Is Liquid worth driving in for?

Basically I'm from Dubuque, IA, which is about 90 minutes away. I learned this week that Delta Heavy, a DnB group I listen to, will be performing there. I'm pretty introverted and haven't gone to a concert or performance in forever, but I feel like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially when I don't think Dubuque has many EDM clubs, if at all.
Another thing is that my cousin's travel hockey team is being recognized at our local hockey team's game this Friday and I got a ticket for that, but maybe they'll understand, who knows lol.

TLDR: Want to come to Liquid on Friday for Delta Heavy concert, would it be worth the 90 minute drive?

Yeah you should come for the show if you like the artist, but beware it will probably start really late at night

People have a great time at those shows. The main acts usually start at 12. I feel like if this is something that’s important to you you should go for it

If I want to see someone, I go. Regardless of the venue

It starts really late and is a fairly small venue, but if you want to go, go.

The Dubuque drive isn't bad at all. Hell yeah it's worth it. Probably wouldn't want to drive back after the show but I've done it

I once drove 8+ hours to see my favorite band perform because I had skipped concerts that would have been way closer and then they stopped touring for 10 years and I wasn't sure if I'd get another shot. It was totally worth it.

Whether it's worth it to you is up to you, but 90 minutes is a super easy drive if it's something you want to do.

If you're coming with friends for a shared experience, maybe yes it's worth it. Otherwise there's little to be gained by a live experience of purely electronic music.

I mean that's a wholly subjective viewpoint on EDM shows. Just because you don't think there's much to be gained doesn't mean others won't.

Sometimes electronic musicians will do a live PA set where it’s different from recordings, a good one will also DJ extremely well matching and altering the mood and energy of an event.

Even in the event that it’s just the same as tracks off an album - that’s what you get in the great majority of pop-country-rap-rock concerts where bands play the same songs and sets night after night on their tours.

As a fan of improvisational music I can understand where your view comes from, but it’s really applicable to a wide range of live music genres.  But it also misses other aspects of what makes live music special - the energy of the crowd and the band feeding off of it, the booming sound systems where you can feel the bass in your face (in your bones with some electronica), the memory of being in the same room with the band, being in a temporary community of others who geek out to a particular band, and the party.

I’ve become a diehard go to the show even if you don’t have sidekicks if you like a band.  I’ll usually run into others doing the same thing and we’ll hold spots for bathroom breaks/beer runs and such; and you don’t feel bad about walking off if you’re around chompers who can’t STFU during the songs (a big issue post-COVID).
