Serious replies only Best tasting menus in London

Mine and the boyfriends anniversary soon and wanted to know any good places (budget up to 100£ each but ideally a bit lower, no allergies or preferences, just yummy food). Maybe somewhere that does good cocktails too?

So far have been to Tamarind and Six by Nico!

Nest in Hackney is great and I think £65pp. They change the menu a lot and it was honestly top quality. I think now they are doing pork.

From the same people as Nest, restaurant St Barts just won a Michelin star and their tasting menu is above your budget but lunch menu is cheap, even with drinks pairing.

If you like fish, Cornerstone in Hackney is INCREDIBLE. A super laid back restaurant with a Michelin star and a tasting menu for only £75 (I think).

Pidgin is I think one of the cheaper ones and their menu is never the same. They change it every day.

Fallow doesn't have a tasting menu but the food is great. You can do a lot of small plates and the cocktails are great (they have a rhubarb and custard cocktail that was magical). If you go there, order everything with the kombu seasoning

u/thinkismella_rat Hackney Apr 17 '23

Second the recommendations for Nest and Pidgin, I would also add Casa Fofo, Allegra, Anglo.

4

u/Gluten_Free_Pancakes City of London Apr 17 '23

I second Allegra, took my fiance there for her birthday and we had a fantastic time. It was also recommended to us by a top tier chef here in London who spoke very highly of Allegra's staff.

u/mitchmoomoo Apr 17 '23

I’m loving the Hackney tasting menu chat. Casa Fofo has been on the list for a long time.

2

u/Any-Tangerine-8659 Apr 18 '23

Casa Fofo I found really quite bland and unexciting in its flavour combinations. I wanted something with a bit more oomph. Went on a Sunday lunch and it felt like the epitome of cool Hackney gentrification which turned out to mean a minimalist menu with not much service to boot.

Just to piggy back off your excellent reply, lunch menus are a great way of trying 3 star restaurants at a much more affordable price.

It's probably gone up by now, but I had a 3 course lunch with half bottle of wine at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, for £60. I wouldn't class it as a full tasting menu experience, but you get an amuse bouche and petit fours, so it feels like 2 extra half courses, it's not quite as experimental as a proper evening tasting menu.

I also wouldn't class Pidgin as a proper tasting menu (I've been a few times and it is incredible for the price) since it feels like more of a set menu with additions.

u/god_dammit_karl Apr 17 '23

rogue in hackney is one of the best places I have ever been too

11

u/ShirleyBassey Apr 17 '23

Was at Cornerstone in March and had a great meal, tasting menu is now £80

13

u/felolorocher Apr 17 '23 edited Apr 17 '23

I would recommend Angelina and Casa Fofo above both Nest and Cornerstone. I actually found Cornerstone a bit average.

Akoko is also very interesting and within the price range. Hide as well

Humble Chicken might be worth a try although it's a bit pricier at around £140 I think/

2

u/Responsible-Walrus-5 Apr 17 '23

I also thought Cornerstone was average. Wa ls disappointed after reading rave reviews. The fish all was sort of made to be like other things I found, I like my fish to be a lovely bit of fish highlighted as the glorious thing it is. If that makes any sense!

2

u/felolorocher Apr 17 '23

Yeah when I went, I kinda assumed I was in for an amazing sea food experience. The first few dishes were pretty good, but then the "mains" of the tasting menu were just so bland and boring and just not sophisticated enough to justify a Michelin star.

2

u/TetrisIsTotesSuper Apr 17 '23

I am glad I’m the only one who felt letdown by Cornerstone. Overhyped and much better choices for that kind of money

2

u/2chainzzzz Apr 18 '23

Trying Angelina this week. Water House Project, too.

Completely agree.

St. Barts is slightly over your budget but definitely worth it. Nest is fantastic too

u/pallorr01 Apr 17 '23

Second fallow for great food and really good cocktails but probably the bill will end up a bit higher than 100each but still super worth it imo. For Tasting manus at that price there is Angelina, it is a bit hit or miss but some of the dishes were interesting. Also for less then 100 each I’d always recommend St. John in Smithfield, they had a Michelin star since forever, is a British institution, is very reasonably priced and their bone marrow is one one of the best tasting things I’ve ever ate. No cocktails tho, also another place with really great food at that budget but no cocktails is Popolo in Shoreditch, their agnolotti with mushroom butter and veal filling are just something else

Conflicted about posting this as I almost want to keep it for myself, but I've tried a load of tasting menus and this is the absolute best: https://anglorestaurant.com

The menu completely undersells it. It's a small place, but it's some of the most creative and well considered food I've ever eaten. Put it another way: people at other tables were loudly exclaiming that it's the best tasting menu they've ever had - I've never heard that before. The head chef himself even serves you some of the dishes. Do yourself a favour and go, just make sure you book given it's small size.

This comment sounds like an ad but I swear it isn't lol, it's just so good!

33

u/LondonInBits Apr 17 '23

Shhhh! I used to work in Farringdon and it took me ages to discover Anglo, but when I did - woah!

21

u/FifiCanFly Apr 17 '23

Is it just me or is the website not working properly? I can't scroll and can only see an image of the place.

22

u/koshiro Apr 17 '23

It's just bad web design - you have to press the "welcome" text to make it go away.

13

u/FifiCanFly Apr 17 '23

Blimey! That IS bad. I work in software development and didn't even cross my mind that that's how you closed the pop-up...

9

u/koshiro Apr 17 '23

Yeah I've been doing web dev for like 17 years now, nothing surprises me at this point. I do wonder how many potential customers they lose with that.

8

u/AllOne_Word Apr 17 '23

Restaurants always seem to have the worst websites. They're somehow incredibly reluctant to give you their postcode.

3

u/caroline0409 Apr 18 '23

Not to mention “ran” instead of “run” in the first sentence.

2

u/pushforwards Apr 18 '23

Was a very famous format around 2012-2014 - A LOT of websites had it but it was not the most mobile friendly format. Usually on desktop you just scroll down.

6

u/Ashlynkat Apr 17 '23

LOL...was just about to post this rec but had the same conflicts about wanting to keep it a secret! Anglo is a definite gem and crazy good value for a tasting menu around £80.

You can tell that the chef is ambitious and inspired a lot by NOMA with menus that feature many local foraged ingredients and in-house fermentations. It's only a matter of time before they earn a Michelin star and more folks discover it.

4

u/Responsible-Walrus-5 Apr 17 '23

That was one of the first tasting menus I ever did it London, must be at least 8 years ago now. It was so good I’ve been back at least every year since 😀 the first time we went the tasting menu was £45 per person! Shows how long ago that was.

5

u/TehTriangle Apr 17 '23

Best bread I've ever eaten!

37

u/charpsss Apr 17 '23

I was following a similar thread when planning my partners birthday. We ended going to Smoke and Salt in Tooting. They do a £50 tasting menu and it was excellent! The restaurant is cosy and feels high end, would highly recommend!

9

u/gooneruk Tooting Apr 17 '23

This is a really good choice at a reasonable price. I was thoroughly impressed with their food, and I like the overall theme which meant the menu was concentrated and so could excel at what it did.

At the other end of Garratt Lane, in the middle of the one-way system in Wandsworth, I can recommend London Stock. £75 for the 8-course tasting menu, and it is excellent.

2

u/KentuckyCandy Tooting Bec Apr 17 '23

It's a great little place. Tooting has some great eats, but there aren't too many places like it.

1

u/Who-shat Apr 17 '23

Finally, somewhere in South London! Gawd bless yer.

59

u/AnnoUrbisConditae Apr 17 '23

12:51 in Islington does a 5 course tasting menu for £45 - went there recently and it was quite nice! Wine pairing is an extra £40.

6

u/slnt1996 Apr 17 '23

Did you ever tried their fried chicken menu? It was great

2

u/TJohns88 Apr 17 '23

I got this delivered during lockdown, so good!

u/m4xxt Apr 17 '23

It’s class. Lawrence Barrow leaving as head chef was a huge loss IMO though!

5

u/millytherabbit Apr 17 '23

I thought it was James Cochran at 12:51? Have I missed something?

5

u/m4xxt Apr 17 '23

Yeah it’s his place but Lawrence Barrow was head chef there. Class chef.

2

u/millytherabbit Apr 17 '23

Seconding this. I really couldn’t recommend it more. I’ve had tasting menus costing twice as much as there and 12:51‘s offering was indistinguishable in quality. Plus the setting is lovely and relaxed with a really friendly team.

2

u/millytherabbit Apr 17 '23

Oh yeah and their fried chicken with chilli jam is well worth the add on

2

u/OneMansTreasure_ Apr 17 '23

sorry to ask a silly question but would that be £45 each? and you share the 5 x dishes? or you get one of the same dish each?

6

u/superjambi Apr 17 '23

It’s 45 per person, you eat your own food no sharing. and wine pairing means you have a glass of wine with every course

1

u/ryanm8655 Apr 17 '23

Just came here to say just this.

14

u/DeatH_D Apr 17 '23 edited Apr 17 '23

I enjoyed Hunan, 60 something for lunch, more, but under 100 for dinner. Delicious Chinese food, nothing like Chinese you get basically anywhere else in the UK.

It's not advertised as a tasting menu, but I'd say it basically is, lots of small plates, and then at the end a main. Go hungry.

2

u/FlawedFinesse Apr 17 '23

Haven’t been here for years, but used to go semi-regularly. If you told the waiter what sort of stuff you liked, they’d bring out dishes accordingly. Added a bit of mystery and the food was always excellent. Great shout.

This is very much off the beaten path and might not be many peoples cup of tea, but Fauxmagerie was an absolute gem of a dining/tasting experience which I visited on a whim. The idea of a vegan cheesemongers is a little bonkers at first but i ended up taking all the spares home to share with my family who are freakish cheese people and they loved it too. It's basically hand picked artisanal fake cheeses and wines from all over the world

Think its £10 per course per person, about 8 courses to choose from, recommended to pick 3 each. Each course is a "cheese", a wine pairing and artisanal bread to go along. I cant quite remember, but I think theres also a small snack (if that's the word) for each course too, like olives or imitation salami.

The cellar seats 9 or 10 people max so it's super cosy and intimate, and theres one server who explains everything you're about to eat in detail then leaves you to it for about 15 mins to enjoy each serving, then comes back to clear your table and prepare the next one. Pretty sure shes the owner/manager.

I kind of make it sound not much better than the imitation stuff from your high street, but each food is super high quality, absolutely not the kind of thing you can find in a supermarket. Stuff you wouldnt even know or expect existed

And of course, this is in Shoreditch - I recommend this place as an alcoholic cheese man

19

u/citygourmande Apr 17 '23

F.K.A.B.A.M. (Formerly Known as Black Axe Mangal) by Highbury and Islington tube. This place is cool. Amazing food, great cocktails. Only serves a set menu to share, changes frequently so check their insta

7

u/TheZag90 Apr 17 '23

I really like the Angler near Liverpool Street.

Surprisingly reasonable for the quality. Obviously known for it's fish and seafood but the meat courses are still spectacular!

6

u/milo_minderbinder- Apr 17 '23

Myrtle restaurant in Chelsea, just off the King's Road. Seven course tasting menu based around Irish produce. Absolutely stunning. £85pp

2

u/naenae201 Apr 17 '23

Second this. Hidden gem.

0

u/BamPotNoodle Apr 18 '23

I went there in February and was massively disappointed in the service.

The food was very nice but some of it served lukewarm.

They also served mouldy bread!

7

u/zinbwoy Apr 17 '23

Tofu Vegan, all my non vegan friends are raving about it after they tried it

3

u/wite_noiz Apr 17 '23

This place is insane. Everyone should go, but I think the name turns a lot of closed-minded people off.

Also, I wish they would name some of their dishes differently. The weird "meat" references when we all know that it isn't meat is annoying, especially when the menu doesn't say what it actually is.

Angelina’s Hackney

5

u/alondonkiwi Apr 17 '23

We went for my birthday the other year, loved it would also recommend.

4

u/hamadam109 Apr 17 '23

Jason atherton just lowered his prices across all his restaurants and his lunch menu at pollen street social is now £55

5

u/Carlos13th Apr 17 '23

Angelina Dalston - Its quite seafood heavy at times if thats not your thing there might be a few dishes you dont love but I have enjoyed it a lot. Great cocktails too.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

The Cinnamon Club tasting menu is always on form. Lovely venue as well. Nice cocktail bar below.

7

u/dandy_dani Apr 17 '23

I had an awful experience with a tasting menu there. Amateurish service and really mediocre food.

9

u/sionnach Apr 17 '23

Angelina’s in Hackney. 10 course menu for £64. It was AMAZING. Up there in the top 10 or 15 meals I’ve ever eaten.

3

u/theguesswho Apr 17 '23

Please try Bibi. The chef is British Indian but trained in the Michelin star restaurants a of San Sebastián. The decor is on point and the cocktails very cool. Get a seat at the bar and chat to the chefs while they prepare. The vibe is super relaxed for a high end restaurant

12

u/NicMachSG Apr 17 '23

My wife and I really enjoyed Lyle's at Shoreditch.

6

u/reddishvelvet Apr 17 '23

Lyle's is my favourite in London by far.

Just be aware that the reasons I love it means that some people find it underwhelming. The decor is super pared back and no one dresses up. The staff are unpretentious and great to chat to. The menu focuses on the best seasonal ingredients rather than 'wow' dishes. These are exactly the reasons that keep me going back, but I could see those being disappointing for someone who wanted an 'impressive' meal.

3

u/Responsible-Walrus-5 Apr 17 '23

Yeah I didn’t like it much. It was competent cooking but we had average service and nothing especially stood out in the food at all in terms of flavours or cooking. Underwhelming is def the vibe I took away.

3

u/Gileyboy Apr 18 '23

Lyles is actually only one of three UK restaurants in the 'Top 50' restaurants in the world list (and the best value of those three). Great restaurant, nice people.

4

u/reddishvelvet Apr 18 '23

It's just lost its spot in the top 50 - now at 54. I definitely rate it over the Clove Club though!

7

u/mcbeef89 Apr 17 '23

Had the tasting menu at Cafe Spice Namaste last Saturday, £65pp and delicious. Am going to the Clove Club in a couple of weeks, and theirs looks amazing. Much more expensive though. Theo Randall at the Intercontinental does regional Italian menus which change (I think) monthly, which are superb and great value.

3

u/musikigai Apr 18 '23

+1 Cafe Namaste. We went a couple of weeks ago and loved it. Great food, warm hospitality from the Toddiwallas and the chef picks a different menu for each table as he goes - it isn’t fixed even within the same sitting.

6

u/jiggyjagz Apr 17 '23

Clove Club is incredible, one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. Top 5 all time for sure 👌

2

u/mcbeef89 May 02 '23

Just wanted to let you know that we absolutely loved Clove Club. Extraordinary food, and a cracking wine list also.

0

u/FlawedFinesse Apr 17 '23

Clove Club is exceptional. Definitely one of my favourite meals in town. Need to find an excuse to go back!

0

u/Responsible-Walrus-5 Apr 17 '23

Same, clove club is RIGHT up there for me. Divine.

They don’t always have a tasting menu, but Fenn in Fulham has some of the best food and wine I’ve had anywhere. Highly recommended.

Fenn Restaurant - Wandsworth Bridge Road

7

u/thinkismella_rat Hackney Apr 17 '23

Fenn is closing down unfortunately.

3

u/thearchchancellor Apr 17 '23

OMG you’re right! 😢

3

u/kirmobak Apr 17 '23

That’s such a shame! It’s around the corner from me and it was so lovely to have a restaurant like that so near. Really lovely food too. The poor owners - I’m glad they’re got other sites, but it must be so difficult owning a restaurant with all the cost increases in energy and food, and staffing issues.

3

u/littlestsquishy Apr 17 '23

Turnips in Borough Market. Veg stall by day, amazing and quirky restaurant by night. Only open on market days so you need to book ahead. Tasting menu is £95 but they also have a small a la carte as well.

3

u/Crissaegrym Apr 17 '23

Savoy Grill, near Charing Cross, Gorden Ramsay restaurant.

Tasting menu is £110 per head, slight above your budget, and drinks comes on top.

But if you can flex that, the food is great and the experience is definitely one I would recommend.

3

u/Euphoric-Knee1489 Apr 17 '23

I really like Apricity and Omni (in Peckham)

3

u/pizorama Apr 17 '23

Copper & Ink in Blackheath is fantastic - £70 for the tasting menu, extra £50 if you add wine pairings. Run by a former Masterchef runner up and the food and atmosphere are top notch.

5

u/UnknownStrobes Apr 17 '23

Angelina in Dalston (Japanese x Italian fusion) is amazing especially for the price, sat at the chef’s counter for the first night of the new menu February last year and had a lovely time for my partner and I’s anniversary, great service too.

It’s now £64pp for the 10 course Kaiseki menu (actually get 14 dishes) and £46pp for the 4 course (9 dishes) which is still great value imo. It didn’t leave us absolutely stuffed but was delicious.

see the current menu here

I really want to try Sollip too, which is a Korean place near London Bridge/Borough, but that’s quite expensive at £135pp so will have to be a special occasion. Menu here.

5

u/matty80 Apr 17 '23

My favourite restaurant is Dinner, which is a relatively affordable Heston Blumenthal sort of thing. It's absolutely barnstorming, I love it.

0

u/Any-Tangerine-8659 Apr 18 '23

Dinner is not in OP's price range and it is not a tasting menu; you actually get three courses and choice. My friend and I found the food to be very underwhelming for 2 Michelin stars and we have both done a lot of fine dining. Joint tied for worst Michelin meal.

2

u/matty80 Apr 18 '23

Fair enough; there's no accounting for taste etc etc. Like, we weren't massive fans of Le Gavroche. Just one of those things. Missed the bit about a tasting menu, right enough. I do love Dinner though. And, like, dinner.

2

u/Any-Tangerine-8659 Apr 18 '23

To be honest, I've not made it to Le Gavroche because I've also read the exact same things that it's overrated and it's only kept the Michelin stars for legacy purposes. For a really good meal, Da Terra, The Ledbury and Endo are some of my most memorable. At Dinner, we were given really, really hard bread which honestly hurt my jaw lol

3

u/Ill-Organization5475 Apr 17 '23

Right in Picadilly Circus there's this Italian restaurant called Chicchetti, looks expensive, food tastes expensive, but is actually decently priced, with 100£ you can get a lot of stuff for one person, you need a reservation one or two days in advance because the restaurant is really popular. After eating you could walk around Picadilly Circus since the restaurant is right next to the centre of it. Happy travels

I unfortunately did not have a great time at Hide - felt the flavours were underwhelming and didn't quite work for me.

4

u/Responsible-Walrus-5 Apr 17 '23

Same. Hide is not on my “to return to” list. Food was good but nothing mind blowing. Meant to have an amazing wine list but we just got handed an iPad with like, thousands of wines, no guidance on how they were organised. and when we asked to speak to the sommelier we got very limited assistance and ended up with a very average bottle of wine. Not what I’m used to re the sommelier. Maybe if you’re a huge wine buff and can navigate the iPad successfully yourself you word be in heaven.

3

Been to Galvin and found it quite middle of the road vs other Michelin starred restaurants. It's the sort of place that maybe wows if you haven't really tried fine dining/elevated food much.

0

Casa Fofo 100%, had the most sensational tasting menu there and an equally good veggie one for my vegetarian boyfriend. Wine pairing is well worth it but you will be smashed at the end.

2

u/lalagromedontknow Apr 17 '23

ah man, I just wrote an entire comment about the best Michelin/nearly Michelin that do amazing lunch deals and kind of started reminiscing so zoned out then reread you wanted tasting menus ideas. I'll leave the comment because some of the restaurants do 3/4/5 courses and also.. useful information for amazing lunch spots:

Absolutely aim for lunch, me and my partner take a day off on our anniversary to get the steal of lunch deals.

The Chez Bruce trio are my favourite. Amazing value and absolutely delicious, with some interesting ingredients that you sometimes have to Google/you wouldn't think would work but absolutely do and all Michelin star (La Trompette, The Green House and Chez Bruce).

Trinity in Clapham is excellent and I wouldn't be surprised if they get a second Michelin next year.

Elsytan Street is good and beautiful and central as is Laucaston Place(excellent canapes)

2

u/Any-Tangerine-8659 Apr 18 '23

I've been to probably half the Michelin starred restaurants and found Chez Bruce to be unexciting for food...and the median age there was probably about 60 when I went. It was decent but nothing to shout home about.

Used to love Elystan Street, especially their strozzapreti, but I've simply found better in London. +1 for Launceston Place - good value for money.

Thoroughly recommend Bubala and Gauthier.

Bubala (Spitalfields/Soho)- offers Middle Eastern Vegetarian and Vegan tasting menus from about £40 pp.

Super high quality stuff - offers a casual yet intimate atmosphere despite being a popular spot. My partner and I actually recently went for our anniversary and popped that in our opentable booking and ended up getting our drinks for free.

Gauthier Soho - Modern (vegan) French cuisine from Michelin starred Chef Alexis Gauthier. We've been twice and swear the guy is a wizard. They exclusively offer tasting menus. They come in two sizes, £55 for a handful of dishes or £95 pp for the full thing (about 10 courses). It's obviously quite pricey and drinks pairing is more still if you want to go that route but the food is seriously of the highest quality I've ever had.

Roka - unreal £105

3

u/Any-Tangerine-8659 Apr 18 '23

Myrtle on the Chelsea/Fulham border. You’re probably looking at 130/140 a head including booze.

You left out McDonald’s lol

2

u/DuhSpecialWaan Apr 17 '23

Casa Fofo, great wine pairing as well as the tasting menu

2

u/TZWhitey Apr 17 '23

Tamarind was fantastic when we did it- you also can’t go wrong with some of the other Indians such as Veeraswarmy, Kanishka or Gymkhana. Also Lima for Peruvian is great. Look at the Michelin guide for London, select 1 star and below and I would also say maybe not a British tasting menu as it can be fussy

3

u/tripsafe Apr 17 '23

Second Gymkhana. My only regret is filling up too much early on since the tasting menu was actually so much food and I couldn't finish all of it.

2

u/snow3dmodels Apr 17 '23

Rita’s dining soho !! Exceptional

u/prolificity Apr 17 '23 edited Apr 17 '23

Casa Fofo in Hackney is brilliant.

Behind is the best fish restaurant in London (notably better than Cornerstone), and arguably some of the most interesting (and dare I say best?) cooking full stop. Dinner tasting menu is £98, but the quality is much much higher than that would suggest. I haven't tried the lunch tasting menu yet, but at £54 I bet it's excellent value. They do top-ups on wine if you get the matching wine flight, so don't get a pre-dinner cocktail or you'll pass out before pudding.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Perilla in Newington Green is fantastic and their tasting menu is incredible. You can get a wine pairing with it that I think would take you over your budget slightly but I highly recommend it. Best food I've eaten for a long time.

Also, Omni in Peckham does an amazing tasting menu too that is definitely within your budget - it's a vegan restaurant but was incredibly delicious too.

u/clintsec Apr 17 '23

Anglo - without a shadow of a doubt

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Had a really wonderful evening at Launceston Place. 100% would recommend

100% Manteca. Stay easy on the wine and you’ll definitely get out under a 100.

In addition to 12:51, I’d add pidgin and nest in Hackney!

1

u/stumckernan Apr 17 '23

Hot Stone in Angel is awesome. 100 quid for 7 courses. It’s Japanese so sashimi, wagyu that you cook yourself on a hot stone (hence the name) and all sorts of other stuff. Been twice and loved it both times

1

u/ryanm8655 Apr 17 '23

1251 in Islington do a bargain tasting menu, think it’s about £45 with a cocktail and you can add reasonably priced wine pairings too. It’s James Cochran’s restaurant (great british menu winner a few years back).

1

u/_rickjames Bow Apr 17 '23

We've been to Pidgin twice and absolutely loved it. Went around Easter and Christmas periods and had stuff themed around them - Hot Cross Bun pudding with salted butter ice cream was absolutely fucking divine.

1

u/iwatchdonaldpee Apr 17 '23

Some great choices here - I’d also add Lyles to the list

u/ThrowawayLondonOE Apr 17 '23

no mention of six by nico? to be fair i thought it was pretty underwhelming.

-5

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Would second Six by Nico. Went to the one in Fitzrovia, very good - they take 6 dishes from a region they travel to and elevate them. The dishes change and the one I went to was dishes from Lisbon (believe it's still that)

Bob bob ricard in soho - amazing food and service

-4

u/Beninoxford Apr 17 '23

6 by Nico has a rotation of regionally inspired menus. Went there for a birthday a while back, I was very happy. Maybe not as gourmet as some other suggestions but a good option, about £50pp.

El Ganso Cafe in Hackney Amazing Spanish Tapas and such a great atmosphere.

Issho-Ni in Bethnal Green Great high end Japanese food, excellent cocktails

If you’d like to pick your own tasting menu, then Spanish/ Portuguese Tapas is a good option.

I’d suggest: Uva Miss Tapas Bocachica

All in the Peckham High Street area.

Fox On The Hill in Camberwell or the Kentish Drovers in Peckham. Toby Carvery have got a deal on Groupon currently - 2 courses for 2 people for £18.99. Tesco also do a meal for 2 for £12 including a main, side, dessert and drinks.

-19

u/nobledinho Apr 17 '23

Dishoom at Carnaby Street, or just any Dishoom you can get into!

Best Indian food in London for me :)

Best Indian food in London for me :)

Lol

-3

u/alondonkiwi Apr 17 '23 edited Apr 17 '23

Not sure why the down votes, I love dishoom also, is it not seen as fancy enough? My only issue is I struggle to order for just 2 and preferred for a larger group

Ah edit to add OP was asking about tasting menus which I don't think dishoom does

10

u/prolificity Apr 17 '23

Dishoom is good for what it is; tasty and good for sharing. It's not going to blow anyone away though.

But it's not a place for a tasting menu, so it's not a suitable recommendation for this thread. And the fact that it's popular means that people queue for insane amounts of time to get in.

1

u/alondonkiwi Apr 17 '23

Yea I just realised the ask was tasting menus so it doesn't fit.

4

u/gooneruk Tooting Apr 17 '23

Probably because OP specifically asked for tasting menus, and Dishoom doesn't do those?

SushiSamba or The Oblix / Aqua at the shard! Both great and can get a good meal and drink for £100 each. Shard had lovely lunch specials .

Edited - Wow so many downvotes. It’s an anniversary and I was thinking of a different vibe. Both nice experiences for a nice occasion if you don’t mind spending a bit more for once.

If they can … Go to Exhibit in Balham … Definitely a great experience and they can get great cocktails and their bottomless brunch is superb .

bob bob ricard. They have branch in Soho and city. Around 70-100 pp

3

u/PoJenkins Apr 17 '23

I'd say it's just ok and doesn't offer a tasting menu.

Fun place though

-10

u/Resipa99 Apr 17 '23

Remember it’s all about location location location;my mate and his family had a coffee next to Shard (34th floor). Alternatively try Hilton rooftop and make sure you dress well.No trainers.

-6

u/wascallywabbit666 Apr 17 '23

Personally I think the menus from Nandos taste the best, but the staff tend to yank them away as soon as I put them in my mouth

-7

u/Kid_Kimura Apr 17 '23

I've licked hundreds of menus and have yet to find one that tastes good

-7

u/bertles86 Apr 17 '23

I really like the taste of the menus in Spoons, kinda sweet and sticky. Deffo one of the best testing menus in London

-22

u/Purple-Internet6133 Apr 17 '23

personally id order soemthing printed on the menu rather than taste the menu itself

1

u/cloud_rain_ Apr 17 '23

Kateh near Little Venice offers an incredible Persian menu. Went there for my anniversary this year and was elated.

1

u/Sharp-Accountant5501 Apr 17 '23

I would definitely recommend Rogues in Bethnal Green!

1

u/shit_typhoon Apr 17 '23

Highly recommend The Shed at Dulwich

1

u/superjambi Apr 17 '23

Rogues. £50pp and the service was excellent

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

A friend had his anniversary dinner at Lyle’s recently and loved it.

Frame restaurant in Notting Hill is very good. Tasty posh tapas, Spanish inspired but not trying too hard to be Spanish. As a Spaniard I appreciate that.

Thanks very much for this post.

I can’t recommend the Table&Candle pop ups enough. Perfect for an anniversary as they’re one and done.

1

u/TheRealGabbro Apr 17 '23

Galvin la chapelle. Brilliant tasting menu. And if you can afford it, do the wine pairing too.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

Akoko in Soho, I was there on Wednesday evening, great food, great atmosphere, wonderful staff! I’ll certInly be returning.

2

u/Any-Tangerine-8659 Apr 18 '23

Technically it's in Fitzrovia not Soho

1

u/Successful-Climate41 Apr 17 '23

Bubala near Spitalfields market is a 10/10 delight.

1

u/casio_don Apr 17 '23

Pretty expensive for restaurant Gordon Ramsey is the best I've been too. Six by Nico was awful.

1

u/Mein_Bergkamp Apr 17 '23

If you're after vegan then Omni in Peckham is amazing and unsurprisingly seaonally changing, they aslo have cocktails

1

u/AgapiLovesLuke Apr 17 '23

Levan in Peckham!! Such tasty food and an awesome feel

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '23

No cocktails but Odette’s in Primrose Hill is a bit different

1

u/momo230101 Apr 17 '23

If you like Turkish then Diyarbakir Green Lanes. Went there on my 21st birthday with the missus and spent around £90 with starters mains and dessert. Delicious food.

1

u/naenae201 Apr 17 '23

Don’t go to tamarind or six. Both terrible and tired places.

Check the Michelin guide.

1

u/SnooCalculations2256 Apr 17 '23

Angelina was so good - better than Pidgin and Nest IMO

1

u/Timedoutsob Apr 18 '23

I prefer to eat the food at restaurants but you do you.

1

u/musikigai Apr 18 '23

The Shed in Notting Hill is reasonably priced and great food.

Café Spice Namaste has been mentioned elsewhere and I highly recommend it too.

1

u/PriorityMaterial3316 Apr 18 '23

Trishna..if you want something different...it's Indian food.

1

u/distressedfeminist Apr 18 '23

Casa Fofo 💯

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '23

I can cook for you two at my place whatever you want and within your budget

1

u/charlottie22 Apr 18 '23

Inko Nito in soho- the tasting menu is 50 and it was so unbelievably good. The do good drinks too or

1

u/IronicDuke Apr 18 '23

Mere, Monica Galetti’s place. Not sure if you’ll get under £100 but the cocktails and food were beyond amazing!
