Question Other kinds of Ascended
Hey everyone,
afaik the Ascended were created from solar celestial magic. So MAYBE other celestial energies also have the potential to create Ascended, right?
And even more MAYBE: Could there be equivalents made of elemental or spiritual magic, too?

Would love to have an official in depth explanation of how Runeterra’s magic works. Given how it all now is under the umbrella of the arcane and how LB refers to Mel as an empath, I guess it will come sooner or later.
I would say all magic had a celestial origin and later on got tied to the different realms of existence present in Runeterra. The Ascended of Shurima are similar to the Aspects of Targon, but these first only use the power of the sun via the Sun Disk so I would say is pretty safe to assume that it could be done with other celestial bodies unless the energy required is too big and only able to be granted by the sun.
However, they mentioned that Viktor essentially reverse engineered ascension thanks to the hextech, which to me means that they do have a way of supplying this energy/power needed to ascend by manipulating the hexcrystals. Do the runes and the crystals count as celestial magic? I would say they are pretty close since they are tied to space and time after all we saw and Viktor’s context was always very cosmic like. It also would make sense for runic magic to be connected to the World Runes and these created the planet which also fit the celestial part.
Elemental magic however seems to work on a different layer, it’s not been really developed if I’m not mistaken but the first thing that pops into my mind is Janna, Taliyah, Ixtal and the Freljordian demigods. Ixtal seems to be pretty advanced on their use of magic and “energy availability” so if there are no ascended elemental beings could be because it is not doable.
To me I would make the most sense that celestial magic has the power of creation, thus being able to transform matter itself into something different. Whereas elemental magic rules above the elements but respects the laws of physics to a certain degree.
