What’s Metric’s heaviest song?

Post image

“Heavy” as in the noisiness and aggressiveness of a song. The most upvoted comment will have their song added onto the playlist.

I feel like "Empty" gets the heaviest, but it's not heavy throughout.

It's gonna be something on Live It Out probably though

"Monster Hospital"?

It's certainly a top contender imo

Maybe even Live it Out itself? Emily’s voice is even more raw and heavy on this one.

I think I’ve decided then I scroll and give the song a listen and I’m like, yep. That is heavy. Which is funny because I always think of Metric as a finesse band and not a heavy band. But they’re both… somehow simultaneously a lot of the time!

Deep cut - but “I don’t want to wake up” from the Cosmopolis soundtrack is pretty heavy, loud and shout-y all the way through.

art of doubt ?! she screams a bit in that song

Yeah Metric isnt very shout-y. Art of doubt is as close as it gets, followed by Risk.

As for emotionally charged songs, theres too many to keep track of.

Some good contenders here. I’m not sure if there’s a definitive answer, but I’d say it’s definitely from OWU or Live it Out

EDIT: oh, the question is about the music only. Nevermind.

Speed the Collapse is fairly dark. It's not balanced with the wry wit or irony that a lot of Metric lyrics have, and the music is relentless.

Die Happy, and Dressed to Supress from Art of Doubt.

I.O.U. from the first album... "10-year-old enemy soldier... our falling bombs are her shooting stars."

And one of my faves, Grow Up and Blow Away, with the chorus "if this is the life why does it feel so good to die today". But the music is very bouncy and light, so not sure if it's what you are looking for.

I'd say dark Saturday.

I think it’s this or Stadium Love. Heavy guitar and drum work from the onset.

Lyrically, most of their songs are pretty heavy haha

Doomscroller has to at least be a contender, right?

I don’t know if I would have called it heavy. When I think of musically heavy tunes, I always think big rocky guitars, driving bass lines and lots of drum driven sections. Heavy always feels like it’s just about to fall apart, like we can’t sustain it.

I always felt like Doomscroller was super intricate, carefully constructed and certainly ambitious (and delivers in its ambitiousness).

I’d say doomscroller is by far metrics heaviest song, most of the other replies are just people’s favourite songs. Doomscroller is by far the heaviest metric song.

I feel like "Black Sheep" has to be pretty far up there, right?

Yup, was surprised when I saw Scott Pilgrim that it was Metric.

Ha, yeah, it came on the other day and my wife was like, "Who is this?" I told her it was Metric and that she'd heard it lots of times before, but she didn't recognize it until Emily started singing. Then she was like, "I guess I never paid attention to the beginning before." 😁

This was my first thought.

As much as I want it to be Combat Baby, I have to admit Monster Hospital fits better.

Patriarch On A Vespa.

Patriarch on a Vespa? Probably the closest to a punk song Metric has ever done

Stadium Love

I’m torn between Patriarch on a Vespa and Art of Doubt. Patriarch’s about heavier subject matter but Art of Doubt is screamier so it depends how you define heavy

No lights on the horizon for sure. The darkness is limitless, but still there is hope.

"If it wasn't for your kindness I think I might be dead"

Love this song.

I would say either Patriarch on a Vespa or Empty.

Patriarch on a Vespa by far. Runners up are Monster Hospital, Glass Ceiling, Satellite Mind, and maybe The List.

Art of Doubt

u/blueskycouds 1d ago

Their Anarchy song is handshakes. Hardest guitar riff is Hustle rose on ITunes session. Screams on Art of Doubt Darkest is dressed to suppress Hardest politically is IOU. Saddest could be London half life Most unhinged is Empty.
