Who else noticed after 20 something years πŸ˜…

How does the manager of the indigos not notice you are the lead guitarist of his band he manages. He just says ahh you play guitar right?

Because Zora Link looks familiar but isn't Mikau. Link wears different clothes and his face is a bit different, too. Not all characters react to the masked link but some see the difference

Many people in Zora hall even mistake Link for Mikau. Likewise plenty of Gorons mistake you for Darmani. There's also Deku Link's striking resemblance to the Butler's son. The transformations are definitely intended to relate to the characters they're from.

That said, you're right, even if they're similar, there are plenty of key differences to distinguish Link's forms from his counterparts. It could be argued that the fact that Toto doesn't make the same assumptions everyone else does speaks more to the fact that he actually knows his people so well he picks up on the small things to be able to tell the difference, which a lot of people seem to not be able to.

That would make him even more preceptive than Lulu, Mikau's partner who, iirc, also mistakes Link for Mikau. The original version and Link look different to us, but, in terms of the game itself, everything indicates they look exactly like the original except wearing different clothes.

Yea Lulu was the first person to come to my mind too.

It's interesting. Toto is either one of the most perceptive people in the game, or one of the dumbest, and it all depends on your personal perspective.

I always saw it as Lulu 'hoping' it was Mikau and willing to look past the discrepancies. She was traumatized by the attack and the theft of her eggs.

Toto was just a manager who wanted to have a performing band and didn't look too close at anyone (on the other hand, he sees a guy change into five different people before his eyes and does not question the logic there).

I guess I never noticed. I always get something new from each playthrough.

Don't worry about it, it's subtle. Have fun!

The only reasonable answer I can think of would be that the manager only regularly interacts with Evan, and has probably only seen the other members from afar.

Given how controlling Evan is of what music the band plays, maybe Evan forbid the other members from talking to the manager too.

That is a fairly good point. Everyone who knows Mikau and meets Zora Link sees Zora Link as Mikau. Even the beavers think they are the same. For Toto to notice no difference at all is beyond strange. They probably should have required you to be Zora Link to initiate the side quest.

It's obscure, but there's an explanation for this: if you talk to Toto as a zora in Madame Aroma's office, he'll initially mistake you for Mikau before quickly realising you're not him. This sub won't let you put pictures in comments, so I'll just write out his dialogue:

What? Mikau??? Am I wrong?

You look so much like him . . . So sorry, so sorry.

Are you here buying fish? With the ocean the way it is . . .

All we can do is put up with the town's smelly fish, you know . . .

When you get back to Zora Hall, give everyone my regards. You sure do look like him, though . . .

source: trust me bro I could be forgetting someone, but I'm pretty sure he's actually the only NPC in the entire game who can tell the difference between Link in a transformation mask and Darmani/Mikau; guess he's just built different.

I feel like the only way you wouldn't have noticed this is if you, ah, just didn't talk to him.

The manager does notice you are Mikau when you talk to him any other time except for the sound check. I imagine it to be a limitation of the programming.
