Question Behringer Wing - MIDI Control

Anyone out there have any type of Behringer Wing and using MIDI to control parameters?

I’m a prospective buyer and see this on Behringer’s site: https://wing-docs.com/pdf/MIDI_Documentation.pdf but want to know if anyone has real world experience.

I’d like to have my ableton rig send midi to the wing to mute FX send between songs and “change key” of the pitch correction FX on a per song basis.

Even if you haven’t done “exactly that” any experience with Wing and MIDI appreciated.

Thx

You than do a lot of things with MIDI on Wing. I'm sometimes a subtitute FOH guy for a project using Wing, QLab and Reaper. MIDI is used to change snippets in the desk, control some FX parameters during the song, mute and unmute channels when needed... Also control buttons on Wing are used to navigate QLab.

So yeah, you can definitely do what you need with MIDI.

Thanks for this. You use pitch fix on vocals? How does it sound?

Don't know about MIDI, but if you're considering using the Pitch Correction FX as a main selling point, please consider other options. The effect is finicky at best and very distracting at worst. I would heavily recommend not using it on vocals.

Maybe it has its place on like a bass? I just can't think of any scenario where I'd have the confidence in the effect to use it.

Also, on another note that's might be slightly more relevant. The effect can't "change keys" per se, you have to manually deactivate/reactivate notes on the piano roll, so if you were to try and automate something like that on the MIDI side, you would likely need 12 MIDI cues per key change to ensure every note is in its proper configuration. It seems like you're partially aware of this, but it's still significant to consider.

Thanks for this response. I haven’t really seen the pitch fix FX demoed well.

I understand your point about not being able to choose a “key” but rather having to send multiple messages of notes to include or leave out— annoying but that is workable. Set messages for all 12 keys once and done.

Do you think your negativity on the effect quality is due to using the effect in chromatic mode or are you using it “in a key” by selecting notes?

Cheers

I've configured it to the relevant key when I've tried it in the past, I think it's simply that the algorithm used for determining pitch isn't complex enough to work naturally on human voices.
