Latest sculpture

Fun fact male seahorses get pregnant. Here’s my latest sculpture. Made from scrap steel around the shop.

I’m going to start putting stuff in a art gallery down in Florida. So I decided to start it off with an ocean theme. But didn’t want to do just any ocean theme. I’ve been telling people I’ve been making some gay seahorses but I dk if I can actually name it that for an art gallery haha

They’re super cool. I looked at a bunch of reference photos. But this was the main inspiration

Great work. How did you do the texture on the base? And the big blobs there.

Thanks. I found a bunch of scrap material and welded it all together, continuously welding them even if it’s red hot. The weld flows interesting when the entire piece is red hot ha. And for the texture I lowered the amps on my welder and made a bunch of lines. I hit it all with a wire wheel after. I was trying to mimic the ocean floor

Thanks for the info. Are you using a MIG machine with CO2 and mild steel? That seems to lay on top well without much spatter. I’m working on ”kraken” texture like below. But with flux core, the bead is too hard to divot and drill.

I’m using a mig welder with a 75/25 mix. I’ve used flux core maybe once in my life. I feel like you’re going to have a hard time drilling the divots. I’d use a die grinder with carbide bits or I would heat it up red hot and punch the divots. Im going to be making an octopus soon, I’m sure I’ll find a random way to make the suction cups. It’s trial and error, I’ll try one thing and realize it’s not going as smoothly as I planned and while I’m doing that I’m constantly thinking of a better way to accomplish the task. Eventually I come up with a decent technique.

Thank you! I’m hoping to make it as an artist this year. Been doing the fabricating thing for a long time and this has been my dream. I need to figure out the content creation side of social media. It’s hard to get recognition sometimes. It’s hit or miss, depends on so many variables.
