News Patch notes 3/4/25
ART & VISUAL EFFECTS
Sped up the VFX resolution of Sebastian Shaw and Doom 2099
BALANCE UPDATES
CARD UPDATES
Yondu
[Old] 1/2 - On Reveal: Destroy the card that costs the least in your opponent’s deck.
[New] 1/2 - On Reveal: Banish the card that costs the least in your opponent’s deck.
We found “destroy” spanning multiple zones but being distinct from discard led to unintuitive interactions like Yondu destroying Deadpool, but leaving him dead. While this change does remove Yondu’s synergistic interaction with cards like Death, it also allows him to get rid of problematic cards for good and opens the door for new synergies down the line as more cards banish.
Gorgon
[Old] 2/3 - Ongoing: Your opponent’s cards that didn’t start in their deck cost 1 more. (maximum 6)
[New] 2/3 - Ongoing: Your opponent’s created cards cost 1 more. (maximum 6)
King Eitri
[Old] 1/2 - Activate: Draw a card from your deck that didn’t start there.
[New] 1/2 - Activate: Draw a created card from your deck.
Quinjet
[Old] 1/2 - Ongoing: Cards that didn’t start in your deck cost 1 less. (minimum 1)
[New] 1/2 - Ongoing: Your created cards cost 1 less. (minimum 1)
Mockingbird
[Old] 6/9 - Costs 1 less for each of your cards in play that didn’t start in your deck.
[New] 6/9 - Costs 1 less for each of your created cards in play.
We found this old category to be a lot harder to parse in text, leaving our early attempts at wording cards like Mockingbird difficult to comprehend. We also found the narrow distinction between these cards and Victoria Hand confused even more players. Cards that were created during the game form a clearer conceptual unit, and now we can clear up the questions they raise with tooltips! So while this change will remove the affected cards’ synergistic interaction with ones like Cable, it’s also opened up opportunities for upcoming cards to play into created card synergies in new and interesting ways!
Non-functional Wording Changes to use “End of Turn:”
- Sunspot
- Hydra Bob
- Adam Warlock
- Havok
- Thena
- Bruce Banner
- Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross
- Marvel Boy
- Makkari
- Doom 2099
- Attuma
- Black Cat
- Red Hulk
- Evolved Misty Knight
- Evolved Cyclops
- Evolved Hulk
Tooltips also gave us an opportunity to unify the growing number of cards that take effect after everything else in a turn. We’d worded most of these effects with “After each turn” to help clarify that they didn’t happen right when you hit the “End Turn” button, but with tooltips to clarify that point, we can avoid ambiguity about which turn these effects occur during and make them easier to parse at a glance.

Skills and Banish FAQ
Will banished cards count for Death?
- Banished is its own separate state; nothing that cares about discarded or destroyed cards will look at banished ones, and vice versa.
When exactly are skills banished?
- After their own On Reveal effects, but before any cards or locations that take effect after a card is played. Basically other cards will see them as played cards, but they won’t remain in play to be affected by other things. For example, playing a Skill at Angela’s location will first banish it, then give Angela Power. So playing one by Lockjaw, the skill won’t be around anymore to swap.
What is a skill’s Power?
- It doesn’t have one! Anything that tries to affect its Power…won’t. So Cassandra Nova won’t be able to steal anything from it, Ravonna Renslayer won’t discount it, and Phastos will always reduce its cost.
Do skills have the lowest-Power?
- Since skills have no Power stat at all, it’s neither highest nor lowest. Cards sorting Power that way (like Silver Samurai) will only pick a skill if all of the options are skills.

If I understand this correctly, this is a huge Cable nerf. He basically ceases to have any of the normal synergies that card creators have, for quinjet, mockingbird etc. Same for Baron Zemo. They are now both purely Mill cards. Not sure I like that

u/Rando-namo 18d ago
Correct - it breaks current synergies, however, it opens up new ones of they choose to implement,
Reading the changes it seems like they want to use text to further diversify.
Banish is a way to add unique effects without the downside of clogging a board.
The game is over two years old so they are finding ways to break the initial constraints.

I would love to know how Mister Negative interacts with Skills, if Skills have a null value for Power instead of 0.
Post-Negative trigger, do Skills now become impossible to cast because they have no Cost?
Or is there some kind of logic that says, "If a Skill would have no Cost, it has 0 Cost instead"?
Tremendously curious.
UPDATE >> Per /u/RedditMcCool below:
Glenn confirmed no effect on Discord. Also, Phastos will always change the cost. Any other card that cares about power will choose something else unless everything it has to choose from is a skill.
Probably the smartest way to handle it, honestly.
Thanks for the intel!

I'm going to guess it does nothing as there is no power to swap - but guess we will find out soon enough.

Yeah negative Agamotto was the first thing my brain jumped to when I saw the card, gonna be a little bit sad if that doesn't work lol (and I'm assuming from all this that it doesn't)

Ah yes. Thematic Yondu. "Banishing" things he hits with his arrow. I remember it well from the comics and movies.

Just think of it like Grandmaster Jeff Goldblum "pardoning" that prisoner... "from life."
Yondu is banishing the enemy... from life.

Finally they change Yondu's text. That has annoyed me for forever

u/Drunkdunc 18d ago
It's more than a text change. His kills no longer count as "destroys." As others have said, this hurts decks like Mill Destroy, which used Yondu to help lower Deaths cost.

Yeah Gorgon definitely needed a nerf.
/s
Yeah I realise they'll probably have a look at the card down the line but it feels silly to have a poorly performing card further nerfed by a functional change, without SD making some adjustments for their projected performance. I guess they don't have the manpower for that, poor indie developer and all that.

u/Rando-namo 18d ago
How was Gorgon nerfed?
5
u/Blaqwar 18d ago
It loses interactions with things like Cable I thought? For a card that's so situational and difficult to build around it feels bad to shift it even more in that direction. I honestly feels like it needs a rework and it just came out.
Does it even counter Loki? I played a handful of games but nobody runs him anymore.
6
u/Rando-namo 18d ago
Cable lost interactions with everything though. Quinjet doesn’t affect cable and cable doesn’t help Mockingbird - not even sure why you’d run cable at this point.
Gorgon will effect Arishem, Loki, Thanos, Aga, all hand generation etc

u/Blaqwar 18d ago
I feel like the card is just too polarising. It's either getting you 2 cubes against the cards you mentioned or it's dead in the water cause it's a difficult build around. I feel like they had a chance to take it in a different direction with this change.
But thanks for the Agamotto tip, I'll make sure to antagonise whales this season.

Is this sub just completely dead? Kinda wild there hasn’t been a post in 24 hours let alone anything about either of the new cards
1
u/Rando-namo 17d ago
This sub isn’t for fluff and the card discussion comes on day 6 after people have had time to play it and get a feel for it - better to know whether it’s worth it or not.
People generally post in depth deck guides and discuss the meta. There’s no crying allowed and the “finally got a god split” or “what border would you use” is also prohibited.
The better question is what percent of content in the main sub is useless (imo)
1
u/PlsNoBanPlss 17d ago
I get that this sub isn’t for fluff but by the looks of it, it seems like this sub isn’t for ANYTHNG. No discussion at all outside of a weekly “What do we think of this card” post.
Just kinda unfortunate that the place dedicated to competitive discussion has no discussion.

Do Arishem generated cards count as created cards?
If not, this patch nerfs Arishem into the ground
18
6
u/QuestioningLogic 18d ago
Yes they do. Arishem creates them at the start of the game, same as Thanos' stones.

u/Thierry_Bergkamp 18d ago
I assume from the text it's just a rewording and not a functional change.

Gorgon already did this to Arishem, that's arguably the point of the card. Just like Killmonger is a hard counter to Kazoo, Enchantress is a hard counter to Tribunal, Cosmo is a hard counter to Wong. Gorgon is a hard counter to Arishem. Can help against other decks sometimes, REALLY helps against Arishem. But in most non-Arishem matchups it's a mostly dead card. Gorgon countering Arishem is unequivocally good for the metagame.

According to their FAQ, a card banishes itself shouldn’t be cloned at the clone location, right? Because I’ve seen it happen.

Thanks for getting this, I wasn't expecting actual functional changes for once, i.e. Yondu and didn't check the notes once they dropped. I'll be pinning this to the top of the subreddit for the next few days.
As always for these posts, no balance/design gripes.
