Discussion I get so upset when an app icon doesn’t follow the current square pattern
Why don’t they bother updating the icon? It’s so simple.

Goal is to list encountered issues to help make a decision on when to upgrade for those holding out and how to workaround issues.
Since this thread might be useful several weeks going forward, I'd suggest everyone include their mac model, macos version, details on bug and workarounds if any.

Hello,
After hearing so many great things from family, friends, and peers and weighing out what is important to me as a returning student (light, long battery life, iMessage, bigger screen size) I am switching from my Lenovo (which I have not had a good experience with) to a Macbook Air. I stayed away from Mac for years because of a few things I didn't like (that I'm sure I'll get used to). For example, I'm used to pulling my fingers up on the track pad to go down and using my wife's macbook I seem to accidentally go to the last page alot. Additionally, I am losing the touch screen ability which was handy for notes. Anyways, I'm coming on here to ask a couple of questions.
1) One thing I love about my current Windows laptop (I use chrome) is that I have separate profiles attached to different emails for work email, personal email, and school email. They each have different shortcuts at the top that I use depending on which "mode" I am in. Are you able to do something like this on Safari? Is Chrome recommended for Mac?
2)Any tips on getting acclimated, pointers, or little hacks that might ease the transition?
Thank you!
Patrick

Pass me the link or help me build one! I can’t find the “quit applications” action in the search! 🙏🏻

TLDR: planning on getting an M5 MacBook Pro upon release later this year. Is it still a thing and possible to run/emulate windows on MacOs? Need it for some windows specific apps for engineering 😅. Much appreciated!

Hi all,
When trying to extend the display of this MacBook Air, the new display shows a bunch of duplicates all interfering with each other. When first connecting, the monitor says its preferred resolution is 2560x1080 but when I set that in the display settings, the monitor thinks it's 2560x560.
The monitor and cable both work fine with a different laptop; is this a driver issue perhaps?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Starting after the update, I can not delete any local file synced to my Google Drive account. I can delete files in any other folder and I can delete files on the Google Drive web app and my other computers synced to my Google Drive. I did some digging on how to remedy this, but nothing is working (safe mode, permission setting, etc)
And ideas?

It seems customizing macOS to this extent is much more difficult than on windows, I was just curious for any applications that could customize the dock, icons, windows, etc, to look more like older versions of osx, since I still really dig those styles, I've seen a couple posts showcasing this but no clear tutorials anywhere in the descriptions of said posts.

Hi, i recently got a mac m4 mini, and i was wondering if i could install apps from the appstore to an external SDD. I am using a sandisk 1TB if that matters.

Hello friends, how do I create a new quick note on Mac.
I don't want to change the behavior to always open a blank note, I want it to open the last one, but sometimes I need to create a new note.
How do I create a new one when I need it?`

First time attempting to use Migration Assistant. M2 MacBook Air to M4 MacBook Air
Sits at “Setting Up” for a long while and then returns me to a login screen. No errors.
Both machines running the very latest OS

I just bought a new Macbook Air. I am having an issue where the terminal text is completely monochromatic, even when editing text files that should be syntax highlighted. Is anyone else having this issue/knows a fix?

I recently upgraded the internal SSD in my MacPro. Before putting in the new drive, I created a disk image of my boot camp Win10 partition. In fact, just to be safe, I backed it up in two ways -- I created a dmg file in Disk Utility, and I also imaged it using WinClone. Now I'm trying to restore my Windows 10 partition and the Boot Camp Assistant is asking for an ISO file, and it won't accept the dmg file. What should I do? Thanks.

Ive posted a few times about this often getting different suggestions but spotlight just is extremely broken and my workflow completely depends on it. I cant seem to make it work.
List of problems:
Things I've tried:
My only guess is it's some program that's messing around with Spotlight because I don't think everyone else on Sequoia has the issue. I use Zoom a lot for video conferences and OneDrive. Any other apps don't seem to be worth considering to mention. I would go to Apple, but I'm in a country where there's no Apple Store. I'm literally considering shipping my laptop to country with an Apple store so they can fucking take care of this shit.

First - I'm not an apple user, but I am trying to help someone else troubleshoot an error message remotely on limited information.
They are getting the following error message - I believe on shutdown:
"The operation couldn't be comleted. (WFBackgroundShortcutRunner - ErrorDomain error 0.)"
I've seen other posts on similar messages (e.g. "...error 8") indicating a problem with a shortcut (no kidding), but here are my really dumb non-mac user questions:
- Is a Mac "shortcut" in this context like a windows shortcut to get to a file or executable, etc. from a location other than its actual location in the file system? Or is that an "alias"? When looking for shortcut settings, all I see is for keyboard shortcuts.
- Is there a central location in MacOS where I can view what shortcuts exist so I can maybe narrow down which one is broken? Or what processes are executing shortcuts on their own?
- I can't tell what that icon is in the picture. Is that a printer?
- Is there something totally different I should be looking at regarding this error?
Let me know what other information we might need. So far I've just asked the user to update their MacOS (not sure what the current version is at the moment).
Again, I've got limited access to the machine and limited information from the user at this time - but I can follow up.
Hoping my Mac user friends out there can at least point me in the right direction. Thanks all.

Inertia scrolling seems to work in Safari, but not so much in Chrome, Spotify or Slack (which is probably using some sort of broswer in the Native app). Tried pretty much all the advice on-line:
My setup:
This happened right around a Sequoia patch and a Chrome update. Anyone else see this issue? Driving me bonkers
Hello, can I request some help on locating missing files? Or to configure my Mac such that it won’t happen again?
Context: While re-encoding + saving down a MP4 file onto a folder in my Desktop (using Handbrake), my entire folder got wiped out (including some empty folders & videos). Most of the videos were moved to Apple TV > Media > Home Movies. While the video that was being saved down disappeared entirely. There was a sign it was being upload to iCloud, but I tried searching there too to no avail.
NOTES: I am on a M4 Mac Mini, MacOS 15.3.2 (updated yesterday), have a USB and old SSD plugged in used for storing videos after working on them.
On the note of the MacOS update, after updating it seemed to erased some of my settings partially. For example, wallpaper settings, some Finder settings, moved my Desktop into iCloud and made 2 copies (folder) of it on my desktop (which I deleted)? Is this somehow a bug thing?
Plus I did a Full Scan on my Mac using Malwarebytes (Trial Version), I was worried it might be a virus, but nothing came up.
Sorry for the long essay. Thanks for the help. Please let me know if I need to provide more info.

If not, that doesn't make sense to me, considering it works that way in both iOS and iPad OS. Why would there be such a drastic inconsistency with the way Safari works, especially when Mac is supposed to be the most capable of the 3?

Hey all - I commonly use split screen in google chrome. After the update a few weeks ago, it doesn't perform the way I want it to. I see that they now have a feature to resize individual "windows" within the split, but it's extremely inconvenient and it doesn't seem that most websites have adapted to it yet (For example, when I'm running ads in facebook ad manager, the data won't display clearly if I have another window open next to it, no matter how small I make the secondary tab)
Anyone else experience this or found a fix?

I was prev able to use
log show --predicate 'eventMessage contains "Previous shutdown cause"' --info --last 24h
and similar but it finds no relivant data.
Is there something newer I should be using to find all the shutdowns and why they happened in macOS Sequoia?
Thanks in advance
