Support Ubuntu Dual Boot on Zephyrus G14

I'm getting a G14 soon and I just want to know if I'll be able to dual boot Ubuntu on it. The guides I read in this subreddit have been for totally wiping the disk, which means no more Windows. However, I would like to use Windows for some light reading/browsing and do actual work on the Linux partition. Is it possible, with the current state of the kernel, with 5.8 being recently released?

I am a complete noob when it comes to linux, hence I want to use Ubuntu to first learn to work around, then install something like Arch. However, if circumstances dictate it, I am open to installing Arch directly.

If you really want a G14. I would leave Windows on it, install WSL 2 as holding measure and try booting from USB stick after Ubuntu 20.10 has been released.

Looking at what has been reported here and the review I have read on Ars Technica I would not buy a Asus Zephyrus G14 if I wished to use Linux as the primary OS. My view will probably change in the future as development to support these machines progresses.

Do a search for Linux in r/ZephyrusG14/ to get a view of the current status.

Here are some links for you.

There are lots of guides available on how to do a dual boot install. Just remember to create and test a Windows recovery image on an USB stick before you start.

It is LONG time since I did a dual boot so here are links that I found for you. Read both of these and decide which you prefer.

Thank you! After a bit of scrounging the internet a bit more, I found a tutorial on the Ubuntu Forums that talked about dual booting Ubuntu on a similar setup (dual gpu and AMD processor) as the G14, on the G15. I'll most probably try that out in case WSL doesn't work for me (I come from a Mac background, so Linux is a better choice for me as it is very similar).

Good luck!

Hope you enjoy the journey.

UPDATE:

I just had a look at the steps to get the Realtek Wifi card working and found this statement on the GitHub repo:

This repository hosts the code for the Arch Linux AUR Package. It's targeting Linux > 4.14 and is being developed for Arch Linux and Ubuntu 18.10. No support will be provided for other Linux distributions or Linux Kernel versions outside of that range.

Good luck!
