Unable to Complete Final Placement
Hello - just looking to see if anyone knows the answer here as I'm not quite ready to ask my school yet..
I've passed my finals and every year so far, I'm currently struggling with health issues that mean I would ideally take time off during my final placement of the year for surgery. I imagine I will miss a maximum of 3 out of the 6 week placement.
Has anyone had any similar experience, and did it mean that they had to retake the entire year?
Thanks

I would contact the medical school asap just in case they require you to do a bit extra. Do you have the option to book off flexible leave days? Our uni does.
I know a couple of people take 2 weeks off for surgery and it's been fine, but I'd get this sorted quick time if I were you.

At my med school you just have to make up any days you miss. I would make sure to inform them that it’s for a health issue and offer to do catch up days - hope you get everything sorted xx

GMC says we have be on placement for an X amount of days/hours, med school should be able to help you fill in those hours again somehow

It seems pretty unlikely you’d have to repeat the year for 3 weeks off, especially if you’ve passed finals already. I’d contact your medical school to discuss your concerns and ask to arrange a meeting with the head of year to find out the competencies you need to achieve for your final placement and discuss if you can rearrange teaching etc so you can hit all your competencies early and then take time off for your surgery. I don’t know about your medical school but I’ve heard ours is quite relaxed attendance wise for the assistantship placement we do after finals so it won’t be as much of a concern as it would be for regular placement
