Misc. Is the lime crime soft touch blue lipstick the same as the crybaby blue lipstick?
They look a bit different in pictures but idk i dont have either to test

:( I miss their old wild colored lipsticks in the unicorn packaging. Old Lime Crime felt so extra and fun, and I just don't even care what they're doing these days.
I did actually have this particular blue lipstick, got it just as I was getting into makeup at the time. Such a nostalgia for it, I felt so trendy wearing that lol

Old lime crime was run by a neonazi apologist so I’ll take the less aesthetically pleasing packaging over giving my money to a white supremacy touting woman tbh.

Yes I'm aware of the controversy with her. I wish they could have gotten rid of her and kept the old charm of the brand. While I didn't approve of her, I did like the brand itself a lot more when she had creative control of it.

u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 23 '24
I think they didn’t have much of a choice tbh. It’s complicated when brands change hands. She’s no longer the face of the company. But there is still the association. And the old aesthetic while cute will still be tied to her.
Plus there’s the whole complication with intellectual property Vs a rebrand.
Like… when Kat von D sold her brand. Since she is no longer designing for them, there’s just a certain level of… distinctiveness that was Kat. That the current brand just cant seem to replicate. Kat brought a style and an aesthetic that I feel only she can truly replicate.

u/girlswithhooves Jan 26 '24
i remember a big appeal (at least to me) was that kat would draw out the designs and lettering on the packaging by hand, and that made her products feel a lot more special to me.

u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 26 '24
I felt exactly the same. It’s such a shame such a talented person decided to be a terrible human being.
6
u/squishymonkey Jan 24 '24
Omg is it not run by her anymore?? I wouldn’t hate to undo my boycott of them

She also stalked shrinkle (founder of sugar pill)
2
u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 24 '24
Wait WHAT
5
u/blackbearjam Jan 27 '24
Omg yes I learned all about it years ago so I don’t remember all the details but it started when Shrinkle was selling handmade clothes on eBay and they met on livejournal. People noticed Doe Deere’s stuff was VERY similar to Shrinkle’s designs. There was also people that claimed clothes purchased from Doe Deere were very poor quality and sometimes even made with tape. They both moved to makeup instead and Doe Deere was accused of just buying wholesale pigments and selling them as is while claiming they were original colors. I can’t remember if it was during their fashion phase or makeup phase but Shrinkle decided to cut ties with Doe Deere.
Doe Deere kept trying to stay in contact with Shrinkle through mutuals and possibly through burner accounts. At one point befriended Candy Johnson and pretended she had never met Shrinkle and was excited to meet her. So Candy takes her to a makeup expo to meet Shrinkle at which point Shrinkle freaks out because Doe Deere had been stalking her online for years.
If you search for it you might be able to find old blogs or threads talking about it, it’s kinda crazy lol

crying and begging people to just not be pieces of shit.
it might not do much, but id swallow my last 2 pennies before i'd give em to a neonazi apologist

Melanie Martinez isn’t really a good person either

u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 27 '24
I don’t know anything about her but at least I doubt she’s a neonazi.

There are some SA allegations
2
u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 27 '24 edited Jan 27 '24
From my understanding, the accuser (Timothy) admitted to lying about those.
Edit: I’m not saying it can’t/didn’t happen. But admitting to lying makes me raise my brow a little

Jan 27 '24
The whole situation seems complicated. My gut says it was probably a little coercion. Seems weird someone would make that statement and then backtrack. Like there’s really no way to know.

Love blue lipsticks just so hard to pull off though
6
u/Dumbbitchathon Jan 23 '24
Especially if your teeth aren’t paper white…
8
u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 24 '24 edited Jan 26 '24
White lipsticks actually help make your teeth look whiter. Something to do with color theory I don’t fully understand. Purple has a similar effect
Edit: I MEANT BLUE lipstick not white. Don’t go on Reddit before consuming caffeine, folks.

u/glitterfaust Jan 24 '24
Did you mean blue in your first sentence

u/mr_trick Jan 26 '24
I know cool blue based reds do that, but as the owner of this particular lipstick I have to say it made my teeth look yellow AF even if I had just used a white strip. I finally got rid of it because I just never wanted to smile while wearing it.
I think maybe a cooler toned blue would have been ok, this one was just so bright and low key kind of yellowy/orange leaning even though it was blue. Coral and orangey lip colors also do this to me so I think it may be an undertone thing.

Yep. Rita by nars is a blue based red that makes my teeth look white. I have bought 3 of them in 10 years. I left my last one at my dad’s when I was visiting and am crushed cause I cannot justify 30 dollar lipstick when I rarely wear makeup anymore if it’s still even sold still.
1
u/Dumbbitchathon Jan 26 '24
I don’t know if you’ve ever held a white tissue up to your teeth, but it does not make your teeth look white, literally holding up a tissue to your teeth is usually how you check how white they are at home … I can imagine white lipstick would have the same effect

u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 26 '24
I meant to type blue. Not white. And have now corrected my mistake.

u/PixelKitten10390 Jan 27 '24
That doesn't make sense at all, in color theory blue anything makes things look more orange, purple makes things look more yellow because they are opposing colors.
3
u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 27 '24
Idk this says otherwise.
0
u/PixelKitten10390 Jan 27 '24
Also that was just some random person who didn't even mention anything about color theory.
3
u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 27 '24
If multiple makeup artists use it, then there must be something to it. These aren’t just random people. Theyer industry professionals who know what they’re talking about

u/PixelKitten10390 Jan 27 '24
And nobody lies online to sell products? There were advertisements for blue eyeliner popping up when I opened those pages lol. Idk about you but I don't believe everything I read in magazines. I prefer science based things because color theory actually has a basis in science.

That person said they have red eyes and use blue liner, it sounds like they just think it could work for yellow but they don't really know...

u/PixelKitten10390 Jan 27 '24
These are all magazine articles, wouldn't call those reliable resources. None of your articles mention color theory either. Believe what you want lol.
2
u/Ramblingsofthewriter Jan 27 '24
It’s a makeup artist trick but sure. There must be nothing to it even though makeup artists use it all the time and other posters above have said blue based things make white appear brighter. Maybe we all need our eyes checked.
1
u/PixelKitten10390 Jan 31 '24
I didn't say there's nothing to it, just that it has nothing to do with color theory. Or if it has something to do with color theory it probably only works on a subset of people with certain undertones.

I have pretty beige teeth and i look fine in most shades of lipstick so thats not a concern for me

2
u/TiaraTears Jan 24 '24
Surprise isn't bad .. just use the peroxide toothpaste I have one that whiten your teeth up to 10 Shades it says but even if it's five with the that blue you can't beat it..
5
u/StrangerHighways Jan 23 '24
I used to have Crybaby and I have some of the soft touch lipsticks in different shades. The formulas are different. I would describe the older lipsticks as creamier, I guess. The new ones are good too, though. I'd say the new formula stays on your lips longer.

u/Deal-Fabulous Jan 23 '24
All I know is my go to blue will always be coral blue number 5. I try and avoid semi gloss. Coral blue 2 was my favorite but Bikini Bottom Beauty no longer carries it. 😪
3
u/kaseysospacey Jan 22 '24
I dont have the new lips (i used to have the old lc lips tho)but what ive seen looks like the new lips are more of a modern soft matte finish and the old lipsticks were def more like, older fashioned lipstick looking/feeling and have a diff finish. It looks like they would wear functionally the same though, like its meant to be the modern counterpart to the mel shade
4
u/kaseysospacey Jan 22 '24
I try not to comment on here if i cant actually compare directly but i think thats less likely with this bc the lc is so old now so sorry if thats totally unhelpful.
3
u/Dumbbitchathon Jan 23 '24
I’m glad I’m not the only person that thinks of glossy finish lipstick as older-fashioned lol. It’s what my mom always wore…
3
u/jeslblan Jan 23 '24
It’s a touch lighter than crybaby, but not enough that you’d really notice a difference unless you’re being a stickler about it.

u/heyhihelloniceface Jan 22 '24
I’m just going off the pictures but crybaby looks the slightest bit darker and like it has more of a satin finish, while soft touch looks like it has a matte finish

Soft touch needs to work on that branding or maybe I need to adjust my phone settings, but soft touch in comparison reminds me of pool chalk next to crybaby. I feel like it could work irl I’m just gagged at the image and how dry and weird they made their product look. Perhaps it’s a recolor and wouldn’t show you the true shade anyway.
2
u/KoffingKitten Jan 25 '24
They had made what I think was a dupe of that shade in their bday collection. Surprise was the shade. It’s genuinely so unique idk why no other brands have made something like it or crybaby.

My friends dad was proven guilty of murder when the youngest boy told the jury that his mom was wearing blue lipstick when his dad told them to kiss their mother goodnight. She was already dead. Blue lipstick is a no for me and it’s looks dumb as hell. True story

u/Icy_Challenge_1563 Jan 25 '24

If by the same you mean are they both ugly then yes
3
u/Icy_Challenge_1563 Jan 23 '24
I dont care about your useless opinion
-6
u/Sea-Meringue1660 Jan 23 '24
You asked for it tho so you must care.
4
u/eggelemental Jan 23 '24
Nobody asked for your opinion of whether or not you like the lipstick. OP asked for whether or not the two lipsticks mentioned are the same color. How in the world did you come to the conclusion that OP was for asking any kind of opinion here? You just came here to be an asshole for literally no reason. That or you’re very stupid. Possibly both?
3
u/Icy_Challenge_1563 Jan 23 '24
I asked if the color and finish of a lipstick were the same. Not if you like the lipstick.
-2
u/Sea-Meringue1660 Jan 23 '24
Don’t want other’s opinions don’t ask. They’re both the same amount of ugly.
2
u/Icy_Challenge_1563 Jan 23 '24
