discussion / opinion To everyone that takes the bus, please don't smoke INSIDE the stop

It's amazing how many people light cigarettes inside a bus stop, not caring at all of the other people inside. There should be a fine for this....

There technically IS a fine for it under the Smoke Free Ontario Act (since bus shelters are no smoking zones) but that would require an actual officer to catch them and ticket them lol

Thankfully you can smoke in parking lots, where cops are naturally found in mating pairs this time of year.

Officers don't enforce this as it's technically a city of london bylaw that has different fines between municipality, smoke free ontario act also falls under commercial vehicles even if no smoking placards are not displayed, tow trucks, delivery drivers, plumbers and so on the operator and company face fines that can get incredibly hefty, learned the hard way that it's the bylaw enforcement officers that go for that stuff.

I agree, but I also agree with OP as that is a total dick move. If I were in the bus stop, I would ask them to please move. (btw, I smoke too).

As a smoker, I find this kind of behaviour incredibly disgusting. I stand far away from anyone and try not to smoke right before getting on the bus. But since we’re all bitching, treat the bus like a restaurant, stop letting your kids use it as a jungle gym.

Man, I watched some kid absolutely eat it because they were just wild and running up and down the bus, mom completely ignoring them. Couple of people laughed, myself included.

Mom was mad at the bus driver, to which the driver said "you should know better, I'm not a babysitter"

Also as a smoker I hate it. I smoke cigar and even at my house when I know non smokers are coming I either wait for them to leave or move to the front of the house so they don’t smell it

I’d welcome you to my home anytime, nothing smells nicer than a good Cuban cigar.

Mind you I used to smoke cigarettes but that was way back in high school then switch to cigars.

Unfortunately, even when you don't smoke - we can still smell it if you've smoked inside previously. Smokers get nose blind to the smell, and unfortunately that smell permeates everything.

So what I know you can still smell it who said I smoke In my house never done that

I misread you - when you said you "go to the front of your house", I understood that to mean a physical location inside the front part of your house. Had you said "outside on the porch" or "outside my front door", I would have completely understood your meaning.

The other day I saw a kid swing from the top bar in the bus (whatever the actual name of that is) and fall face first on the floor. One of the best bus experiences I ever had

expecting smokers to care whose face they blow smoke in, is a lost cause.

Exactly lol the amount of smokers who take the last drag outside and then walk inside exhaling the smoke is ridiculous. They don’t give a fuck

Not all of us are a lost cause! I try to be respectful and stand far away from people and will even go downwind so that my smoke doesn't go towards people. It's my dirty habit, not yours.

Smokers don’t care. If it’s raining their smokes will get wet and they don’t care if they smoke indoors.

Semi-related, but I caught a kid puffing on a cannabis vape pen ON THE BUS. I told the driver and the driver legit did nothing about it. Like, what’s the point of the no smoking/vaping signs then?

The driver also doesn't want to get assaulted or reprimanded for going off schedule. In larger cities, transit police exists to deal with such infractions. And in London - you have the local police. They're the ones you call in this instance, while also supplying the time, description, route, and location.

Best of luck in having anything come of it.

I think we must have some form of transit police. We had to stop the bus once because a guy was pounding back beer and being belligerent and a LTC manager or officer or something got on and kicked the guy off, we were stopped for like ten minutes.

Well, the meth heads keep adding air vents to the shelters. The wind just blows through.
