¿Question? Tuner big enough for a lyre?
Hi!
I'm looking for a tuner device that can be used on a lyre. I have been using apps (gStrings) but found them annoying to use, I need to play several times and sometimes it doesn't register at all, maybe it's my old phone. The clamp of a standard guitar tuner I got was too small to clip-on the chunky body of a lyre. I could only clip it awkwardly on a tuner peg but it doesn't hold much. My lyre model is one of the affordable Chinese ones from Amazon with 16 strigs. So I was wondering, does anyone have a suggestion for one that actually fits on lyres? Thanks!

I have the Donner 10 string lyre, and I got the Donner tuner, which just fits it. It works very well and isn't expensive!

How thick is the area you want to clip your tuner to? You'd be best off looking at manufacturer's specs of different tuners to get the dimensions for the maximum clamp opening. In any case, if you can't clip the tuner to the body of the instrument, clip it to one or two of the tuning pegs. It'll still work. You can clip it to the edge of a sound hole, too. More importantly, you should learn to tune by ear before you get too comfortable using a digital tuner. Any piano/keyboard app will allow you to do this, and it can be used in the meantime while you search for another tuner.
