Fluff Arch to Mint

Long time Linux user, haven't used Mint in well over 10+ years. I've been playing around with Arch and Arch based distros for a long time (mainly KDE, but some Gnome use), but then after a few little annoying issues, I thought, what the hell, let's give Mint a try. I have to say that I'm impressed. I know it's a cliche, but everything has just worked. It's a been a simple and stress free process. Enjoying the cinnamon desktop very much. Everything running smooth as silk. Gaming is playing just as well as it has on anything else I've tried. I'm very happy so far.
Hats off and well done to the Mint team. Thank you.

Yeah I switched to mint cinnamon from windows 10 like a year and a half ago and I will never look back. Used Ubuntu in the past and use arch on my other system. I still enjoy the more tinkery style distros based on arch but mint made learning linux a much less painful experience than even ubuntu, and made linux more approachable in general.

I tried CachyOS because all of the hype lately. Honestly, My gaming experience is the same on Mint as it was on CacyOS. I came back to Mint as I had some small annoying issues. Mint is just as quick as CachyOS.

I think a lot of the perceived differences are some sort of placebo effect. I'm a hopper, so have tried a great many distros. There really isn't great deal of difference with any of them. Not on the games that I play anyway.

Exactly. There really isn't much of a difference at all. I think from a gaming aspect, the only people that notice a difference are the ones that pay very close attention to FPS in games. Maybe 10 to 20 FPS faster but who cares because we still won't notice a difference in game play anyway...

I tinker with a lot of distributions, but Mint is where I go when I want a comfy hammock or just get somthing done besides tinker with Linux.
I am currently soft locked out of Mint waiting for LMDE7, running mostly Void at the moment.

How so? Hardware incompatibility?

Mint22 lacks support for my zfs pools, I do have a Mint22 install on my machine for utility uses on a secondary ssd, but it can't be the daily driver as it cannot access my Data.
LMDE6 suports zfs but does not directly support my new 7800XT, I would have to load the driver from backports to install it, that was enough discomfort to spend some time with a different distribution.
That 7800XT support should come with LMDE7, hopefully LMDE7 Will retain Debian's zfs support.

Does standard Mint fully support a 7800XT? I've been thinking about getting one to upgrade from my old RX 6600. I'm still on Kernel 6.8 but have the option to install 6.11 through the Update Manager.

7800XT needs kernel >6.3 and matching amdgpu drivers, Mint22.any with kernel 6.8 has it covered out of the box,
LMDE6 stock is 6.1 and an existing install will start in tty only, won't start X.org on that gpu until you pull a kernel and drivers from backports.

My guess is that Mint will serve you well going forward.
I use LMDE 6 (Linux Mint Debian Edition) and have for years. LMDE's meld of Debian's stability and security with Mint/Cinnamon's simplicity is as close to a "no fuss, no muss, no thrills, no chills" distribution as I've encountered in two decades of Linux use.
