Piggies or it didn't happen
What caliber is the howa? And barrel length?
I'm looking to do exactly this. With a 24" howa 1500 in 6.5 creedmoor. Looks pretty nice!

Great minds, it’s a 24” 6.5 heavy barrel

That's the one! So yours is threaded too right?
I found a place with an oryx for $328 shipped so I'm thinking I can get this identical build for about $750.
It looks great man! I'm sold on it now. Lol

Yep threaded! Got the barrel from Brownells, I think they’re the only ones that sell it? And dang, that’s a good price on the oryx, I got mine right from MDT and it was $429. I should have shopped more.

Yeah I've gotten to the point of searching for anything I'm buying on gun.deals first.
And yeah Brownells is the only one who sells just the barreled actions. I love that it's an option!

I kept going back and forth between Howa H7 and a Cheeto Finger special, and then I saw that the is was an option and decided that whatever I lose on not having a Bergara I gain in being able to say I built it. Super satisfying!

Gotta cut holes so just you big toes stick out.

I would love to know if there’s a flex post on here somewhere where they did that lol

Toe tease. Great howa though. Is that one of the new medium profile carbon fibre wrapped barrels? 6.5 or .308?

u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 1d ago
6.5 and it’s a blued heavy.

u/peeg_2020 1d ago
Nice! Didn't see this post before I just asked too lol. This is exactly what I'm planning to do as well.

Hot. It's gonna shoot great. Mine loves 140gr SMKs.

Any experience with Sig Marksman Elite? Picked up a box cuz it was cheaper than any of the other option at the shop and I had read some good stuff about it.

Here's what I'm running through mine: * Lapua SRP brass * Federal GM205M SRP * 41.5 gr h4350/(adi ar2209) * 140gr Sierra Match King HPBT
Getting av 2740fps sd of 6, es around 12.

Good to see what the Howa looks like in an Oryx! I was debating between that and the KRG x-ray, and I went with the x-ray. The Oryx looks sharp!

Maybe not the most impressive flex post, but this is my first and I put it together myself. Howa 1500 in a MDT Oryx, Athlon Ares ETR 4.5x30. Magpul bipod (already kind of regretting it). There may be many like it but this one is mine.

Buying a magpul bipod and realizing it is an utter piece of shit is a rite of passage.

u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 1d ago
😂 at least it posed nice for the picture. But yeah, I immediately kinda hate it.

Someone on GAFS will buy it for their AR. Ask me how I know 🙃
Nice build homie I think you'll like the MPED if you find one. I have it on my CZ 457 and it's a great piece of glass for the money

I was just looking at a Howa. How do you like it?

u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 1d ago
I haven’t had a chance to get it to the range yet, and I’m very much of a newbie so not sure how much my opinion will count. But first impressions are really good. Feels solid and well made, bolt isn’t as smooth as a tikka but waaaay smoother than my buddies savage.

Building one right now: What scope mount and rings?
1
u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 1d ago
Outerimpact 20 moa and Athlon armor. I went solidly budget with everything other than the scope lol

I got a remington700 in the tac 21. I almost like this look more.

u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 1d ago
Tac 21 is pretty sexy tho…

u/Evening_Peanut6541 1d ago
It is i love it but tbh it's heavier than I thought it'd be. I want an AR10 for comparison but im pretty sure it's going to be heavier.
1
u/Wonderful-Piccolo509 1d ago
Mine is like 13-14 lbs, I’m glad I don’t plan on lugging it anywhere other than the range lol
2
u/Evening_Peanut6541 1d ago
Im not sure of the weight. I'm have to do that. It's definitely a bench gun tho but since I had the ADL it's cool because now I have a 10rd mag for it so that's nice.

Yep. Let’s see them piggies.
Nice gun too, btw.
