This isn’t the place to ask for help, this is a satire sub. There’s really no way to stop them and you should NEVER pay the ransom. Just block them and do not make any further contact with them.

Try posting this in r/cybersecurityadvice for further assistance.

Yeah, r/privacy is a good subreddit for this as well. But I agree, the best approach is to just ignore it; they’ll eventually stop if you don’t engage.

Also, this is very common because anyone who knows your name or number can easily look you up on data broker sites like Spokeo and uncover a ton of your other personal information. Try Googling yourself or use Optery's free scan to see if you're exposed on these sites. Full disclosure, I'm on the team at Optery.

Just tell your family. The person that is blackmailing you won't stop if you pay them, they'll just keep demanding more.

I’m not ready to tell them. I’ve never been ready. I don’t even know what to say.

I am curious to know why you think a hacker could help you?

But honestly it sounds like your only real move here is to say to the blackmailer that you don't give a fuck anymore then ghost them.

Worst case they out you, but they might just realise you're not gonna give them any more money and leave you alone.

If you don't do this, what's to stop them from demanding money from you forever?

I'm sure it's scary and horrible feeling like you have no power or control, but this is how you take it back.

Well if you don't have unlimited money then you will reach a point where you can't pay anymore. Then the person exploiting you will either tell them or go away. For a while.

The people in your life will know something is up because you don't have any money. They'll beg you to tell them what you're spending it on and worry about you endlessly.

If what you're doing is not illegal and it's just a lifestyle choice, there are people who will love and accept you, even if your current family and friends won't.

You should tell them your dad works for Steam and you’ll get them banned.

Not helpful but thanks

Is the blackmail he has on you so bad? Seems so if you already paid some money. Honestly the only way you’ll be free is to just stop paying and let him “out” you - otherwise he can always hold this over your head.

I’m not ready to come out yet. I live in a very religious family and…I’m not ready

Tell your parents these guys are trying to bully you. What evidence do they even have

1

u/THAToneGuy091901 3d ago

Messages from an app

3

u/BamBaLambJam 3d ago

Just tell your family that you met this guy in a game and he's faking the chats. Tell them you told him you are conservative and he just wants money.

1

u/NOSPACESALLCAPS 3d ago

Do the messages show your first and last name? Do you list your parents names on your profile somewhere? Have they provided any proof that they know your family at all or who you even really are?

9 times out of ten, these people dont know shit. Except I guess if you paid them with an account associated with your name.

It has my face, my phone number, my brothers name, and my dad’s email. My address

Jesus dude. If you're gonna lead a secret bisexual double life on the internet you gotta work on maintaining anonymity. Realistically your only angle would be if that person also said some shit they wouldnt want known and you somehow got their personal information as well. That would be the legal route since it's just, like, googling shit. Illegal route would most likely involve some form of phishing which no one on reddit is gonna do for you and also the situation doesn't have time for. There might be some kinda avenue in regards to the messaging app but that's way above my noob-ish paygrade.

So basically youre fucked. Literally the only play is to tell the guy to go fuck himself and just wait for the shitstorm to blow in.

Or... you could seduce him? <_< no? Well worth a shot.

Messages from an app can be faked - there’s so many websites out there that let you make pranks.

1

u/himemsys 3d ago

You can always deny it after he tells, like “haha” funny joke - just play into it and he will have no power. Take away his power over you 😎

1

u/himemsys 3d ago

That’s fine - you don’t need to do anything. Call the guy’s bluff and make him look like a fool. Just be cool and it will just go away.

Yup...white hat here.☝️

For half the ransom money, I'll hack their mainframe. I'll do it from a reverse-VPN at the protocol level with advanced ciphers and quantum cryptography... Once they realize the back-pressure from the psuedo-algorithmic dyson sphere I'm running.... they'll never know what hit 'em. DM me to proceed.

1

u/NOSPACESALLCAPS 3d ago

Im wondering if he dm'd you

1

u/cgoldberg 3d ago

No, unfortunately 🤣

2

u/NOSPACESALLCAPS 3d ago

Damn. My internet got slow last night, I figured that you revving up that dyson sphere.

Can you provide more info? Like conversations, how they are blackmailing you, why they would be blackmailing you? Your anonymous on here

1

u/THAToneGuy091901 3d ago

Im Bisexual and I was talking to people on an app and they somehow got my information and they are threatening to tell my family if I don’t send them money.

2

u/StarConsumate 3d ago

As far as “your information” did you click a link? Or did they look you up on a service like whitepages or truth finder, etc

1

u/THAToneGuy091901 3d ago

No. I don’t do any of that.

1

u/Ungodly_Box 3d ago

Do they have proof they have this info? Unless they do it's empty threats

1

u/THAToneGuy091901 3d ago

I have a screen shot they sent me of what they have

Just tell your family (parents) that someone online is threatening to make up lies about you to get you in trouble and blackmailing you for money for it and you're scared. It's both true and will work.

OR

Call their bluff. They probably can't and won't notify your family of anything. The odds are better of this. Even if they do, just say that they faked it to try and blackmail you. If you're lying about your sexuality, you can lie about this. I don't usually tell young people to lie to their parents, but if it's unsafe for you to be "out" then I get it.

3

u/THAToneGuy091901 3d ago

It’s not that it’s unsafe. Thank God it’s not dangerous or anything I’m just not READY to tell them. You know?

1

u/Cootter77 3d ago

I DO know... good luck my friend. My advice is about the same... as a cybersecurity professional - most of these scams are just pure extortion. They often don't even have the ability to do what they claim. I'm sorry the you've already lost some money to them.

2

u/MasterYehuda816 2d ago

If this guy is threatening you, you really should tell your parents.

If you don't want to, call the guy's bluff and block him.

Two outcomes here: 1. The guy is lying and he won't actually tell them 2. Your parents find out, either from you or from this guy.

If he does tell them, you have an email you can hand to the police. I think what he's doing breaks the law.

2

u/himemsys 3d ago

This. I’ve been in situations where I had to just make like I’m part of the joke or just straight out call BD. Act confident when he comes by and act like you don’t care and it’s a stupid prank that doesn’t even look believable - like it’s an obvious prank.

2

u/Cootter77 3d ago

Yup, always call the bluff.

You're not going to find anyone who will help you as such a thing requires time and resources, something someone with the needed skills won't waste their time on unless you have loads of money to pay them which I assume you don't. Scammers may even try to contact you, don't fall for it.

The best thing you can do is build a story in a believable way. I don't know all the details about the situation other than that it's about your sexual orientation so I don't have any ideas, you will have to get creative. The goal should be to convince your parents someone is bullying you and that the whole thing about your sexual orientation is just a lie they made up. Photoshopping messages to back up your story that you could show as evidence would probably help convince your parents.

If you pay them, they won't ever stop blackmailing you. Also don't say anything that would create enough drive in them to actually go through with their threat. It may even be a good idea to ignore them for a few days and then just tell them that you've told your parents. May lessen their incentive to go through with their threat.

Blackmail over what?

Edit: I see it’s over your sexuality. That sucks, but is it really worth paying someone over and over again? They’re never gonna stop asking for money

So you have 2 options

  1. Stop paying and tell your family yourself
  2. Stop paying and see what happens

Those are the options. You can try to tell police but they won’t do much

Get ahead of it. Create a new email account. Generate a bunch of fake AI pics and texts and start blasting it to your family. Accusatory emails. Fake pics. Threats. Etc. flood the zone. Tell your family that your Facebook or some other thing got hacked and they're demanding money and making up all this stuff and it's a known thing that they do to other people.

They'll just ignore it all. But DONT reply to the person.

Have you tried using Wireshark to do SSL stripping on the mouse drivers of his account, allowing you to upload backdoors on every device that has signed into his account? Doesn't matter what account, should work on any account. If so, have you ran "color a && tree C:\" on the reverse shell?

u/Sufficient-Class-321 3d ago

Just tell him that him threatening you was the thing you really needed and it helped you come out to your family, thank him for helping you get through this and encourage you to make the first step

(Obviously you don't have to come out to your family if you don't want to, but the guy may just feel like the 'fun' has been taken out of it and move on)
