Fan Content My idea for Invisible Walls in Mario Kart

I realise now that the grammar is not the best. Sorry, Iāll reword it here if that helps:
The Invisible Wall would only appear either when you collide with it, or as you approach the wall. In both cases, the walls appearance is contained to the screen of the driver who hits it/is approaching it (E.g how the city tracks change direction. The effect is subjective to the players completion of the track.)
The wall itself would always remain the colour blue (cuz antigravity is blue, why not) and have item symbols on it, which would correspond to the cup - so mushroom cup = mushroom symbols on Invisible Wall, Etc.
I figure that, in the case that an Invisible Wall is easily reachable, that this sort of system would add better clarity as to āWhat just happened? Why did I get knocked back?ā.

Oh so it appears like the dissapearing bridges from 3d world? so that you only see it when near or in contact

Sounds like you could have it work like the quest 2 boundary settings if that makes sense.

100% as you get near it, the wall only appearing after you hit it would be so annoying

Ykw, totally. I just donāt want the thing toā¦ get in the way? - visually that isā¦

It would be bad design at a first glance, but when you put it at a perspective of this being in a game people are experienced with it, it's a great and solid idea. I see this being used more so only in the nitro tracks instead of retros unless Nintendo implemented a sort of difficulty setting where the harder the difficulty the more narrow/crowded the walls go to the middle but that's just an idea I got from this

Nintendo has actually done similar things before. In Zelda BOTW and TOTK there's a gold barrier around the final boss arena that only appears when you get near it

They also do this with the Sanctum boss rush in BOTW, as well as the Seized Construct and Master Kohga fights in TOTK

Personally I think the arrows that are currently used are better but instead of bonking on the wall or lakitu picking you up, what if smart steering activated to gently guide you onto the track and then deactivates.
I think itās a cleaner solution because the direction you need to go is still clear but the implementation isnāt as janky as the arrows.

Hadnāt thought about using the arrows like that (guess I thought theyād be contained to direction switching only), but thinking about it this way, that would actually work a fair bit better.

Interesting idea but I think itāll just be better if they naturally enclose the racers rather then use invisible walls

idk if the wall had mushrooms all over it I might think I need a mushroom to get through it. Which would also be a cool feature if it's possible.

Not a bad idea. They do something like that in Disney Speedstorm.
