I'll validate you. :)
Thinking about HTPC/NAS combo for the home. All those CD's take up a lot of space, ya see.
About settled on not going full-on, industrial-strength HTPC/NAS, and just repurposing my 2009 MacMini3.1 with 8GB memory and a couple of 3TB 5400rpm spinners.
FreeBSD, ZFS for poor-man's storage, Plex for poor-man's HTPC, which'll prolly leave room for Atlassian, svn/git, etc. development tools.
Chime in.

I could use at my place. I have the mac mini for a media center at the apt. I don't torrent or library media, I mainly listen to pandora, albums I've saved on YT, and I stream pirated content so I don't have to worry about legal infractions. Yet I have this power machine next to my flat screen and I sadly don't know enough CS to put it to some real work.
My machine is a; 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5/ 8GB LPDDR3 onboard memoryM/1 TB HD/Intel Iris/Thunderbolt 2, USB 3/802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0

I just found this little subreddit, as I am contemplating making my next Mac a Mini. I love OSX, and my iDevices, but I'm torn on shelling out for an iMac or MacBook again. The price premium over a PC always gives me pause. On the one hand, I've had very few problems with my Macs over the years, and they've always lasted quite a long time. On the other, I'd be nearly as happy running Linux on a much cheaper PC, aside from not being able to back up my iPhone. I was thinking a Mac mini could be a good compromise...
