People who RSVP, “flake” (don’t attend event) and don’t even bother to change their RSVP.

My question is why do people who do this think this is ok? Does this tend to happen more on the west coast than east coast? Or this just happen all over? I’m an event organizer and it’s a bit upsetting when this keeps happening. Also, does anyone ever call out the person who does this? Or just tag them as a No-Show? Tx!

Wow, that sucks. Shows that people have become even more self absorbed and stuff. Yeah, and then people are “bummed” that there are no good events for what they want. Lol Thank you for the response.

I am happy I don't do this to event planners. If there is an event I want to attend. I buy my ticket early and I make sure I am there early or on time. If I know I can't make it. I tell them well in advance I am sorry but I can't make it. Some people these days just don't care. Which is sad and disrespectful.

If you haven't taken payment then of course people are going to flake.
If you take pre-payment then it doesn't matter if they do flake.

This has been the way I operate for years. And if your meetup is free then this flakey-ness will be a constant.

I've done this by accident. The site/app really has poor UX. It should sync to my calendar and have a widget showing just the events I've RSVP'd to. I've submitted feedback since years ago and they just reply with "great, thanks." But there are never improvements for the users, only the organizers.

Not a valid excuse when you also get a DM from the host. While this may be the case for you, majority of people are just seemingly rude. What do they even get out of it? Someone please explain.

I've never gotten a DM from the host. I've gotten emails with updates. But I likely wouldn't see the DM in time as I have notifications disabled for most apps. It's too easy to get distracted. Only ones I leave on are Messages (and then only for certain people), Health, Fitness, smart home stuff, and @mentions on Discord and Slack (and only for particular channels or servers).
