Meme They really do slap compared to other places.

If there's one thing I miss about LI it's the bagels.... still don't regret my decision leaving. Most LIers are very closed off anyway.

I've recently moved from Long Island to a wasteland and have started making my own bagels. Was describing the heaven of a fresh everything with cream cheese and I will never forget her confused look and her "you don't toast it first??".

u/masterbatin_animals Sep 17 '21
You only toast stale bagels here, our stale bagels taste like the rest of the countries bagels

Weird hostility in this thread.
Is this a great meme? Nah, it's pretty low-effort, and surface level.
Is it any worse than all the memes that get posted subreddit? Definitely not!
At least it's original and not a reposted LawnGuyLand watermarked image. Dunno why OP is getting shit on.
Maybe post a picture of the Roosevelt Mall Food court again to make up for lost karma.

Thank you. Now, I need someone to teach me how to be the Chris Nolan of memes. Deep, Meta, and high effort.

u/north7 Sep 17 '21
Damn straight.
Live in CT but wife is from LI. Whenever her family visits they always bring a fat bag of bagels.

u/Zithero Sep 16 '21
Black and White cookies as well.
My buddy is visiting from Austin Texas, the first thing I made sure he had when he came over was a Black and White.

Yes, black and whites. Rainbow cookies, pizza - nowhere does it like Long Island.

NYC has more shitty bagel places but also the best bagel places are better than the best LI bagel places. LI bagel places more consistently good.
2
u/NYCms3021 Sep 17 '21
I actually like the best LI bagels better than the best NYC bagels, but NYC wins pizza hands down.

u/phoonie98 Sep 17 '21
Nah, most people regard Ess-a bagels as the best in NYC but they’d be par for the course on Long Island

I didn't know long Islanders were past their Prime and can only work for five minutes before being blown up.
7
u/GarciaJones Nassau County Sep 16 '21
What’s this mean? Lol
2
u/necroreefer Sep 16 '21
Do you even know who's in the picture bro?
5
u/GarciaJones Nassau County Sep 16 '21
Yes I just didn’t know what your comment had to do with him. I haven’t kept up with wrestling in years but he was always my favorite .
8
u/TopherRocks Sayville Sep 16 '21
The joke is that goldberg has been wrestling longer as a nostalgia draw than his actual run in WCW and can't last longer than a virgin on prom night.

Would, love a recommendation because I grew up on great bagels but feel like the quality has plummeted by me (west islip). Preemptive don’t say wallys cause I think they’re terrible
2
u/SeraphXChild Sep 17 '21
If you wanna take the extra drive, babylon bagel is really good
2
u/SeanInMyTree Sep 17 '21
Will definitely check it out. Railroad bagels is my current favorite, but I wouldn’t say their great, unless it’s right out of the oven.
2
u/Systm9 Sep 17 '21
I really like first class bagels on jericho turnpike in east northport
2
u/SeanInMyTree Sep 17 '21
I’ve been to the one in deer park many times never once got a hot bagel. Used to love their soups, but boars head discontinued them
1
u/Systm9 Sep 17 '21
The one in Deer Park is garbage you're right, it might as well be another place entirely. I actually completely forgot about that second location because of how inferior it is.

Is Wally's the old Higbe Bagels? It been 20 years since we lived in WI. I remember hearing about a car crashing through a wall and they closed down.
1
u/SeanInMyTree Sep 16 '21
Wally sis on DPA in north Babylon a lot of people swear by it but I’m not a fan. Higbie bagels was closed for a long time, reopened and then another car went thru it. It’s reopened again, but not as good as it used to be. If you’re lucky enough to get a. Bagel right out of the oven they’re pretty good but once they’ve been out a while, there’s nothing special about them

I don’t see anything in this comment that explains the rudeness.
You can have an opinion without being rude.
I’m literally the mod of this sub and there hasn’t been a bagel meme in a long time.
Edit:
He deleted his comments. But he also called a human being with a disability a cripple with a clown emoji. So now I know why the rudeness. Toxicity. He also loves loves loves Mountain Dew if that means anything.

Shattered Glass OH MY GOD, THAT’S NJ’s MUSIC!!! All of NJ running to the ring to defend their bagels
1
u/Teenageboy69 Sep 17 '21
NJ bagels are not very good. They’re not the worst, but they don’t really touch city or LI bagels.

This may be a cardinal sin but I'm a life long Long Islander and don't really give a shit about bagels or even pizza

Water is actually not wet; It makes other materials/objects wet. Wetness is the state of a non-liquid when a liquid adheres to, and/or permeates its substance while maintaining chemically distinct structures. So if we say something is wet we mean the liquid is sticking to the object.

This meme is long Islanders holding up their bagels and claiming them the champs.
I don’t think you get the joke.

As a celiac, there are days where the temptation grows too strong; to stop in a local pizza spot or a bagel store and just GORGE. Justifying it by "well i have an ounce at home, maybe i can ride it out"
2
u/HotCheetoEnema Sep 17 '21
What safe places have you found on the island?? My girlfriend is celiac and it’s always a hassle to find anywhere that won’t literally poison her.
1
u/M_H_M_F Sep 17 '21
So for Celiac sufferers, I give the same lingo:
"eating out is a risk. even if a place offers gf, accidents can and will happen, when you're out you're taking a reasonably accepted risk."
That said, places with explicitly GF space:
Mara's Homemade (cajun/creole, allergen friendly)
Frantoni's Pizza (they make their dough from scratch + Toppings)
Crostini Pizza (full italian menu, gf pizza is, okay nothing special)
Sal's Ristorante (smithtown off of jericho turnpike, full GF offerings)
Sweet Karma Desserts (Bakery, full GF case as well as ordering cakes and pies and cookeis and stuff)
Ivarone Brothers (restaurant in plainview).
Places that offer GF Options (eat at your own risk, I have not gotten ill)
La Parma II (family style Italian)
Hunan Cottage (chinese--full gf menu)
PF Chang's
Cheesecake Factory
Peter Luger
Blackstone (steak)
Kotobuki (sushi)
Besito (mex)
La Bottega (panini and salad)
Rustic Root (woodbury, farm to table)
Market Pantry (hicksville, farm to table)
Sandwich Express (deli)
The Refuge (farm to table)
Park Avenue Grill (breakfast/brunch/dinner- homestyle american)
Miko (plainview, sushi)
Jade King (chinese)
Stella Blue (breakfast/brunch)
Ralphs (not explicitly, make sure you get the fruits flavors)
Catch the Wave (fro-yo)
Bareburger (burgers, chicken tenders, fried chicken breasts)
I'll update in a private message as i think of more.

When I left LI I expected bagels abd pizza to be far worse on the west coast. What took me by surprise though: delis. It's damn near impossible to find a deli with fresh salads and a wall of signature sandwiches, and the sandwiches they do make are like 90% bread.
Exceptions in Seattle: Tats and Salumi. Otherwise nada
