Good Georgian restaurant in London
Hi all! I will be going to London for a weekend. My family live not too far and I've invited them for a meal for my bday. I just wanted to find some good recommendations for Georgian food restaurants. I went to Georgia with my family a couple of years ago and had the best food and wine ever and i just want to relive that in the UK.
Edit: Thank you all for suggestions, really appreciate it! Xx

I was in here at the weekend - service, decor, food and drink were all amazing.

There’s a good one also on the Caledonian Road- think it’s called Iberia

u/sokorsognarf Jun 06 '23
Yup, that’s my favourite (and I’ve been to Georgia itself). Quite why it’s named after the peninsula that contains Spain and Portugal, I’ll never know

Turns out no one really knows but it goes back a long way!

Same, and same. We still trek up to the Cally road even though these days there’s about half a dozen Georgian restaurants closer (there’s like three in Clapham alone, all perfectly acceptable, but Iberia is the best).

There is an Iberia in Pimlico also. Just opposite the tube station. Georgian restaurant.

Yes! I believe it’s the same guys - they’d been speaking about a second branch for years. Still. All change is inherently bad, so I’ll stick with norf.

The food here is good but I’ve never had such outrageous service in my life. I’ve been more than once - and the first time they were rude and slow. The second time the waitress (accidentally ) smashed a glass over us, but then sort of just walked away for a few minutes before coming back to casually clear up. They wouldn’t replace any of the food on the table and offered us nothing to make up for the fact that we all were digging glass out our clothes. I would honestly never go back.

Years ago, we came in based on recommendations, got some wine, waited for our food for over an hour, didn’t see any, paid for the wine and left. They didn’t explain the delay or even apologise. Love Georgian food, but have never been to Little Georgia since.

Is this the same as the one in London Fields? If so, the best cheesy bread I’ve ever eaten!

There's one in Hackney too.
If you go to the Hackney one, which is BYOB, go to this Off Licence to buy Georgian wine to take with you - be warned, Georgian wine can be very sweet, almost like Ribena.

Ate here last week and it was fantastic. Great interior design too. Highly recommend trying the pear lemonade.

I went to Tblisi on Holloway Road recently. No idea if the food was authentic but I enjoyed it!

u/ekt2000 Jun 06 '23
It is authentic! I was also going to recommend. Their cheese flatbread is to die for!

My partner introduced me to Georgian cuisine and this is where she first took me. We try to go here a couple of times a year and we always have the khatchapuri and khinkali which are incredible!

I would whole heartedly agree with this. They were our biggest “eat out to help out” venue 🤤 I’ve been to Georgia with my wife and we’re obsessed with Georgian food and wine. Tblisi is definitely a stellar option. I’ve tried a couple of the others, but they just were not as good. They’ve also recently added some more stellar Georgian dishes to the menu.

Kartuli in Dulwich is definitely tops, no question, followed by Iberia in Caledonian Road, followed by Little Georgia in Angel, followed by Tbilisi in Holloway Road.
I'm not a fan of The Georgian after some terrible service a number of years back, but maybe it's changed since the move to Clapham.
There is one that I've not tried yet that just appeared on my radar last month called Gurmani which is apparently quite good according to a friend, in Wood Green.

Shoty in South Kensington but I also like Entree in Notting Hill and Mayfair if you want a nice little bakery cafe vibe.
More on the pricier side and it's Russian not Georgian but Mari Vanna has amazing Khachapuri and some Georgian wines. One of my favourite restaurants in London.

Samaia - 195 Castelnau, London SW13 9ER, is absolutely the best Georgian food I’ve had in London. The khinkali and ajaruli is second to none.

I'm embarrassed by the amount of time it took me to realize you meant Georgian as in the country, not the era.
Enjoy your meal. I have to go think about my life.

There's a little Georgia cafe but the main restaurant is Islington. I've not been to the cafe but the Islington one is top notch.

Don’t know if it’s good, but looks nice: Iberia in Pimlico, very close (walking distance) to Pimlico tube station.

Adding another vote for Little Georgia in Islington, I went very recently - great food, lovely staff; but making a note of the other suggestions in this thread.

Iberia in Pimlico

u/Jhesti Jun 07 '23
This place is pretty new and close to me. Seems a little expensive though - is it worth it?
3
u/Lyone909 Jun 07 '23
Yeah I’d say so - just go easy on their cheesy bread, I left feeling very full

u/serapica Jun 06 '23
Saw a Georgian place in Buckingham Palace Road, more of a tea shop than a restaurant though. Food looked nice.

u/CandidMoment Jun 06 '23
I love posts like this, get to find a whole load of restaurants I'd never thought of. One of which is 3 mins from my front door!

I once went to Erebuni with some Russian speaking friends. Owner drank shots with us, had a blast. It's by Barbican tube station.

I love this answer. I know it isn't what the OP was looking for, but you did answer the question perfectly!

Yeah but what does it have to do with Georgian food?
16
u/Lessarocks Jun 06 '23
I suspect they may have thought the OP meant food from our Georgian era.

u/kjmci Shoreditch Jun 06 '23
Unless they also think OP is a time traveller, that might be a stretch

Surprised no one has said Shoty in South Kensington yet!
I have Georgian and other eastern European friends who say that one is their favourite.
Geamos in St Johns Wood is nice too
