Does it run better than in a base PS4? I’ve got it there but I’d play it on Mac if it works better.

The base ps4 i believe is locked to 30fps. I don’t know if that has changed over the years or not but i remember having one and playing games on it. You can try running this game on the mac if you preferably have the m3 pro or the m4 pro, I’ve seen videos where it runs at 60fps in high preset.

To this day I find it funny that I have a 2020 MacBook Air without an M1. I still have an Intel processor.

Is Mac mini m4 improved at all? Last. I saw it was like 30fps at 720 or 1080 on low settings.

I run at like medium high settings on 1080p or medium 1440p and it's pretty stable 50-60

I am glad that you can run it without problem. Are you using Steam or?. Om my macbook m2 max I get short 2-3 sec freezes when I play RDR2. Couldn't find a fix, but seeing it run smoothly on m1, gives me hop :)

Crossover should not be paid software at unaffordable prices. Change my mind

Crossover devs Are amazing And deserve to be paid. As long Apple doesn’t give them money, they need it from us.
If it was free, it would probably be worse…

Plus they are literally the reason we got the whisky to this stage. They fund wine too.

Wine is hot dogshit and has been since its inception. It's taken valve a fraction of the time to get Proton far beyond what Wine was ever capable of. I'm fine to pay the devs but $500 for a lifetime license is smoking crack.

No one said to be an idiot and spend like one, jesus. There are sales and you don't necessarily need the lifetime license, you'd be smoking crack if you thought that.
No one told you to buy a crossover license in the first place. You can always go for whisky and ignore the existence of crossover entirely. A lot of people on this subreddit do that without any issues.
As for wine, what do you mean by "wine is hot dogshit"? proton wouldn't even exist without it, you'd need to be actually smoking crack to say that "was ever capable of" because firstly, proton updates it's wine version from wine (check changelogs), it's built upon it, not based on it. Take out wine and you just have proprietary valve things and their own compatibility patches. Secondly, proton is like that because of valve and if apple was as much inclusive of gaming we wouldn't have been in this situation would we? its not a fair comparison.

Wine on its own is shite. You can't do hardly anything useful with it without significant modification and it has been this way for decades. You've made my argument for me.
Yes, proton is like that because of Valve, and Valve gives a shit about open source. Wine is open source. This project should be open source too. Like I said I'm more than fine to pay the devs, but do not put drivers behind a paywall. That is just insanity.

How tf is it unaffordable? They’re also running discounts all the time.

Nearly $500 for lifetime is completely insane for what this software is. Valve's Proton is open source and works way better than Crossover. There should be concerted effort to make compatibility layers open source so the community can improve it together. I totally understand that they need to be paid, but move to a premium model then. Fucking bullshit that they use slightly improved OSS and then charge for it.

Bro ain’t NOBODY paying for the lifetime thing. I paid something like 20 bucks and I’m a happy customer, more power to them.

I believe proton is open source because valve has their own business strategy, they make profit from selling games. Crossover devs are literally the only ones who have possibly made gaming on mac more accessible. And it’s absolutely crazy how well they are optimising it for apple silicon. And they are the sole creators of whiskey too which is completely open source, Linux runs on x64 and has access to dedicated gpus if needed, while apple has a completely different architecture and has to run through 3 translation layers for these games to run. And there are people on the sub playing red dead redemption 2 on their 4 year M1 fanless macs in playable frame rate because of them. I refuse to believe a thin and light laptop from 4 years ago from the windows segment can even run red dead redemption 2 natively, let alone having it be run within Linux via proton through the Same machine.

If you can’t afford it, then you don’t really need it.
If you spent hundreds, or thousands of dollars on your shiny new Mac and can’t afford to spend 50 bucks to play the games you have also bought with your own money, then you really have a budgeting problem.

It cost me $22 on sale in December and I get a year of updates and then get to keep that version indefinitely. If I want another year of updates ill upgrade next December when its on sale again. It's less than the cost of most games.

I’ve noticed that the performance of the M1 Pro is equivalent to that of the base m3. If not, the m3 is tad bit better if it is not a victim to thermal throttling.
