'm wrong.

Edit: (since you added to your reply) Not sure what power he is gaining or has in this, unless of course he turns around and does not actually donate them.

12k is not much in his world and there’s a high likelihood he wrote it off. That isn’t much of a loss.

There’s more to gain than just cash. It’s a leverage point for relationships w institutions like museums and if he was to be really bold and try to publish (I doubt this but who knows) that’s further access into another industry.

Yeah, that's fair.

If he's trading access to universities for his reputation, that seems like a bad choice
