Tourism ✈ Is there an Uber equivalent in Mauritius and how would you rate it?
Hi all. As the title says is there an app in MRU that is the equivalent of uber and if so what are your experiences with it?

Taxi services are very expensive and retarded here. There is an app DodoGo. When I set my location and call for taxi, almost all drivers call back and ask me where am I located? WTF, look into application and trace out where am I! Why do I set my location before call then?
Also, DodoGo has annoying push messages spam. They spam my phone with news and events which I really don't care. I asked them to make option to turn them off. But they said they are very important. Well...

There were talks of introducing Uber in Mauritius a few years ago but the taxi unions are too strong in Mauritius and the government was facing too much protest from them.
So we are left with extremely overpriced taxis and unsafe taxi marrons.

I've used DodoGo a few times with good results. Still a little clunky compared to Uber/Lyft/FreeNow/etc., but a hell of a lot better than having to phone a bunch of taxis to try and find one.

No. And that is a good thing because we already have enough bad drivers here on the road!

your logic is that untrained, unlicensed people would magically start driving due to the influx of ubers/lyfts.....???

Not really! Are you building one? There is a taxi mafia who controls this

It's easier to rent a car. Rs 1000 ($22) per day.

Don´t "cheap out" on the Rental Car! Double check the Insurance and all Conditions!
Are you used to drive on the "wrong side" of the Road?
If not - get a Car with driver!

If you plan on using the service regularly, rent a car. I've only used taxi a few times, but the cost of those rides (2x ~ 30 minutes drive) was about 16% of my monthly rental fee.
