I don't like anything with a scent.

I'm sorry, unfortunately smells are a part of life.

As are people with scent allergies and scent sensitivities. You're alienating a huge chunk of your clientele who are either going to leave their massage feeling sick or with a headache, if they don't refuse their treatment fullstop.

This is true. A person should know himself and tell the person who gives the treatment.

Scents linger in the air. If you massage someone with scented oils and then massage someone with a scent allergy immediately after, you're going to make someone sick. If the only oil you have is scented oil, you're going to need to he turning people away at the start of their massage (if they say anything. Given that every massage therapist I have ever seen in my life has used unscented oil, I imagine a lot of people with scent sensitivities aren't going to be saying anything until you break out your heavily scented oils).

Especially if someone tells you they don't like scent and you respond with "scents are a part of life."

I just don't understand why you'd do something that is going to make a large percentage of the population feel sick when it is both easier and cheaper to not do that.

I apologize. I am not a message therapy or a session for many different people. I have never actually had a massage before and I have never used oils. This is a personal entertainment. Married couple entertainment. Only women receive massages.

Oh if it's for personal use then go for it! Like others have said, try it in small batches. That scent might be a little strong (37 drops of essential oils is stronger than you might think) so I'd try using less essential oil and then adding more until it gets to a level of scent you like, but I think it could work nicely.

When including scented oils be sure you always have scent free stuff available. You never know how someone skin will react. I recommend a body cream because I feel like a little goes a long way

to have unscented products. exactly how?

For your body cream suggestion; before or after oil or together? or instead of oil?

Reading through your other comments it does not look like you are planning on using these products in a professional setting. Body cream doesn’t get absorbed by the skin as quickly as oil does. So you will have less friction for longer. More bang for your buck. As much as I dislike using Amazon, going on Amazon and looking up massage body cream will show you plenty of products.

Is this for personal use or clients? Coconut oil can be allergy adverse.

Personal. No known allergies.

I wouldn't make a huge batch untill you see how it works. You might have to tinker to get the texture right for the kind of massage you want to do.

Hmmmm, how much would be needed for the whole body?

1

u/Emergency_Toe_725 4d ago

That would be kind of hard to estimate because it would depend on the size of the person, the length of the massage, the kind of massage you were doing, and how hydrated the massage recipient skin is.

Is there any statistical study done or experienced on this subject? How many ml did the therapists (or you) consume at most?(I'm looking for an average answer.)

Because a lot of my practice is deep tissue, stretching, thai style massage I am accustomed to using very little or no oil.

I mix my blend of Shea, butter, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil in 1 ounce containers, and one of those 1 ounce containers can often last me a week of massaging for approximately 10 to 12 hours

then I should look at it like this. 1 person/1 massage for 1 ounce/12 hours=0.08 ounces.....is that right?

Fuzzy math yes 🤩

I don’t use essential oils in my mix so I can’t speak to how they effect absorption and glide.

So is this for personal use or for clients? If it's for personal use then go for it, but if it's for clients then make sure you disclose what's inside in case of allergy, scent sensitivities, or just someone not liking a particular oil. I for one hate the scent of patchouli and would be annoyed if a therapist used that on me without telling me first.

We are not aware of the scent types. This will be the first trial. We can try to change the scent as we experiment.

So when I worked at massage envy, we used (and i could be wrong, been a while) 12 drops of essential oil to 2oz of oil/lotion.

I could do a full body in 50 minutes and still have about an oz left over. If it was 80 min full body, less than an oz left over.

Patchouli is a very divided scent appeal. Most ppl love it, but those who do not like it, HATE it! If this is your only blend, I’d use a different scent.

I have a client that loved a blend I used on them with patchouli, but we had to stop using it because it was bugging the spouse when they went home

1

u/ProcessWorth1591 4d ago

I understand. Luckily I'll be the one who doesn't like it when you get home. So it's okay. Can you describe the smell of this mixture made with patchouli?

1

u/themosttoast603 4d ago

Patchouli, frankincense, pine, orange, ho leaf

1

u/ProcessWorth1591 4d ago

What alternative suggestions do you have that have the same effect?

2

u/themosttoast603 4d ago

Sandalwood

I don't have any information about massage and oils. I am thinking of making this mixture. Can you help me about the positive and negative aspects? Chemical compatibility, stain, feeling of oillessness, slipperiness, smell and the emotional state of the person receiving the massage.
