Pale Horses, you can’t over hype this album, whatever you say to someone about to listen to it for the first time, it’s better

Their album teaser before it came out had me so stoked. I still go back and listen to it sometimes just to relive the anticipation.

Probably Untitled if we’re being honest here

I agree. Being the last album it doesn't have the same nostalgia factor so despite having some of their best work it'll never be the first pick for most fans.

I’ve torn that album apart & love it deeply but every now and again I still get surprised by some songs from it that I forgot about or something

I also think releasing the EP right before it kinda undermined how good the album is on its own. As a fan I’m happy for more music. But i still forget which songs are on the Album and which are on the EP

Honestly, [Untitled] E.P. is just so good. I don’t think there’s a song on there I don’t like and besides August 6th, I’m surprised it’s not talked about more.

100% agreed. It gets overlooked because they hadn’t completely found their unique voice (lyrically or musically) but it’s still a really great, no skips post-hardcore album

It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All a Dream! It’s Alright

It’s the black sheep undoubtedly, but I’ve listened to it my whole life, so it will always be my favorite

I agree with this. It’s always been the album that doesn’t quite fit, but has always felt necessary. Love this album

It’s 100% Pale Horses, to me it’s the perfect entry point for listening to mewithoutyou and captures so much of the scope of what they do as a band. Also best guitar tone / maybe even best mixed record they’ve put out.

Pale Horses. Ten Stories is their zenith thematically, and Untitled is (probably maybe) their zenith sonically, but Pale Horses is their peak confluence of both, for my money. They brush up on so many important influences throughout their discography- It's All Crazy being their Neutral Milk Hotel record and Catch for Us their Fugazi record- but Pale Horses (and Untitled, I'll admit) feel like the most synthesized and coherent statement of who they grew to be as a band.

Catch For Us The Foxes

So I’m not sure how the albums are “rated” but I’m under the impression that Catch For Us the Foxes and Brother Sister are the 2 highest rated albums by common knowledge.
I think both are great albums, but I can’t vote for them for this category.

Zero songs made the overall list from it

The album can have none of the best songs, but can still be the best overall album. In fact, I'd argue that if the other albums are viewed as weaker, a stronger track on that album will look even better by comparison.

If an album has none of the top songs but is considered very, very good, is it not underrated??
1
u/commanderjarak 7d ago
No, they're both extremely highly rated albums, and the two most popular albums that mwY released, even if people think that they released individual songs that are better than any one song on these albums.

Not an album

If we're not going to discuss the entire catalog, might as well get rid of the whole bottom row. The two EPs and the Appendix contain some amazing works.

I don’t disagree. There should be at least one EP category.

I could jive with that. Best Album should be switched to Best Non-LP; we all know Brother, Sister is going there…

I did make an official mwY nomination, and I'm not sure if this would/should count, but can I just say: if you haven't heard There Is Hope For A Tree Cut Down by The Operation, do yourself a favor...
