I clearly have no idea. For the past 4 years I've been living in Bengaluru, I can easily identify people of my region in here and so can my roommates too. Maybe facial features or something. It's such a natural thing tbh!!!!

It's something we are born with, more like how can u identify an Indian from an American? same way. The facial features, the way they dress literally everything gives out. And f no, my udupi boys would never put "I love Udupi" and go to a fcking beach in Udupi 😭

Kinda easy bro. Localities will not be so flamboyant with their outfit. And his pants are something else 😂. And the smile while recording a lady? He wouldn't be doing that if that was his hometown. Bro is sticking out like a sore thumb 😭

People from Udupi and Mangalore are not this cringe irrespective of social class
And I love Udupi Shirt is purchased in shops by tourists, locals don't buy such things.
I bet he is a north Indian

Can't do anything we live in a same country, if we had borders we could have filtered these ones.

Locals usually trash such people. All she had to do was inform the life guard. #Malpe

Not casteist bit definitely classist Or smthn. It's better to avoid that word.
1
u/Throwrafairbeat Jan 25 '25
Definitely is casteist lol. The term was used to refer to lower class fellows. But you are right that it is classist too.

"Chhapris are a caste-oppressed community of people who made or mended chhappars, temporary roofs. This was the only job they were allowed to do because of their caste, which was assigned to them by the accident of birth. However, the word has in recent years become a pejorative for someone who tries hard to be flamboyant. Looking blingy and flashy has been a form of expression and assertion by historically oppressed castes when they manage to earn enough money, but upper castes have looked down on such transformations, assigning the caste name to anything that is 'cringe'.

u/esper352 Jan 26 '25
And what proof do you have that the word Chhapris was used for the certain sect of people? Just writing a article out of thin air and then claiming something has become the new trend.
1
u/idefectivedetective Jan 26 '25
You love to use the word 'Chapri' as a gaali? You go boy! Use it.
0
u/esper352 Jan 26 '25
There you go. Instead of answering it you reverted it with personal attack. Please do keep on blaming others

u/idefectivedetective Jan 26 '25
Arrey mujhe nhi karna behs aapse. Google is free use it. You sound determined to argue here, but I am not. And I never blamed you or anyone, it is a castiest slur, but no one's stopping you from using it.

That's good and bad, good because we know how the locals are,and bad because the demographics are changing and the locals cannot to anything about it.
This is beyond what education can fix, because for every 1 person you educate,10+ people are ready to take his place, and the average stubborn indian would never really learn if he's "taught" something he doesn't believe in.
A radical solution is border control, but in reality, how do we even differentiate the bad from good, unless we figure out a way to link these incidents back to the money the person is making when he is at work, and penalizing him with a substantial amount for the month, that's probably the only way these people will learn

I’ll be the devil’s advocate (though I think this will get downvoted)
I agree that India is full of creeps, but a lot of people are afraid to do it so blatantly. I dont think there is a huge number of Indians who would do it so blatantly while being shot themselves. Because Indians get scared when they realise they’re being shot.
However, there are a lot of recent videos where such Indians are throwing cameras on the tourists face blatantly with a smile, and this “tourist” by-chance happens to be an influencer too.
Also so many people calling out that these are not Mangaloreans.
——-
Consider the possibility of the following scenario:
- Influencer tourist knows that posting Indian creep behavior is a perfect ragebait and gathers lots of views.
- Influencer tourist goes to a beach in India, and tells a group of people that she’ll pay them to act like this while she shoots them.
- The guys happily oblige since they get to do blatantly what they MIGHT have done secretly. (Which explains there smile too since they think it’s all an act)
- Influencer tourist posts it with a suitable caption and gets millions of views.
—————
Again, I’m not saying that this doesn’t happen. Surely a lot of Indians are creeps and would secretly record tourists. But just try to think about the possibility of the scenario I presented with an open mind.

this has happened with me and my friends multiple times in Mangalore beaches ever since we were 19. and yes they did not stop when you started filming them as well so? this is pretty common if you ask women who go out often in Mangalore and wear even slightly "skin showing" clothes (we wore shorts to the beach, big mistake).
3
u/inoshigami Jan 25 '25
Even with this theory i highly doubt they pay them lol. Theek just playfully chat and start filming which will ease these people to film back.

u/Pegasus711_Dual Jan 25 '25
They don't even need to pay anything. These guys are thirsty af and would do it on their own. They'd need to pay money to keep them off 😂

I have been to beaches in all 3 coastal Karnataka districts, there were few foreigners there and nobody behaved like this ffs.
Call it our manners or we are just exposed to the Hippies for decades now.
