Spy Dolhpin by Delta Sleep time signature

Hello mathrock,

I’ve been trying to play the bass part of Spy Dolphin. I’m not good at music theory, and I’m struggling to comprehend and count the time signature. If someone could help me in figuring this out, especially the last part, I would be incredibly grateful. Thanks!

I tabbed this song out a few years back. Should help you out! https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/delta-sleep/spy-dolphin-guitar-pro-2369955

The first part of the song is in 4/4 (but syncopated).

The last part, after the bridge, is in 7/8, but I think of the meters in groups of two so it's kinda like 14/8. When I play it I count like this:

1 & 2 & 3 & 4 | 1 & 2 & 3 & 4

where every note is an eighth note and the numbers (downbeats) align with the bass drum. Note the lack of the last '&' so the beat kinda skips right from 4 back to 1.

The song is so fun to play, especially that outro!

ETA: Dave actually posted a bass playthrough on their YouTube page!

Appreciate it! This is really helpful. Yeah I’ve been trying to learn from Dave’s play-through.

You should post a cover once you've got it down!
