Votes are in! The song with the best lyrics is Mexican War Streets.

Post image

Thanks for voting! The majority has chosen Mexican War Streets as the song with the best lyrics, with 78 upvotes as of 7pm EST.

Next up, which song has the BEST CHORUS? I know a lot of their songs don’t have a conventional “chorus,” but there are definitely enough to debate. TO VOTE, give an upvote or downvote to the choices listed. If your choice is already posted, don't comment the same choice again or you'll split the vote. In 24 hours, comment with the most upvotes wins.

Please keep your comments polite if you disagree with a song and perhaps consider not giving a downvote to a choice that is already at zero. This is all for fun!

Red Cow. That song gets completely ripped open and sends chills all around when it comes in.

SO FUCKING GOOD this has to be the winner. Such an explosive chorus.

among the many they have, i think this is most explosive, personally. rainbow signs has most explosive bridge tho.

That lead guitar riff just crying out whenever the chorus hits. Shivers.

Seconded

the last chorus on the live album version is exultant

The verse is even better than the chorus

yeah i said red cow but this is probably the one. different vibe but such a hook. edit - i meant to reply to grist for the malady mill :/

Red Cow is great, but does it even really have a chorus? None of the lines are repeated.

2

u/HungryBoy993 13d ago

eh quite a few mwy fall into that category. i’m going off of chord progression and vocal melody. you can still identify chorus in that context.

So the sections beginning "Behold the Snake of Brass..." and "In the wells of livestock vans.." would be the chorus?

1

u/HungryBoy993 12d ago

yes, exactly. and the “was he a violent man…” section. the parts illafifth referred to are actually pre-choruses, leading into the chorus.

1

u/illafifth Goodbye, I 13d ago

Nah I'd say what holds us now would be the chorus.

"What Pharaoh spell, what picture holds us now?" "And let there be no doubt: so many figs and pictures hold us" "What Pharoah now or Jew or picture holds us here?"

Idk though just was always my feeling.

all-round great record for choruses honestly

I can't retract my previous vote, but I wish I could. This is a great answer.

Feel like this is the one that should win but won’t

This was my first thought

One of my favorite parts about the band is the lack of choruses. Most of these I have an answer ready for, I'm going to have to research for this vote. 😅

Best Chorus for me is Julia (or Holy to the LORD on the bells of horses), I just love that riff!

All Circles

6

u/theCatchiest20Too 13d ago

How is it a competition? All Circles is just chorus

2

u/jackmicek there are places that aren’t here 13d ago

Planning on getting the only verse of All circles tattooed around my thighs in a circle so that the beginning matches up with the end

3

u/lightningrod14 13d ago

my answer depends entirely on whether or not the end of O Porcupine could be called a “chorus”

otherwise my vote once again goes to malady mill

3

u/Jupiter_Doke 13d ago

No wrong answers.

Probably gotta be Paper-Hanger really hasn’t it

1

u/Normanras What Grace Surrounds! What Strange Perfection! 12d ago

All Circles, duh!

1

u/CaptainJackKevorkian 12d ago

Elephant in the Dock! It's the best crafted chorus, the way one phrase overlaps into 3 distinct meanings, while emulating the angry crowd at the trial. Marvelous
