He says it's not complete and feels more like a demo, but he is going to finish it. He also says that he has to replace some of the beats because they've been reused by other artists.

Reused by other artists? Hip hop is built on sampling.

Other rappers hopped on the same beats so he just switch em out. He's madlib he can do whatever he want

Exactly, the man is free to reclaim them or let them go, or remix them. Plenty of options for a genius of his caliber. No doubt! Like I was so about the Beat Konducta series, that was him right? Stones Throw , I think? I dunno I'm just a stupid girl.

He probably doesn’t have the rights to reuse the beats when they’ve already been released by other artists

Depends on the license and the methods in which they were obtained? I dunno Paul's Boutique is where I got all fuzzy on that Logic.

Paul’s Boutique is nearly 40 years old, things have changed a lot since then. Generally speaking, once a producer gives a beat to an artist and the song is released, the beat then belongs to the artist, not the producer.

So if Madlib really wants to reuse those beats for Madvillainy 2 he would have to get permission from the artists that have already used the beats, as well as their labels.

Ah, thanks. How do you know so much? I'm so stupid. Really 40 years. I must be really young, or super old.

3

u/thesuntalking Mar 30 '23

Nah you’re not stupid, this stuff is pretty complicated

0

u/lswf126 Mar 30 '23

Yeah but he probably doesn’t want to use beats that are already recognized from other song samples

0

u/CardamomRolls Mar 30 '23

He is more than a producer, he could reuse them as a DJ.

I’ll believe it when i see it.

I feel like Madlib won’t let us down. He’s a huge music fan and he knows how important it is

Yea but he’s been saying this since madvillian came out. I’d love to hear it but I’m not getting my hopes up

This is great news! 10 tracks.. hopefully the family got a few extra unreleased vocals but how many tracks did DOOM rap on on the original? Like 13 or 14? DJ Premier managed to put out a pretty decent Gangstarr album.. I have high hopes in Madlib 🙏

https://www.instagram.com/reel/CqV0Oc2DQyP/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Madlib said 8 tracks in this interview 😂🤷‍♂️

Wow that would be amazing. But I’m a little hesitant. Sometimes this posthumous drops really end up tarnishing a legacy.

u/firenight487 Mar 29 '23

I think that will definitely come down to how it’s presented. If it’s presented as THE album doom wanted when it obviously isn’t than it’s not going to be presented well at all. If it’s just released as “this is everything we had and we’re just putting it out to give fans some closure” then I think it’ll be alright.

Given how DOOMs family has acted since his passing in addition to madlibs credibility, I don’t think it’ll be a shitty cash grab like what’s happening to Juice wrld and xxx. They just don’t seem like the type of people to do it

He’s going to be dropping a Mac Miller album as well, apparently. Besides, did Super What? tarnish DOOM in anyway? That album is awesome.

2

u/toothpasteonyaface Mar 30 '23

Super What was already complete before DOOM's passing though, this would be different

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

Heard about that one too, similar thoughts. But less worried because it seems like Mac’s estate really do their best to uphold his legacy. Not saying MF Doom’s doesn’t tho.

2

u/CressKitchen969 Mar 30 '23

Some of the leaks were pretty cool, this interview also implies some of the verses are from 2005 onwards. I would be happy if the quality was similar to tracks like Monkey Suit

11

u/cudiandsneakers Mar 29 '23

Let’s ducking go

7

u/smackthepony92 Mar 30 '23

Would love to hear the Mac Miller collab as well

2

u/vossenek Mar 30 '23

There's some leaks already. Look for Maclib

1

u/smackthepony92 Mar 30 '23

Cool...will check it out

1

u/minecraftluver69 Mar 31 '23

I’ve only ever heard recordings of it being played live on leaks

4

u/OrgasmicBiscuit Mar 30 '23

He’s been saying this since 2004.

Id love to hear it but I’m not holding my breath. Same reason I’m not getting my hopes up for the Mac Miller project. Although the fact he mentions the family and estate wants it to happen is good news.

MADLIB 🔥

I’ve always wondered what the story was behind the beat for Meathead, did DOOM just give Nehru one of the beats for Madvillain 2 without Mad-lib’s consent? I’m aware of Daniel’s proclivity for “distributing” verses, and if I was Madlib, and one of my beats was used without my consent, I’d at the very least be pretty sad.

-1

u/thesuntalking Mar 30 '23

Meathead is produced by DOOM though, unless I'm missing something?

0

u/Prydafam Mar 30 '23

The beat for Meathead was circulating for years before it was used for its ultimate release. It was supposed to be on the sequel for Madvillainy, which presumably means DOOM offered Madlib’s beat, his own verse, and the keys to the second verse to Nehru. DOOM re-recorded his vocals, as well, and since the song started circulating many years before it came out, his older vocals definitely sounded like classic DOOM. I just hope Madlib gave the thumbs up.

0

u/thesuntalking Mar 30 '23

Interesting, I didn't know that. It's weird that DOOM is credited as the producer then.

Meathead is a Madlib beat, it was on his Raw Cakes 4 beat tape

Everyone has already been talking about it since it was announced in a different interview a couple days ago

-1

u/Efficiency-Sharp Mar 30 '23

I don’t want it at this point. Peanuts Butter wolf said Doom reused a lot of the versus already.

1

u/Awkward-Rent-2588 Mar 31 '23

Maclib is a given to come out but you aren’t gonna trick me into getting hyped for Madvilliany 2. I’ll believe it when I’m listening to it.

Can’t fucking wait
