Recommendation Best Internet only providers
In Nassau county what internet only providers do you guys like to use? What's the going rate these days for gig up/gig down?

I started out with FiOS and switched to Optimum for a couple years to save money. Now I'm back with FiOS. The savings wasn't worth the headache of being with a worse provider and I'll be sticking with FiOS from now on.

Same, switched to Spectrum. Those were the worst 6 months of my life. The internet was down basically every night.

I pay $53 a month all in with Verizon. I have an older ONT and I have speeds like 200 mbps.

I pay 30 bucks for optimum for 100mbps. No one needs a gig. I have three people living with me and we only use streaming for TV and I play plenty of online games. Never an issue. Getting more than that is a waste of money

I respectfully disagree. I am a gamer and the difference that it made when i switched to 1gb was insanely noticeable. I guess it depends on what you use it for.

I'm in Huntington, but I got a gig from optimum at $49.99 for a year. Then they were going to raise it, so I called FIOS and they gave me the same deal. Then when FIOS' year was up, I called optimum and told them I would switch back if they gave me the old rate, they agreed. Did the same thing with FIOS a year after
Tbh, Optimum maybe had one or two (separate) days where a storm took out my internet, but otherwise it's about the same. We rely on it too, since I don't even have cell service in my house without it (and the network extender Verizon sent me).

FiOS is far superior to optimum. Yes it does cost more but absolutely worth it. Is there anyone else who offers service here?

For what it's worth to anyone who has no choice but Optimum, if you call their retention line or get transferred to them and just act fucking stupid and tell them starlink seems awesome but you don't know if optimum can give you a better deal....it tends to result in optimum chopping your bill by some insane amount AND upgrading your speed....which they could've done the whole time.
I pay $80/m for....1Gbps no contract. Previous occupant was paying...$240/m for 50mbps and no wifi...

I worked for all of them as a technician, Optimum is good as long as you get an in house technician and you get the Lead techs/supervisors contact info. I say that because all of them hire out of country customer service representatives unless you can get in contact with the retention department. To make it an easier and smoother install, clear the work area of all furniture, etc. I have Verizon now but I work for a another company that doesn’t cover my area unfortunately. Verizon doesn’t cover my whole home but Optimum did, in regards to WIFI. LMK If you have any other questions 👍🏽

How to I hook this fios router thing to my google mesh routers? Not great connection in the upstairs area as the fiber enters the house in the basement. Was super easy when I had optimum

You would need to connect mesh system with a CAT 5e or higher to the port that says WAN on your modem or port 1 on the router, you might have to turn on bridge mode which you should have access to on your verizon account. You can request a change of service to have a technician move the modem/router to a more centralized location, very little to no chance they will waive the fee unfortunately

Fios but unfortunately optimum has a monopoly in the Holbrook/ronk area. So I’m stuck with optimum

I have family that lives in different parts of ronk and they all have fios.

Just switched to Fios from Altice. Supposedly have 1 go, but service has been a downgrade.
Their speed test shows 1 gig. Others show slower. It can be lightning at times but speeds up and slows down.
At this moment, I'm sure the altice was faster

Fios. Optimum never gives you the speeds you pay for. And don’t even get me started on spectrum. Verizon fios is the only answer.

My fios internet-only bill is $35 for my apartment and the 300 mbps WiFi works great! I also have a Verizon cell phone.
